Pocono 500 In Car Audio

June 8 – – With Jeff Gordon struggling with handling issues during the second half of the Pocono 500, crew chief Steve Letarte elected to play the fuel strategy game. As it turned out, it nearly resulted in a victory.

Gordon started on the outside of the front row and rocketed to the lead before the field entered the first turn. The caution waved on lap 2 after Denny Hamlin stopped on the track. Gordon chose the outside line for the restart and once again beat his teammate into turn one. On lap 6, Johnson passed Gordon coming off turn one. Two laps later, Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman took positions and sent Gordon back to 4th.

Gordon struggled with handling as he was unable to get in the throttle coming off the corners. He dropped to 5th after Greg Biffle passed on lap 9. Gordon fell to 7th before the caution waved on lap 14. Pit stops ensued with Gordon departing in 13th place after a series of adjustments. The chassis changes seemed to pay immediate dividends as Gordon moved into the top-10 within one lap of the restart. By lap 20, he was up to 7th position. Gordon’s progress continued after passing Jeff Burton to take 6th on lap 23. However, he was unable to gain ground on the top-5 and remained in the 6th spot until a round of green flag pit stops on lap 45. Gordon moved up to 5th following the cycle of pit stops. He remained 5th through the next cycle of green flag stops on lap 75.

A debris caution on lap 103 during a cycle of pit stops brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon entered in 3rd place and held the position coming off of pit road. He restarted in 5th due to Carl Edwards and Jeff Burton pitting before the caution flag. However, he was hindered by the inside line and dropped to 9th within a lap of the restart. The caution waved on lap 113 after David Stremme hit the wall. Most of the leaders– including Gordon– elected to stay on the track. He fell from 8th to 12th on lap 118 after getting loose in turn three. On lap 121, he dropped another two positions. Kurt Busch passed on lap 122 to put Gordon back to 15th place. The handling problems continued as Gordon fell to 23rd on lap 127. He came to pit road a few laps early under green for chassis adjustments on lap 135. After the cycle of stops, he was up to 20th on lap 140.

With 50 laps to go, Gordon was in 18th and seemed to be making headway on getting a handle on the chassis issues — but time was running out in the race. A caution flag on lap 156 brought the field to pit road, but Gordon remained on the track with light rain falling. Crew chief Steve Letarte, who played the rain game and won in 2007, realized that staying on the track and hoping for a sudden shower was Gordon’s only chance at a victory. When the sun shined through, he was forced to give up the lead. Gordon restarted at the end of the line, but the silver lining was that he’d be able to make it to the finish without stopping for fuel if the race stayed green.

Gordon moved to 18th with 34 laps to go. Three laps later, he moved to 15th with a pass on Dale Earnhardt Jr. With 30 to go, he took 13th from Kyle Busch. With 15 laps to go, the leaders began pitting, which allowed Gordon to gain positions. He entered the top-10 on lap 186 while in fuel conservation mode with the throttle. On lap 190, Gordon was up to 6th as more leaders came to pit road for fuel. He finished in 4th after two drivers — including Jimmie Johnson — ran out of fuel on the final lap. At the front of the field, Tony Stewart scored his first victory as a car owner. It was the first victory for an owner/driver since Ricky Rudd scored a win in 1998, though Stewart’s car is technically owned by Margaret Haas, the wife of Stewart/Haas co-owner Gene Haas.

Pit Road Post Race Interview

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS, Finished 4th
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE TODAY’S RACE WITH THE FUEL MILEAGE SCENARIO?
“We’ve seen it happen at a lot of races. This is a tough place to save so I am really impressed with those guys that finished ahead of us. I am really proud of Steve Letarte and this whole DuPont crew for what they did to get me out there in that position and be able to go all the way. You have to get the finishes any way you can. We never gave up. We were pretty good for a long time. That double-file restart there, boy I will tell you what, it killed us so we have got to work on that a little bit. Just aero-wise, my car was good in a single-file line and when we were in clean air. But whew, it was a handful there in all that dirty air. We got shuffled back there and it kind of worked to our favor. Tried to win it with the rain that didn’t work so fourth place, I am pretty excited about that.”

Jeff Pulls Out of Eldora Charity Race

June 4, 2009 by admin 1544Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F06%2F04%2Fjeff-pulls-out-of-eldora-charity-race%2FJeff+Pulls+Out+of+Eldora+Charity+Race2009-06-04+21%3A10%3A56adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1544

For precautionary reasons, four-time Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon pulled out of Wednesday night’s “Prelude to the Dream” charity dirt track race at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

Gordon, who has been dealing with back problems and sought treatment for the pain in mid-May, elected to skip the event to make sure he would be in good physical condition for this weekend’s Cup race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.

As it turned out, Gordon’s absence didn’t effect the event. Late afternoon Wednesday, heavy rains forced the postponement of the “Prelude” until Sept. 9.

