Jeff Gordon posted an 10th place finish at Kentucky Speedway after struggling for the balance of the event. However, Gordon’s struggles paled in comparison to thousands of race fans who were turned away from Kentucky Speedway after waiting in traffic for more than 7 hours due to a lack of parking at the facility. The inaugural race was an epic failure for Speedway Motorsports and track owner Bruton Smith as fans with tickets in hand — some less than a mile from the track — were unable to see racing action under the lights. Regarding the on-track action, Gordon started 14th and dropped to 18th by lap 10 while complaining of a lack of grip. He held the spot until the competition caution on lap 30. Gordon’s crew changed four tires and he restarted in 25th place on lap 34. Following the green flag he continued to struggle with grip and ran in 26th on lap 50. He made steady progress and moved up to 21st on lap 70. Gordon pitted under green for tires on lap 81 and cycled through in 24th place. Race leader Kyle Busch put Gordon a lap down on lap 112. Ten laps later, Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop complete with chassis adjustments. At the halfway point, he ran one lap down in 25th place. A caution for boring racing — I mean, debris — on lap 140 slowed the field. Gordon took the wave-around to get back on the lead lap. A caution on lap 153 for oil on the track allowed Gordon to pit for fresh tires. He moved up to 5th during a pit stop sequence and received a break when Jamie McMurray blew an engine, thus bringing out the caution flag. Gordon pitted and restarted 12th with 58 laps to go. He moved to 6th with 20 to go as he closed in on the top-5. Gordon pitted for two tires with 16 laps to go. A caution for Dale Earnhardt Jr’s cut tire with 14 to go brought out the caution flag. Gordon restarted 14th with 8 laps remaining. He moved to 11th before Clint Bowyer spun with 6 laps to go. The race restarted with 2 laps to go. Gordon crossed the line in 10th place ahead of Denny Hamlin. It was Gordon’s fifth top-10 finish in the last 6 races and moved him up to 7th in the series standings.

Road ahead: The series heads to New England for a mid-summer stop in Loudon, New Hampshire. Gordon’s flat track program has shown improvement as the season has progressed. The Drive To End Hunger Chevrolet should be strong off the truck in Friday’s practice sessions, with carry-over to the rest of the weekend.

Daytona Coke Zero 400 In-Car Audio

Jeff Gordon’s night took a turn for the worse when he spun off turn four in the Coke Zero 400 with 3 laps to go. However, he avoided late race carnage and finished a respectable 6th in the event. Gordon went from 17th to 6th in the final two laps of the event. He started 4th and immediately hooked up in a tight draft with polesitter Mark Martin. The pair ran 1-2 for the first 5 laps before Trevor Bayne spun to bring out the caution flag. They dropped back to 7th and 8th on lap 17, but rallied back to 5th/6th when Carl Edwards spun on lap 25 for the second caution of the night. Following stops, Gordon dropped as low as 34th while drafting with Martin. They ran in 29th/30th on lap 48 when the caution waved for Dave Blaney’s wall contact. Following pit stops, Gordon worked his way to 20th on lap 55. At the 300-mile mark, Gordon and Martin ran 23rd/24th. Gordon and Martin came to pit road for the final round of pit stops under the green flag with 25 laps to go. With 16 laps to go, the pair ran 17th/18th on the track. With 10 laps to go, they were distantly behind the leaders running in the lower half of the top-20. As the laps wound down, Gordon moved up to 11th with Martin in tow. Gordon pulled up to 7th with 4 laps to go as the pair closed in on the lead draft. However, Gordon spun out in traffic in turn four with 3 laps to go to bring out the caution. The Pepsi Max Chevrolet sustained cosmetic damage to the right rear of the car. On the initial green-white-checkered restart, Mark Martin and Joey Logano triggered an 8-car melee on the backstretch. Gordon avoided the wreckage and moved up to 17th place for the second GWC restart. Gordon made plans to work with Jimmie Johnson who restarted 16th. However, Gordon jumped ahead and drafted with Kyle Busch through the white flag lap. Two separate wrecks on the final lap allowed Gordon to finish the event in 6th place. It was his fourth top-6 finish in the last five races.

