Chicago In Car Audio – 2010

July 11, 2010 by admin 3335Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2010%2F07%2F11%2Fchicago-in-car-audio-2010%2FChicago+In+Car+Audio+-+20102010-07-11+05%3A04%3A23adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D3335

July 11 – – Jeff Gordon came to Chicagoland Speedway with his focus on a different track. Ordinarily, that would be a problem. However, Gordon and crew chief Steve Letarte brought a new car to Chicago in the hopes of using the car at Kansas Speedway during the Chase for the Championship. Based on Gordon’s 3rd place finish at Chicago, the car may have earned a return engagement later this year. Unfortunately for Gordon it’s been 48 races since his last NASCAR victory — the longest winless drought of his Cup series career. Though he posted his fifth straight top-5 finish, the first time he’s done that since March-May 2007.

Chicago In Car Audio

July 12, 2009 by admin 19681 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F07%2F12%2Fchicago-in-car-audio%2FChicago+In+Car+Audio2009-07-12+04%3A42%3A28adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1968

July 12 – – Jeff Gordon posted a solid runner-up finish at Chicagoland Speedway after a late rally from handling problems.  Gordon battled a tight handling condition at the outset and struggled getting off the corners virtually the entire race.  He fell out of the top-10, but rallied back through pit stops to crack the top-10 with 50 laps to go. Gordon moved up to 8th with 25 laps to go and closed in on Kurt Busch for a position before the final caution with 21 laps remaining.  Gordon was the first car to come onto pit road.  Contact between Busch and Jimmie Johnson forced Gordon onto the track apron with 15 laps to go where he got around both drivers to take 4th place.  With 13 to go, he dove low on the backstretch to take 3rd from Kasey Kahne.  Three laps later, he took the runner-up spot from Denny Hamlin.

A caution for Kyle Busch’s spin brought out the caution with 6 laps to go.  Gordon restarted on the inside of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Mark Martin with 2 laps to go.  Martin took off on the restart and Gordon slipped behind Kahne.  He grouped to take 2nd from Kahne on the final lap, but was distantly behind Martin at the finish.  Martin and Gordon collected $1 million from the race’s title sponsor for the 1-2 finish, since the pair finished 1-2 in the Michigan race sponsored by the same company in June.

Gordon is scheduled to be a presenter at the annual ESPN awards on Wednesday night.

Post Race Quote

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS — Finished 2nd:

GOOD CALL BY YOUR CREW CHIEF TO GET YOU SOME TIRES, WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE AT THE END? “Well we had our struggles. We had a good car, we were just a little too tight there at the beginning and we were making adjustments. Carl Edwards and I got racing really hard and he got loose underneath me and we about wrecked so we had a long battle from that point on. It was an incredible call that (crew chief) Steve Letarte made and the whole pit crew just did a fantastic job getting us off pit road. It was four tires then it was just a battle maneuvering through traffic with cars slipping and sliding all over the place. That last restart Mark (Martin) went a little early and I just spun the tires when I tried to get it going. It’s still a great finish, one-two for Hendrick. Got to thank the Patriot Academy and DuPont. It’s a privilege having them on board. We could certainly use a night like this and that’s important in the Chase. We’re running really strong and showing them what we’re made of on these tracks.”

LifeLockcom400

July 10 – – Jeff Gordon will start 7th in Saturday night’s Lifelock 400 buoyed by his success with the National Guard paint scheme. In four previous races with the National Guard colors, Gordon has posted four top-five finishes, including his lone victory of the season at Texas Motor Speedway. On Saturday night, his car will feature the National Guard Patriot Academy. Crew chief Steve Letarte has chosen chassis No. 24-484 for the race. Gordon used this chassis for the All-Star Race in May (wrecked while going for the lead) and also for Bristol (4th place) in March. Gordon is scheduled to be a presenter at the annual ESPN awards next week.

June 15 – – It wasn’t a victory for Jeff Gordon at Michigan Speedway, but after starting last to begin the day, he posted a solid top-5 finish. The overall lack of caution flags — there were only three in the race — forced the team to make adjustments on the fly.

Gordon started at the rear of the field due to an engine change on Friday. He gained three spots on the opening lap, and moved up to 32nd on lap 5. He picked off two more spots on lap 6, and another pair on lap 8 to run in the 28th position. His upward climb continued as he moved to 22nd on lap 16. Gordon entered the top-20 on lap 19 and moved up three more spots by lap 26. He moved up to 15th on lap 40 before a round of green flag pit stops. When the stops cycled through, Gordon ran in the 16th position.

A debris caution on lap 73 brought the field to pit road. Gordon restarted in 18th and gained four spots by lap 86. At the halfway point he ran in 13th, but was distantly behind race leader Jimmie Johnson. Gordon moved into the top-10 with a pass on Dale Earnhardt Jr on lap 110. A cycle of green flag pit stops ensued with Gordon holding onto the 10th spot. The second caution for debris came on lap 121. Gordon stayed on the track and moved to 8th on the restart. He took 6th from Tony Stewart on lap 133 as he closed in on the top-5. A caution for David Stremme’s crash on lap 152 slowed the field and set up pit stops. Gordon departed in the 5th position knowing that he would make it if the race went green until the finish.

He restarted in 5th on the inside line and immediately fell to 6th. He took the 5th position from Juan Pablo Montoya on lap 163. Gordon battled Denny Hamlin for position in the closing stages and took 4th place with 7 laps to go. At the front of the field, Johnson passed Greg Biffle for the lead with 5 laps to go, but ran out of fuel on the final lap. Gordon moved up to 3rd when he went around Johnson and then took 2nd when Biffle ran out of fuel on the backstrech. However, Gordon was several seconds behind race winner Mark Marin. The runner-up finish was Gordon’s best effort since his victory at Texas in early-April.