Gordon was involved in a hard wreck last weekend during his qualifying run at Dover, Del., and spent much of the day Tuesday testing at Road Atlanta, a physically demanding road course north of Atlanta.

“As a precaution, I have decided not to race at Eldora on Wednesday night,” Gordon said in a statement released Wednesday. “Due to my recent back procedure and a road course test on Tuesday, I believe the best course of action for me is to bypass the Prelude to The Dream so that I can be in the best physical shape possible for the No. 24 DuPont team at Pocono.dirt-car

“I wish Tony (Stewart) the best with the event and I can’t wait to get back to Eldora in the very near future.”

Fellow Cup series driver Marcos Ambrose is scheduled to replace Gordon in the lineup for Wednesday night’s race, according to Eldora officials, where the event is taking place.

Gordon, who has experienced progressively worse back pain in recent years, had a facet block procedure last month which he hoped would rid himself of much – if not all – of his back pain.

Facet block injections are a diagnostic tool used to isolate and confirm a specific source of back pain. They also have a therapeutic effect, numbing the source of the pain and soothing inflammation.

Facet joints are paired joints in the back that have opposing surfaces of cushioning tissue (cartilage) and a surrounding capsule. Twisting injuries can cause damage to one or both of the joints

Jeff to Compete in “Prelude to the Dream” Pay-per-View

May 31, 2009 by admin 1440Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F05%2F31%2Fjeff-to-compete-in-prelude-to-the-dream-pay-per-view%2FJeff+to+Compete+in+%22Prelude+to+the+Dream%22+Pay-per-View2009-06-01+03%3A37%3A18adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1440

On Wednesday, June 3, the Field of Dreams that is Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio will once again play host to the Prelude to the Dream. The all-star dirt Late Model race featuring 25 world renowned drivers as they battle for dirt supremacy will be presented live to the entire nation on HBO Pay-Per-View, with proceeds from the telecast going to support four military-themed charities:

Wounded Warrior Project: www.WoundedWarriorProject.org
Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund: www.FallenHeroesFund.org
Operation Homefront: www.OperationHomefront.net
Fisher House: www.FisherHouse.org

The fifth annual event will feature such racing icons as Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer and more. All will pilot 2,300-pound dirt Late Model stock cars capable of putting out over 800 horsepower.prelude_blast_jeffg

The live, commercial-free broadcast will begin at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT), with an immediate replay and subsequent replays throughout the week and the following weekend. HBO Pay-Per-View’s racing telecast has a suggested retail price of .95 and is available to more than 71 million pay-per-view homes. HBO Pay-Per-View is the leading supplier of event programming in the pay-per-view industry. Ordering information and up-to-the minute racing information is available at www.hbo.com.

“The Prelude to the Dream just keeps getting bigger every year,” said Stewart, a multi-time racing champion and proud owner of Eldora Speedway. “Since HBO Pay-Per-View began televising the Prelude in 2007, we’ve been able to help a lot of deserving charities, specifically Victory Junction Gang Camp.

“But in light of what’s going on in our world today – with our troops engaged in combat in Afghanistan, Iraq and other places around the world – we felt it was time to do something for those who came back from serving their country with severe injuries, and for those families whose loved ones never made it back.”

The four charities – Wounded Warrior Project, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Operation Homefront and Fisher House – all cater to severely injured military personnel or fallen heroes and their families.

The four previous Prelude to the Dreams have collectively raised more than million. With each year’s event gaining significant stature and mainstream interest, Stewart’s goal is to have the fifth annual Prelude to the Dream raise , million, with the proceeds impacting the four charities.

“It’s an ambitious goal, especially in this economy” admits Stewart. “But if we don’t shoot for a number that is a true difference-maker, we’re not ever going to reach it. That’s our goal, and me and everybody else associated with this event is going to do everything we can to meet that goal. Now, we just need everyone out there to purchase the event, enjoy all the action going on at Eldora, and support our heroes who are protecting our freedom.”

In addition to the aforementioned drivers joining Stewart in this year’s Prelude to the Dream, Brian Vickers, Robby Gordon, David Reutimann, Bill Elliott, Dave Blaney, Aric Almirola, Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Ron Capps, Cruz Pedregon, Ray Evernham, Joey Logano, Jeremy Mayfield and David Stremme have also committed.

Drivers from all types of disciplines, some with lots of dirt track experience and others with hardly any, will participate in hot laps, qualifying, heat races and the 30-lap feature on the half-mile clay oval, all of which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View.

“We are always thrilled to bring this unique and compelling race at Eldora to fans across the country,” said Tammy Ross, vice president, HBO Pay-Per-View & Sports. “Seeing the top drivers in the world going all-out to benefit our courageous armed services men and women who have been injured delivers a sense of privilege and inspiration to everyone involved in presenting the event.”

With no points and no pressure, the Prelude to the Dream is a throwback race, allowing drivers to step back in time and compete for the reasons they all went racing in the first place – pride and a trophy. And they’ll do it on the same surface that racing legends A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti competed on nearly 50 years ago.

