Jeff Gordon led the most laps in the Daytona 500, but faded in the second half of the event. However, he was on pace for a top-10 finish before contact on the final lap sent the #24 car into a spin and a 33rd place finish. At the front of the field, Joey Logano held off a charge from Kevin Harvick to win the biggest race of his career, Gordon started on the pole and led the opening lap before Jimmie Johnson passed on the high line to take the lead. With drafting help from Dale Earnhardt Jr, Gordon re-assumed the lead on lap 14. He held he lead through a round of caution flag pit stops on lap 19. The next caution came on lap 41 when Tony Stewart made contact with the frontstretch wall. On the restart, Joey Logan took the race lead on the outside line. Gordon rebounded with a push from Earnhardt Jr and a side draft in the corner to take the top spot on lap 52. He led until a round of green flag stops on lap 88, where Gordon’s crew opted for four tires. Following stops, he re-assumed the lead on lap 90. At the halfway point, Gordon was leading ahead of his teammate Kasey Kahne. A debris caution on lap 105 slowed the field.

On the restart, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano drafted past Gordon. He slipped to 7th on lap 115, before dropped to 10th by lap 120. Gordon locked into a draft with Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne to move back up to 5th place on lap 145. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 153. He ran 8th when the caution waved with 40 laps to go for Brad Keselowski’s engine. Gordon came to pit road to top off on fuel. He restarted in 13th place with 35 to go. Gordon locked into a draft with Denny Hamlin in the middle line and moved up to 7th place with 30 to go. A caution for Ryan Blaney’s engine with 25 to go slowed the field. The leaders stayed out to hold track position. Gordon restarted in 7th with 19 laps to go. He locked into a draft with Martin Truex and moved into the top-5 with 15 to go. With 10 to go, Gordon moved to the middle line behind Johnson in 5th place. He slipped to 9th prior to a caution for Justin Allagaier’s crash with 3 laps to go, which set up a green/white/checkered finish. He was running 10th in the middle line on the final lap when Austin Dillon tagged the #24 car coming off turn two. The subsequent spin and contact resulted in a 33rd place finish.

JG’s comments
“For some reason, I’m still smiling and enjoying every moment of it. Obviously I enjoyed the first half a lot more than the second half. What an amazing car we had, out front controlling the race. We had just one restart where I was on the outside and couldn’t get our line going. We got shuffled back and kind of played catch up from that point on. This was an amazing week. I’m just in a different place that’s so foreign to me, but so incredible to be taking it all in and enjoying every moment. Right now, I’m a little bit sad that it’s my final Daytona 500, but I’m more upset we didn’t have a shot at winning there at the end. Congratulations to Joey Logano … that’s what it’s all about. These types of moments in such a big race. It means so much to all of us and you want to share that with the people you’re closest to that have been there along the way. I’m not going to miss those final laps. That was just crazy. But I certainly would have liked to have had a shot to win it.”

Daytona 500 In-Car Audio

February 24, 2014 by admin 6359Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F02%2F24%2Fnascar-jeff-gordon-in-car-audio-daytona-500-2014%2FDaytona+500+In-Car+Audio2014-02-25+03%3A10%3A24adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6359

Dale Earnhardt Jr captured his second Daytona 500 victory and snapped a 55-race winless streak on a long day at Daytona International Speedway. The season-opening race was delayed more than 6 hours by rain, with the finish coming just before midnight eastern time. Jeff Gordon helped propel Earnhardt Jr to a commanding lead on the final restart and finished in 4th place — his best Daytona 500 finish since winning in 2005.

Gordon started 6th and got a push from Kurt Busch to move to 2nd on lap 2. One lap later he went to the inside line and slipped back to 9th place as the field ran in single file. The first caution waved on lap 23 for Kyle Larson’s spin in turn 2. Gordon’s crew changed two tires and he restarted in 6th on lap 28. He stayed in the high line and moved up to 3rd behind Paul Menard and Denny Hamlin. However, the inside line began moving and dropped Gordon back to 7th. The next caution waved on lap 33 for Martin Truex’s engine. Rain began falling during the caution period which resulted in a red flag condition for more than 6 hours.