Road ahead: The Sprint Cup series visits Kentucky Speedway for the inaugural race at the track. Gordon has tested at Kentucky over the years and will have a full day of practice on Thursday prior to Saturday night’s race.

Sonoma In-Car Audio – 2011

It was truly a tale of two races for Jeff Gordon as he struggled with handling at the outset. However, a pit call to stay on the track with 20 laps to go brought the DuPont Chevrolet to life as Gordon rallied for a runner-up finish. It was his 3rd top-5 finish in the last 4 races. Gordon struggled with drive off the corner at the outset and fell from 12th to 16th in the first 9 laps. Carl Edwards went by on lap 11 and dropped Gordon back to 17th place. One lap later, Gordon slipped to 18th as Martin Truex passed. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 19. Gordon ran in 16th place when the pit stop sequence cycled through the field. Gordon ran in 17th when the first caution waved on lap 32 for Casey Mears stalling on the racetrack. Gordon pitted for chassis adjustments during the caution flag. He restarted 23rd and avoided a wreck in turn 11 after Tony Stewart shoved Brian Vickers into the corner. Gordon moved up to 17th after working his way around the carnage. On the restart, he entered the top-15 after avoiding Martin Truex’s spin in turn 11. A debris caution on lap 48 slowed the field, which brought a round of pit stops. Gordon restarted 28th on lap 51 due to the first 14 cars staying on the track. Gordon moved up to 22nd by the time the next caution waved on lap 59 for Bobby Labonte’s crash. He made his way up to 16th on lap 64 before fading back to 23rd place. He ran as high as 5th place during a green flag pit stop sequence, but eventually pitted on lap 79. Gordon returned to the race in 26th place. He ran in 24th when Vickers intentionally wrecked Stewart as payback in turn 11. However, Gordon stayed on the track and moved up to 8th for the restart with 19 laps to go. With 18 to go he took 6th place from David Gilliland, but lost the spot to Juan Pablo Montoya who had fresher tires. Gordon moved into 5th when Montoya and Kasey Kahne got together on the track. With 12 laps to go, Gordon eased around Truex for the 4th position. He took 3rd from Brad Keselowski with 9 laps to go. Coming to the white flag, he took the runner-up spot from Carl Edwards.

Road ahead: The series heads to Daytona for the annual early July 400-miler. Gordon qualified on the outside of the front row for the Daytona 500 and was strong at Talladega in April. Gordon led the white flag lap, but finished 3rd in a 3-wide battle to the finish.

Jeff Gordon was unable to capitalize on the momentum from last weekend’s victory at Pocono as he posted a less than satisfying 17th place finish at Michigan Speedway. Gordon appeared on his way to a 7th place finish, but a four tire change on the final stop dropped him to 15th for the restart. Gordon started 31st and gained 7 spots on the track by the time the first caution waved on lap 8. He entered the top-20 during the ensuing round of pit stops by opting for two tires. However, he faded to 27th while battling handling issues before a debris caution on lap 28. Following a pit stop, Gordon moved up to 23rd by lap 40. He slid back to 27th before a round of green flag pit stops on lap 62. The adjustments seemed to help as Gordon moved to 24th on lap 75. A caution for Brad Keselowski on lap 84 brought the field to pit road. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 22nd place. He re-entered the top-20 on lap 111. A well-timed caution flag with 40 laps to go allowed Gordon to restart in the 11th position. He took advantage of the track position by moving up to 8th with 34 to go. With 16 to go, Gordon moved to 7th with a backstretch pass on Ryan Newman. A caution with 9 to go for Dale Earnhardt Jr’s wall contact bunched the field for the restart. A four tire change resulted in Gordon restarting 15th with 5 laps to go. He was unable to make any headway in the closing laps and finished 17th.

Road ahead:  Gordon tested at the Mid Ohio sports car road course in preparation for Sonoma. He felt the test at Mid Ohio would be better suited for Sonoma, rather than a test at Virginia International or Road Atlanta. It’s been 5 years since Gordon won a road course race.

