August 1 – – Jeff Gordon assumed the pole position for Sunday’s Pennsylvania 500 after Tony Stewart crashed in practice. Gordon has a pair of runner-up finishes in his last four races, he has slipped back to third in the points standings. He’ll look to regain some of the lost momentum in Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway. Gordon finished 4th at Pocono in June mainly due to fuel mileage strategy. [gordonline.com]