The race resumed under a dark sky just before 9pm. Gordon held the inside line and moved to 5th by lap 55, but eventually was caught in the middle line and faded back to 12th on lap 61. He hooked up in a draft with Kasey Kahne and moved back up to 7th on lap 70. One lap later he came to pit road for a 4-tire change. Gordon ran 17th at the halfway point of the event. He came to pit road on lap 119 for two tires. Following the stops, Gordon ran in 13th place. On lap 144, Gordon barely avoided a wreck when Aric Almirola spun across the track coming off turn 4. Gordon was just ahead of Almirola’s spinning car. On the restart, Gordon moved up to 11th in a draft behind Joey Logano. With 40 laps to go, Gordon moved to 7th on the inside line behind Matt Kenseth. A multi-car wreck with 38 laps to go was trigged when Austin Dillon hit Kyle Larson in turn 4. Marcos Ambrose and Kasey Kahne were collected in the melee.

Gordon restarted in 6th with 32 laps to go. He worked into the draft behind Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr to run 5th with 29 to go. He moved to the middle and ran behind Greg Biffle in 7th place with 22 to go. He followed Biffle to the low line and ran 6th with 20 to go. One lap later, Denny Hamlin dove low and put Gordon in the middle, which pulled him back to 7th place on the high line. A caution for Trevor Bayne’s crash on the backstretch slowed the field with 16 laps to go. With 12 to go, Gordon ducked to the bottom line to move into a line behind Johnson and Earnhardt Jr. With 9 to go, Gordon was pushed to 2nd by Brad Keselowski. With 7 to go, Gordon moved to the high line and dropped to 3rd behind Keselowski. A wreck with 6 laps to go was started when Dillon hit Ryan Newman in turn 3, which collected four drivers.

Gordon restarted 3rd behind Earnhardt Jr with 2 laps to go. He gave him teammate a needed push on the restart before settling in behind him. He finished in 4th place — his best Daytona 500 finish since winning in 2005.

Turning point
Gordon ran in 7th place with less than 20 laps to go, but worked his way forward into a drafting line with his Hendrick Motorsports teammates in the closing stages.

JG’s comments
“I’m so excited for Hendrick Motorsports right now. Congratulations to Dale, that’s so cool. I know how excited his fans are. Rick Hendrick, another Daytona 500 victory. Three Hendrick cars in the top-5 was spectacular. I don’t know what happened when the rain went away and the track dried. Everybody’s brain just flipped over to, ‘this is a shootout.’ It was unbelievable the kind of racing with two- and three-wide, bump drafting. Just craziness. For awhile we didn’t have great track position, I was just hanging on trying not to wreck and seeing other guys do the same thing. We got through some wrecks and then we really started having things go our way with some good pushes and picking the good lines.”

ON THE LAST LAP
“I gave Dale Jr a great push when we took the green so we got a good start. The 99 (Carl Edwards) got to my bumper and we started going. Then he got kind of sucked off of me so I was just a sitting duck along for the ride from that point. I saw Jimmie Johnson going three-wide behind me. My lane started going backwards. But when he got to me, he gave me a huge shove. The 11 (Denny Hamlin) pulled down in front of me and our lane just went. At that point, I was like, ‘maybe we can get to Junior.’ But at the same time I thought anything in the top-3 without a wrecked car would be a great finish. We wanted to win bad and we had a car that could, but we’re also excited to see Junior win it.”

Jeff Gordon started on the inside of the first row and moved ahead of polesitter Danica Patrick coming off turn 2. He led a single-file line under the first caution for debris on lap 27. Gordon came to pit road and opted for a two-tire change to hold the top spot. On the restart, Gordon moved up to the outside line to draft with his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne. He lost the lead on lap 31 when Jimmie Johnson went by on the low line. Gordon slipped in line just ahead of Kahne in 4th place. That turned out to be an advantegous spot when Kyle Busch and Kahne made contact on lap 33 while running 5th and 6th. Kahne spun sideways and collected Juan Pablo Montoya. The ensuing melee collected Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Jamie McMurray, Casey Mears, and Brad Keselowski (who collected minor damage to the front of his car).

