Despite ’08 troubles, Gordon set to contend for title

February 24, 2009 by admin

For the last 17 seasons, NASCAR fans have watched Jeff Gordon grow up in front of their eyes.

Since winning his first Cup championship in 1995, Gordon’s voice has held authority. When outspoken, his arguments are calculated and smoothly delivered. When he or his team’s ability or determination is questioned, the response remains positive and upbeat.

Sunday night’s postrace comments by the second-place finisher at Auto Club Speedway carried a similar tone, yet with an enthusiasm that was so genuine it was apparent that the old Jeff Gordon was back.

Gordon graciously congratulated winner Matt Kenseth, but the confidence of the four-time champion beamed with the expectation that a fifth title could be just 34 races away.

“We were awesome in every way tonight with this DuPont Chevrolet,” Gordon said.”I’m really excited on one side and I’m really upset on the other because I felt like we had an opportunity to win this race.”

Gordon not only had an opportunity to win the Auto Club 500, he skillfully picked off one car at a time beginning with his teammate Jimmie Johnson on Lap 78 after the No. 48 Chevrolet had dominated by leading 74 laps prior to being passed in Turn 2.

Auto Club 500 In-car Audio

February 23, 2009 by admin 306Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F02%2F23%2Fjeff-gordon-auto-club-500-in-car-audio%2FAuto+Club+500+In-car+Audio2009-02-23+04%3A24%3A38adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D306

Jeff Gordon’s winless drought will continue at least for another week, but his runner-up finish to Matt Kenseth in the Auto Club 500 at California Speedway showed that his race team has made significant strides on the downforce tracks over the off-season. “We certainly are going to win if we put cars out there like this,” Gordon said. “We still have a little bit of work to do but I’m excited because we ran so good. We made an adjustment that made my car just a little too tight at the end.” Gordon started 6th, ran in the top-three virtually all night, and led significant portions of the mid-late stages of the race. However, he was beaten off pit road by Kenseth with 35 laps to go. Gordon had called for a handling adjustment that made the car too tight on the final run. Although he closed in on Kenseth as the laps wound down, he was unable to get around the leader. Nevertheless, the runner-up finish thrusts him up to 2nd in the series standings and gives the team something to build on heading to Las Vegas next weekend.

Jeff Gordon – Daytona 500 In-car Audio

February 15, 2009 by admin 232Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F02%2F15%2Fjeff-gordon-daytona-500-in-car-audio%2FJeff+Gordon+-+Daytona+500+In-car+Audio2009-02-15+23%3A57%3A50adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D232

Matt Kenseth took the lead of the Daytona 500 just one lap before a caution flag on lap 148. As it turned out, it was the most important lead change of his career as the 2003 NASCAR champion was out front when the race was red flagged for rain on lap 152. NASCAR called the event after waiting less than 20 minutes. It was Kenseth’s 17th — and biggest — career victory. Jeff Gordon’s day was an up and down affair that culminated with a 13th place effort. Gordon started 3rd and ran in the lead pack for the first half of the race. He took the lead on lap 69 but a recurring tire problem on long green flag runs hindered his efforts. He dropped a lap down due to an early pit stop for tires on a green flag run after the halfway point, but rallied back after receiving the free pass under caution. However, he simply ran out of time due to the rain before his comeback through the field could be completed.

Gatorade Duel In-Car Audio

All the doors that closed one time have opened up again for Jeff Gordon as he scored the victory in the first Gatorade Duel at Daytona on Thursday afternoon. Gordon’s victory assures him of the 3rd starting spot in Sunday’s Daytona 500. It was Gordon’s first NASCAR series win in 16 months. He ran in the top-3 for nearly the entire 60-lap event. He took the lead for the first time on lap 37, and relinquished the top spot after pit stops with 10 laps to go. Gordon eventually worked his way back to the front with drafting help from Jimmie Johnson, and traded the lead several times with Tony Stewart in the final six laps. A strong drafting push by Joey Logano pushed Gordon back into the lead with two laps to go. Gordon held off Stewart to claim the victory.