Kansas In-Car Audio

Jeff Gordon knew his car was better than his 22nd place starting spot at Kansas Speedway. He turned the 2nd fastest lap in the final practice session a day earlier and fought a loose handling car during the qualifying run. When the green flag waved to start the STP 400, Gordon moved through race traffic. By lap 15, he had gained seven positions on the track. On lap 30, he entered the top-10 with a pass on Brian Vickers. After a cycle of green flag pit stops, Gordon ran in 9th place. He had moved to 8th when the first caution for debris waved on lap 67. Gordon ran as high as 6th before handling issues on a longer run allowed Kevin Harvick to pass on lap 95. Following a caution flag and pit stop, Gordon zoomed through traffic on four fresh tires. He moved up to 4th on lap 118 before Landon Cassill brought out the caution one lap later. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 3rd place. However, he lost two spots on pit road during caution flag stops on lap 160. Gordon moved to 2nd on lap 165 when Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin made slight contact in turn one. With 62 to go, Gordon pitted for tires and fuel under the green flag. He ran in 2nd until he came to pit road for fuel with 19 laps to go. Gordon finished the race in 4th due to the top-3 winning the fuel mileage game.

Road ahead: The NASCAR series visits Pocono Raceway for the first of two visits in 2011. Gordon has 7 top-10 finishes in the last 9 races on the 2.5-mile triangular track. He has 4 career wins at the track, with the most recent coming in a rain-shortened event in 2007.

Coca-Cola 600 In-car Audio

May 30, 2011 by admin 3993Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2011%2F05%2F30%2Fcoca-cola-600-in-car-audio-2%2FCoca-Cola+600+In-car+Audio2011-05-30+04%3A37%3A24adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D3993

An ill-timed caution flag at the end of the Coca-Cola 600 likely cost Jeff Gordon a top-10 finish. Gordon started 11th and moved to 8th within 5 laps. However, he dropped to 9th and stayed there for the next 30 laps. He slipped to 10th on lap 40 when Matt Kenseth passed. Gordon held 10th through a cycle of green flag pit stops just before lap 50. Two laps later he fell out of the top-10 when Dale Earnhardt Jr went by. Debris in turn 1 brought out the caution on lap 75. Gordon held the 11th position through the pit stops. At the 100-lap mark, he ran in 9th place just before a caution for Bobby Labonte’s spin. Gordon departed pit road in 19th place after a four-tire change while others opted for just two tires — although he was unable to make significant headway after the restart. He pitted under green on lap 146 while mired in 19th place. A debris caution on lap 170 brought the field to pit road with Gordon in 20th place. Another caution just before the halfway point for Jamie McMurray’s engine allowed Gordon to come into the pits to repair his radio. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 23rd place as darkness began enveloping the track. He reported a “sluggish” engine issue on the straightaways and came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 229. Four laps later the caution waved for Mike Bliss who stopped on the track. On lap 250, Gordon moved up to 19th but remained mired in race traffic. Gordon led a lap during a pit stop sequence when the caution waved. He restarted in 10th on lap 284 and moved to 9th prior to Landon Cassill’s crash on lap 294. Gordon stayed on the track during the caution and restarted in 5th place. He moved to 3rd before Ryan Newman and Mark Martin wrecked in turn 4 on lap 301. Gordon inherited the lead by staying on the track during the caution period. He came to pit road with 80 to go under caution while most of the other lead lap cars stayed on the track. He restarted 16th and moved up to 11th within 20 laps. Kyle Busch’s spin with 58 to go brought the lead lap cars to pit road. Gordon changed two tires and restarted in the lead with 53 to go. He lost the lead within two laps of the restart and dropped to 3rd with 45 to go. With 30 laps to go, Gordon dropped to 7th place. Gordon came to pit road for fuel with 6 laps to go. A caution for Jimmie Johnson’s engine trapped him one lap down. He finished the event in 20th place.

Road ahead: The series heads to Kansas Speedway for the first time in early June. The Kansas race was traditionally in October. The second race at Kansas was put on the schedule for the first time in 2011. Based on the 1.5-mile improvement the #24 team has shown of late, there is reason for optimism as the schedule turns to the summer stretch.