Gordon remained on the outside line when racing resumed. At the 100-mile mark, he ran in 6th place. He moved to 4th place in a single-file line on lap 42. He remained there until a cycle of green flag pit stops on lap 72. Following stops, Gordon ran 5th in a single-file formation. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 83. Gordon came in for fuel and returned to the event in 7th place. On the restart, Gordon slipped back to 15th place on the high line. At the halfway point, Gordon ran single-file in 14th place. As his water temperature increased, Gordon moved to the inside line and dropped to 19th place on lap 109. Three laps later, he ran in 26th place. He came to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 130. Seven laps later, Gordon dove low sneaked through a multi-car wreck on lap 137 which eliminated Carl Edwards, Trevor Bayne, Terry Labonte, Josh Wise, David Ragan, Austin Dillon, and David Gilliand. Gordon restarted 14th on lap 146 and moved into the top-10 by lap 149.

Gordon ran 6th in single-file with 50 laps to go. He took 5th when Kyle Busch dropped off the pace. Gordon came to pit road for a scheduled two-tire change under the green flag on lap 173. A caution flag for Jeff Burton’s crash slowed the field on lap 178 with Gordon in 10th place. On the restart with 19 to go, Gordon held the outside line behind Danica Patrick and moved to 4th place. However, the inside line, led by Jimmie Johnson gained momentum and created side-by-side racing at the front of the field. Gordon was caught in the middle line with 12 to go and dropped back to 12th place behind Joey Logano. Gordon moved up to 9th before a debris caution with 9 laps to go. On the restart with 6 to go, Gordon moved to the middle and pushed Logano. However, he wound up getting pinned in a 3-way situation before clearing two cars. With 3 to go, Gordon lost momentum on the inside line and dropped outside the top-20. He sustained minor damage on the final lap trying to avoid a melee coming off turn 2. Gordon has just 1 top-10 finish in his last 8 starts in the Daytona 500.

Turning point
Gordon was shuffled back in traffic after the final restart with 6 laps to go. He pushed Joey Logano, but wound up losing momentum on the low line and faded beyond 20th place.

JG’s Post-Race Comments
“It’s pretty frustrating for us. We were in a great position at the start of the race, lost track position, got it back, and felt like we were in a great position to get a top-5 if not a win and battle for it up there. Our car was awesome. Just those last couple of restarts, the lane that we were in just didn’t go anywhere. We tried. We tried up the middle and down the bottom. That top lane just seemed to be the way to go. We tried hard but it certainly didn’t pay off for us. Pretty frustrating way to end it for us. I know were were a lot better than that. But, a lot better than last year. So we’ll take this, go on to Phoenix. I’m really excited about this new Chevy SS and getting to a short track — or at least a 1-mile racetrack like Phoenix.”

A blown engine on lap 81 doomed Jeff Gordon to his worst finish in nearly four years. Gordon finished 40th due to the problem, which was his worst Daytona 500 finish since 1996.

Gordon started 16th and moved to 13th by the end of lap 1. He evaded Jimmie Johnson’s spinning car on the second lap which collected six drivers — including Danica Patrick in her Cup series debut. After the restart, Gordon fell back to 17th on the low line in the draft. Ryan Newman’s spin on lap 12 brought out the second caution flag. Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting pit road in 16th place. On lap 30, he moved to the outside line and drafted up to 9th behind Greg Biffle. He remained in the top-10 and led a lap during a green flag pit stop sequence on lap 59. A debris caution slowed the field just three laps later. On lap 79, Gordon moved into the top-5 behind Denny Hamlin on the outside line. However, the engine blew on Gordon’s car on lap 81, thus ending his night.

As the race progressed, a two-hour red flag delay was necessitated on lap 160 after Juan Pablo Montoya spun under caution and hit the jet dryer on the track. The fuel erupted in a blaze that required extensive track cleanup. As the laps wound down, the clock ticked near 1 am on the east coast. Matt Kenseth held off Dale Earnhardt Jr and Greg Biffle for his second Daytona 500 victory.

Daytona 500 In-Car Audio – 2011

February 20, 2011 by admin 37632 Commentshttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2011%2F02%2F20%2Fdaytona-500-in-car-audio-2011%2FDaytona+500+In-Car+Audio+-+20112011-02-21+00%3A27%3A46adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D3763

Rewind:  Jeff Gordon started 2nd but dropped back on the start after failing to find a drafting partner. Help from Kasey Kahne kept Gordon in the top-10 until the first caution flag. On lap 10, Gordon was pushed into the top-5 by Kahne in a two-car draft before the second caution. Gordon restarted 24th and hooked up with Trevor Bayne in a draft. Gordon sustained minor damage to the front of the car after hitting the rear of Robby Gordon’s car when the field slowed for a caution flag on lap 23. A chain reaction wreck on lap 29 collected Gordon in the mess. Heavy damage to the rear of the car resulted in an extended trip to the garage area for repairs. Gordon returned and finished in 28th place — earning 17 NASCAR points. Trevor Bayne became the youngest ever (20) to win the Daytona 500.

