February 28 – – Jeff Gordon will start 28th in Sunday’s 427-mile race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. While the qualifying effort was below Gordon’s standards thus far in 2009, he remains optimistic heading into the third race of the season. “At Daytona, even though we had the tire problem, I feel like we were one of the best cars out there,” Gordon said. “We won the 150 and we went to California and ran so good there that we’re just carrying that with us right now, even though we haven’t won yet and Matt Kenseth has won the first two, we’re just feeling really good about it all.” Sunday’s race will take the green flag shortly after 4:30pm/eastern. Jimmie Johnson will start on the pole after an engine change sent polesitter Kyle Busch to the rear of the field.