All Star Race In-Car Audio

May 22, 2011 by admin 3980Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2011%2F05%2F22%2Fall-star-race-in-car-audio-2%2FAll+Star+Race+In-Car+Audio2011-05-22+15%3A55%3A13adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D3980

A restart miscue preceding a pit road mistake doomed Jeff Gordon’s chances in the All Star race. Gordon started 12th and moved to 9th on lap 20 after the field became strung out around the track. The field pitted on lap 25 with Gordon holding 9th place through the sequence. He dropped back to 10th on lap 38 when Matt Kenseth passed, but re-took 9th with a pass on Mark Martin on lap 43. During the break, Gordon pitted for four tires. In the second segment, Gordon moved to 7th in the opening laps and took 6th when Kasey Kahne wrecked in turn 1. Gordon moved into the top-5 toward the end of the second segment. He restarted in 3rd to begin the third segment. On the opening lap, Gordon took 2nd from Carl Edwards. Regan Smith’s spin slowed the field and Gordon restarted on the outside of Kyle Busch. Gordon got a poor restart and dropped to 6th where he finished the segment. A break to work on the cars preceded a four-tire pit stop. Gordon came off pit road in 15th position for the restart after a slow pit stop. He ran the final 10 lap segment relatively conservatively and finished the event in 15th. Gordon hasn’t posted a top-10 finish in the All-Star race since 2006.

Road ahead: The event was held under the same conditions as the second half of the Coca-Cola 600 on May 28, thus providing an ideal window for a test session. Gordon’s team has struggled on the 1.5-mile tracks in 2011, but the performance at the All-Star event shows they may have turned the corner toward improvement.

Dover In-Car Audio

May 16, 2011 by admin 3969Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2011%2F05%2F16%2Fdover-in-car-audio-2%2FDover+In-Car+Audio2011-05-17+03%3A50%3A47adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D3969

A late two-tire change didn’t work out for the DuPont team and Jeff Gordon posted a 17th place finish at Dover Internatonal Speedway. Rain washed out qualifying and Gordon started in 21st place. He moved to 17th by the first caution on lap 20. He came to pit road for two tires during the caution flag period and restarted in 23rd. At the competition caution on lap 40, Gordon had moved up to 16th. A four-tire change put him back in 24th for the restart, but he gained two spots by lap 50. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 110 and cycled through in 19th place. He moved up to 17th on the long green flag run on lap 155. A caution flag for light rain on lap 163 allowed Gordon to make up distance as he was about 3 seconds in front of the leader. With open pit stalls in front and behind, Gordon exited pit road in 15th position. He ran 13th at the halfway point. A debris caution on lap 215 brought the field to pit road. Gordon exited in 9th place — the first time he cracked the top-10 during the race. However, he struggled on the restart and slipped to 12th within five laps. Gordon entered the top-10 on lap 281 during a green flag pit stop sequence, but ran 12th when the field cycled through on lap 292. A caution for Kasey Kahne with 70 to go brought the lead lap cars to pit road. Gordon exited in 11th place. He dropped to 12th before a caution for Juan Pablo Montoya’s spin with 40 laps to go. Pit stops followed with Gordon opting for two tires and exiting 4th. He restarted 5th after Mark Martin stayed on the track. On the restart, he fell back immediately on the inside line and ran 10th on lap 367. He fell further through the field and finished the race in 17th place. Gordon has just one top-10 finish in the last 5 races.

Road ahead: The All-Star race precedes the Coca-Cola 600 — both at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Gordon has struggled on the 1.5-mile tracks thus far in 2011 with less than stellar efforts at Las Vegas and Texas. The All-Star race provides an opportunity for an extended test session under the lights. Of course, a fourth victory in the All-Star event would be the ultimate prize heading into NASCAR’s longest race on Memorial Day weekend.

Jeff Gordon started 5th and moved to 4th within one lap due to the inside line. He moved to 3rd on lap 11 by taking the high line around Denny Hamlin. He held the position through a caution flag and pit stop sequence on lap 35. Tony Stewart took 3rd from Gordon on lap 56 as the #24 car slipped back. A caution flag brought the leaders to pit road with Gordon departing in 6th place after opting for four tires. After slipping back on the restart, Gordon narrowly missed the spinning car of Jimmie Johnson in turn 1 on lap 84. He restarted in 6th on lap 89, but battled handling issues after lap 100. He fell to 10th on lap 125 when Martin Truex went by. Gordon moved back to 7th and ran there until the halfway point of the event. Following a cycle of green flag pit stops on lap 180. Gordon ran in 8th place. He took 7th from Jamie McMurray on lap 185. A caution for Johnson’s second spin of the night brought the caution on lap 225. Gordon re-entered the top-5 by exiting pit road in 5th place. With 120 laps to go, Gordon moved up to the 3rd spot. He lost a spot on pit road under caution and restarted 4th with 83 laps to go. He brushed the wall with 50 laps to go and dropped to 5th before a round of green flag pit stops. Following the stops he dropped back and ran 8th with 20 laps to go. A caution with 10 to go brought the field to pit road. Gordon opted for 2 tires and restarted 10th. Wrecks involving Clint Bowyer and Kevin Harvick moved Gordon up to 9th for the green/white/checkered restart. He slipped back to 14th before rallying on the final lap to finish 12th.