Road ahead:  Throw out the “restrictor plate” madness of Daytona when the series heads to Phoenix. The #24 team tested at Pikes Peak Raceway in early February (1 mile track w/ similar banking) to prepare for the event. Gordon has struggled at Phoenix in recent years. A strong effort in the desert will go a long way toward moving him back into points contention.

JG’s comments:
“The Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet was really fast. I had just got with Trevor Bayne again, I had some help from Kasey Kahne in the beginning. We were having a lot of fun. You know, I totally get the two-car drafting and I think we are going to see a lot more of it. What I don’t understand is why guys are doing it three-wide, three-deep running for 28th. We need to let it thin out a little. As soon as it thins out, then go to it and they can do it pretty safe and pretty harm free. Like right there, I was sitting there just kind of riding along just waiting for it to thin out. I probably should have waited even farther in the back, but you see them and they are pushing and shoving up the middle down the back straightaway. I’m like ‘what are they doing’, you know. You can understand those guys in the front two or three rows, go ahead… they are going to go out there and do it. But, anyway, it is disappointing.

WHAT HAPPENED? “We got into the NO. 7 (Robby Gordon) when the No. 29 (Kevin Harvick) blew up. He got down in front of me, I just couldn’t get slowed down enough and got in the back of him and tore his car up. We had a little damage to the grill opening so we came in and patched that up. That got us in the back and we lost our drafting partner Trevor Bayne and Kasey Kahne. Back there you could actually just use the draft, you didn’t need a partner. I was watching these guys in front of me like bumper cars. Bumping off of one another, three deep, four deep and three and four wide. Unfortunately we go caught up in it. I saw the 00 (David Reutimann) get turned and I was doing everything I could to avoid it and we got caught up in it.”

HOW DISAPPOINTED ARE YOU? “It is such a bummer. We had such a fast race car, such a great race team. You have to take what you can from this. The most disappointing thing is we don’t have a shot at winning the Daytona 500. We prepared so long and hard, these guys worked so hard and built me such a great race car. So that is the bummer. But at the same time, this could be a good lesson for us to repair this car and get back out there and get ourselves prepared to win a championship.”

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE RACING OUT THERE? “In the first eight or 10 cars, it is good, it is fun. But everybody is trying to do this two-car draft all the way to 38th and that is where you have to be careful. You can’t be three and four wide and five rows deep trying to push and shove one another. You have to use your head a little bit more and you have to be a little more patient. When it thins out, then we can go. A lot of guys aren’t waiting for it to thin out, they are just pushing and they are getting themselves in trouble.”

DO YOU KNOW HOW THE WRECK HAPPENED? “I don’t know, somehow the 00 got turned, I’m not really sure how. I’m pretty sure somebody was pushing him and he had to check up or something happened. You are going to see a lot more of it. It is just not going to work until we thin out the field. Unfortunately we are one of those cars that got thinned out of it. We’ll do what we can to get this Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet repaired and get back out there and get as many points as we can.

February 15 – – It was a long day into night at Daytona International Speedway as an asphalt problem in turn two delayed the Daytona 500 into a night finish.  For Jamie McMurray, it turned out to be his finest moment as a NASCAR driver, while Jeff Gordon struggled late in the event with traffic and crashed on the final lap.

Gordon started in the rear of the field and moved up to 33rd by lap 5.  On lap 8, he dove onto the track apron to avoid a multiple car crash triggered by Brad Keselowski’s spin in turn two.  Gordon pitted for tires and restarted in 31st on lap 13.    He worked the draft and moved up with Kyle Busch to 23rd on lap 30. Five laps later, he lost Busch in the draft, but moved to 21st position.  Gordon entered the top-20 on lap 40 as a green flag pit stop sequence began.  He came to pit road for tires and fuel on lap 50.