Other interesting storylines include:

More Than 20 Driving Titles Represented at the Prelude: A total of 22 major championships have been won by drivers in the Prelude to the Dream: Sprint Cup [11] – Elliott (1988), J. Gordon (1995, 1997, 1998, 2001), Stewart (2002, 2005), Kenseth (2003), Johnson (2006, 2007, 2008); IROC [3] – Harvick (2002), Kenseth (2004), Stewart (2006); Nationwide Series [5] – Harvick (2001, 2006), Vickers (2003), Edwards (2007), Bowyer (2008); IndyCar Series [1] – Stewart (1997); NHRA Funny Car [2] – Pedregon (1992, 2008).

Dirt Veterans vs. Dirt Neophydirt-cartes: Stewart, Gordon, Kahne, Newman, Blaney, Bowyer, Elliott, Schrader and Wallace grew up on dirt tracks, while Vickers, Busch, Harvick, Almirola, Hamlin and Logano spent the majority of their racing upbringing on asphalt.

What Happens When a Drag Racer has to Turn the Steering Wheel?: Capps is a 13-year veteran of the NHRA and Pedregon is a 15-year NHRA driver, where straight-line runs over 300 mph are commonplace. They’ll have to turn right to go left as they sling their dirt Late Models around Eldora.

For those who want to see the Prelude to the Dream in person, tickets are available online at www.EldoraSpeedway.com or by calling the track office (937) 338-3815.

Act fast – the race has sold out in each of its four previous years.

Snapshots of each charity supported by this year’s Prelude are as follows:

Wounded Warrior Project (www.WoundedWarriorProject.org): Mission – To raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (www.FallenHeroesFund.org): Mission – To support severely wounded military personnel and veterans, ensuring that those who sacrifice for our nation receive the best care possible. These efforts are funded entirely with donations from the public, and hundreds of thousands of individuals have contributed to the Fund.

Operation Homefront (www.OperationHomefront.net): Mission – Provides emergency assistance and morale to our troops, to the families they leave behind, and to wounded warriors when they return home.

Fisher House (www.FisherHouse.org): Mission – To provide “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. There are 40 Fisher Houses located on 18 military installations and 10 VA medical centers. Three more are under construction.

Dover In-Car Audio

May 31, 2009 by admin 1481Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F05%2F31%2Fjeff-gordon-dover-in-car-audio%2FDover+In-Car+Audio2009-05-31+22%3A57%3A56adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1481

May 31 – – Give Jimmie Johnson a challenge and he’ll rise up to meet it. Although he dominated the 400-lap race at Dover International Speedway, a pit road miscue put the three-time champion back in 8th position for the restart with less than 30 laps to go. He systematically worked through the lead lap cars — and lapped traffic — to regain the race lead with less than 5 laps to go. It was Johnson’s 42nd career victory. For his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon, it was a rather forgettable afternoon. Gordon finished two laps down in 26th position.

Jeff Gordon’s weekend at Dover International Speedway was essentially ruined before the green flag even flew. A wreck during his qualifying lap destroyed his primary race car and forced him to start at the rear of the field. The combination of a poor starting spot and an uncomfortable setup resulted in Gordon turning in his worst racing performance of the 2009 season.

Gordon started 42nd and gained five spots in the first five laps. By lap 11, he had moved to 31st as his march forward continued. A competition caution slowed the field on lap 31 with Gordon up to the 28th position. He gained two spots on pit road and restarted in 26th. A caution for Tony Raines’ brought several leaders to pit road. Gordon moved up to 14th position for the restart on lap 50. However, on older tires he faded to 16th within five laps. His fade continued as he slipped to 21st by lap 70. Gordon dropped a position to Kevin Harvick and ran in 22nd place at the 100-lap mark.

Gordon came onto pit road under green on lap 117 just before the caution waved for debris. While the right side tires were being changed, crew chief Steve Letarte immediately called for two tires to try to keep Gordon on the lead lap. However, the strategy failed as he was scored a lap down in 28th place. At the halfway point, Gordon dropped to 30th and was on the verge of going two laps down. Race leader Jimmie Johnson passed Gordon on lap 216 to put his teammate out of contention for the day. He moved up to 26th as the laps wound down, but was hindered by the laps down status.

Gordon lost the series points lead to Tony Stewart. He has posted just one top-5 finish in 6 races since winning at Texas Motor Speedway in early-April.

May 30 – – Jeff Gordon will start at the rear of the field at the start of Sunday’s 400-mile race at Dover International Speedway after slamming the turn two wall during his qualifying lap. He flattened the right side of the DuPont Chevrolet, thus requiring a back-up car for Sunday’s race. “I got down into turn one and when I got back in the gas it felt pretty good but it started to get loose a little bit there off of turn two,” Gordon said. “I tried to correct it and it just shot it straight in the wall. It was a hard hit, destroyed the car. I’m glad I’m alright.”