Road ahead: The series heads to the 1-mile Dover International Speedway. Gordon hasn’t won at Dover since 2001, but tested at the track in late April as part of the Goodyear tire test.

Richmond In-Car Audio

Jeff Gordon started 6th and was hooked up from the ouset as he moved to 3rd on lap 10. However, Gordon battled a loose handling condition going into the corner and was unable to make headway toward the lead. He dropped to 4th at the 70-lap mark and fell to 5th when Kyle Busch passed. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 89 and cycled through in 9th place. At the first caution flag on lap 104, Gordon was up to 6th. Gordon’s handling improved after a pit stop and he took 3rd from Clint Bowyer on lap 120. Shortly before the halfway point, Kurt Busch’s wall contact brought a caution to slow the field. Gordon came to pit road and exited in 3rd behind Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin. On the restart he moved to 2nd behind Busch. Gordon briefly took the race lead for 3 laps before Busch re-assumed the top spot on lap 205. A caution on lap 236 brought Gordon to pit road for a track bar adjustment. He lost positions battling a loose car and returned to pit road 15 laps later when Jimmie Johnson wrecked Joey Logano. With 100 laps to go, Gordon ran in 5th before a caution for Brad Keselowski’s spin. After pitting, Gordon restarted 12th and was the victim of a wreck on the backstretch when Matt Kenseth got turned. Gordon spun across the track and slammed the inside wall on the backstretch. He climbed from the damaged car under his power and was credited with a 39th place finish — his worst finish since Michigan in August 2008.

Road ahead: The series heads to the 1.36-mile Darlington Raceway for a Saturday night affair. Gordon’s performance on intermediate tracks has been an uphill climb in 2011. However, Darlington is far from the typical intermediate track with its narrow and abrasive racing groove.

JG’s comments

WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE?

“It knocked the wind out of me. I just saw the corner through my mirror, a car come into my left rear, and around I went in a hurry. I was hoping that I spun quick enough that I wasn’t going to spin to the inside wall. And then I hit really, really hard. I’m just so proud of these guys on the DuPont Chevrolet. We had an awesome race car tonight. I don’t know if we had a car capable of winning, but we were certainly going to give it a heck of a try and we certainly had a top-five car pretty easy. So, I hate it with the pit sequence and the pit strategy that was going on there that we lost all that track position. With 100 (laps) to go and everyone was just getting so impatient; you had to dive in there three-wide. I don’t know what happened behind me but somebody shot up and got my left rear and around we went. I must have hit the corner of that inside wall. Again, I wish they had a Safer barrier there. I seem to be able to find the ones without the Safer barrier. But what a shame, man.”

YOU SAID EVERYONE WAS LOSING THEIR PATIENCE OUT THERE INCLUDING YOU, IS THERE A LOT OF BEATING AND BANGING GOING ON OUT THERE?

“Well, there is 100 to go. I think it is a little early, but any time you have cars that stay out, cars that take two, cars that take four, they are going to be diving in there taking it three wide. I was having to do it to. I’m sure not blaming anybody else. Just kind of the circumstances when we’re like that. I just think that we got the bad end of it.”

YOU ALWAYS SEEM TO FIND THE SPOT WHERE THERE IS NO SAFER BARRIER

“I know. I don’t know what it is. I’m not trying to teach anybody anything. I really am not. I think it is pretty well known we need safer barriers everywhere. You think it is a short track and everything but man, I hit a ton and hit right on the corner where you don’t want to hit. It definitely got my attention. That is for sure. It rang my bell.”