Gordon rode in 20th for the next 15 laps as the field strung out in a single-file line.  Joe Nemechek’s spin on lap 67 brought the caution, and the field came to pit road.  Gordon exited pit road in 15th place and restarted there on lap 70.  However, he fell to 19th and moved up to the high line on lap 74.  Mike Bliss’ spin on lap 78 brought the caution out and the field returned to pit road for tires.  Gordon changed two tires and restarted in 5th on lap 82.  He drafted with Martin Truex and moved into 3rd on lap 88 behind Greg Biffle and Kyle Busch.  Clint Bowyer gave Gordon a drafting push, and Gordon moved to the outside to try for the race lead.   However, Busch moved up in line and took the race lead with help from Gordon. Bowyer gave Gordon drafting help to take the race lead on lap 98. Gordon led the race at the halfway point, before Bowyer passed on lap 101.  Gordon settled into the low line behind Kevin Harvick in 3rd place.  Gordon made a bid for the lead and got shuffled back to 5th place on lap 108.  He fell to 9th on lap 111 before John Andretti’s cut tire resulted in a caution flag on lap 117.  Gordon changed four tires and departed in 11th place.   The race was red flagged for nearly two hours after a chunk of asphalt needed replacement in turn two.

When the race restarted, the sun was setting in the western sky and the track temperature was noticeably cooler.  Gordon hung to the low line and moved up to 7th with 73 to go.   Gordon stayed behind Truex in the draft and moved up to 5th with 63 laps to go. Five laps later, AJ Allmendinger got loose underneath Gordon exiting turn two.  Allmendinger spun toward the inside of the track, barely avoiding the left rear of Gordon’s car.   Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting pit road in 5th place.  On the restart, Gordon hooked up in a tight draft with Elliott Sadler on the high line. With 52 to go, Gordon pushed Sadler alongside Truex for the race lead.  Two laps later, he bumped Sadler aside to take 3rd place.  Gordon tried to move to the middle line with 48 laps remaining, but got hung out in the draft.  He slipped back to 16th place before hooking up in a draft with Mark Martin and moving up to 12th.  A caution at the 400-mile mark was for a problem with the asphalt patch in turn two.  The race was red-flagged once again with drivers exiting their cars for an extended period.

The drivers returned to their cars at 6:30pm/eastern time for a finish under the lights.  The lead lap cars came to pit road with Gordon opting for two tires and departing in 4th place.  He restarted in 5th with 32 laps to go because Scott Speed did not pit.  With 16 laps to go, Gordon worked his way around Speed on the inside line but had no drafting help.  He fell to 8th before getting in line behind Jamie McMurray.  He dropped to 10th on the high line behind Truex with 12 laps to go.  Five laps later, Ryan Newman, Travis Kvapil, and Elliott Sadler crashed on the backstretch to bring out the caution.  Gordon came to pit road for two tires and restarted in 13th place with 3 laps to go.  On the restart, Bill Elliott crashed in turn three to bring out the caution and set up a green/white/checkered flag finish.  Gordon lined up 15th for the GWC restart.   Kasey Kahne wrecked coming off turn two (no mercy!) on the first GWC attempt as Kevin Harvick pushed his way through Greg Biffle and Martin Truex to take the race lead.

On the second GWC restart, Harvick got a push from Carl Edwards to take the racfe lead. However, the outside line zoomed by as Biffle pushed McMurray into the lead.  McMurray held off a furious charge by Dale Earnhardt Jr to take the victory.  Gordon wrecked in turn three on the final lap due to Denny Hamlin’s front bumper and finished the event in 26th place.

Jeff Gordon – Daytona 500 In-car Audio

February 15, 2009 by admin 232Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F02%2F15%2Fjeff-gordon-daytona-500-in-car-audio%2FJeff+Gordon+-+Daytona+500+In-car+Audio2009-02-15+23%3A57%3A50adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D232

Matt Kenseth took the lead of the Daytona 500 just one lap before a caution flag on lap 148. As it turned out, it was the most important lead change of his career as the 2003 NASCAR champion was out front when the race was red flagged for rain on lap 152. NASCAR called the event after waiting less than 20 minutes. It was Kenseth’s 17th — and biggest — career victory. Jeff Gordon’s day was an up and down affair that culminated with a 13th place effort. Gordon started 3rd and ran in the lead pack for the first half of the race. He took the lead on lap 69 but a recurring tire problem on long green flag runs hindered his efforts. He dropped a lap down due to an early pit stop for tires on a green flag run after the halfway point, but rallied back after receiving the free pass under caution. However, he simply ran out of time due to the rain before his comeback through the field could be completed.
