NRE-Feat

CHICAGO — NASCAR announced Thursday an agreement to rebrand the former Jeff Gordon Racing School into the NASCAR Racing Experience.  The multi-year licensing agreement brings an authentic racing experience to NASCAR fans, its sponsors and business partners at race tracks throughout the country.

The NASCAR Racing Experience provides a menu of racing programs from a ride-along as a front-seat passenger to the full racing experience which puts fans behind the wheel of an authentic race car.  The program will use current Sprint Cup Series race cars for all of its programs.

“We have provided more than 200,000 driving experiences to race fans and business partners since 1998,” said Robert J. Lutz, president and CEO of NASCAR Racing Experience.  “This new step in becoming an officially licensed NASCAR property further enhances the program to allow it to expand our reach.”

“The Jeff Gordon Racing School provided an unequaled opportunity for fans to sit in the driver seat and — for a moment — become a race car driver,” said Sprint Cup driver and four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon.  “This move to become the NASCAR Racing Experience is a good step to expand the program throughout NASCAR working with more teams and tracks.”

The NASCAR Racing Experience currently has 28 Sprint Cup race cars, 40 professional instructors and is headquartered in Concord, N.C. NRE offers realistic racing action that includes timed racing sessions, no lead-follow and Personal Racing Instructors that provide constant feedback to each customer through an exclusive in-car radio communication system.  Prices for ride-alongs start at $129 and the driving programs begin at $429.

“The thrill of riding in or driving a real NASCAR Sprint Cup car is an experience of a lifetime,” said Blake Davidson, NASCAR managing director of licensed products.  “This program allows fans, corporations and our business partners to get first-hand knowledge of what its like to race at speeds upwards of 170 mph around the same tracks as the biggest stars of NASCAR. No other sport provides to its fans the chance to experience the realism of competition like a racing experience using authentic race cars on a NASCAR track.”

The NASCAR Racing Experience will begin operating at 12 Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series tracks across the country before expanding to additional tracks in 2010. Current locations include: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway, Darlington Raceway, Kansas Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Kentucky Speedway, Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway, Richmond International Raceway, Talladega Superspeedway and Texas Motor Speedway.

Daytona Coke Zero 400 In Car Audio

July 5, 2009 by admin 19171 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F07%2F05%2Fjeff-gordon-daytona-coke-zero-400-in-car-audio%2FDaytona+Coke+Zero+400+In+Car+Audio2009-07-05+04%3A11%3A46adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1917

July 5 – – Jeff Gordon struggled to a 28th place finish with a damaged car in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.  Gordon battled handling problems for the first half of the race before getting swept up in a wreck on lap 77.  He went on to finish as the last car on the lead lap in a race that saw a dramatic last lap battle between Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch.  As  Busch attempted to block Stewart, he found himself on the receiving end of a tap.  Stewart went by to claim the victory, while Busch’s car was wrecked beyond recognition.

Jeff led the first lap of the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is that was the only lap he led, and the only time he was in contention.  Hung out on lap 2 by aggressive moves on the part of Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch, Gordon was shuffled quickly to the back of the main pack.  He was able to move back up to 8th position in the first quarter of the race, but a loose race car caused him to drift back to the mid-twenties, and on lap 77, he was caught up in a seven-car wreck that started many places ahead of him.  The car was badly damaged on the right front, but heroic efforts by the Dupont crew kept him on the lead lap, even though the car was damaged and he had intermittent radio problems.  A caution at lap 103 allowed the team to repair the splitter and correct handling issues and he restarted 26th, still on the lead lap.  Gordon chose to hold his wounded car at the rear of the pack, saying “we’ve got a better chance to drive through the big one than to be in it.”  Another caution at lap 152 allowed Gordon to pick up a few more spots, but a bad restart left Gordon last on the lead lap.  Kyle Busch’s violent wreck on the final lap left Tony Stewart in Victory Lane and Gordon 28th, last car on the lead lap.

New Hampshire – In Car Audio

June 28, 2009 by admin 18431 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F06%2F28%2Fnew-hampshire-in-car-audio%2FNew+Hampshire+-+In+Car+Audio2009-06-28+23%3A14%3A07adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1843

June 29 – – Although Jeff Gordon didn’t come away with a victory in the rain-shortened Lenox 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a strong 2nd place effort showed that Gordon had made significant improvement on the flat tracks. Since New Hampshire is the first race in the ‘chase for the championship,’ the strong effort in June should pay dividends in mid-September.

Gordon started on the outside of the front row and immediately jumped into the lead. However, he lost the top spot to Kurt Busch on lap 7. A caution for Patrick Carpentier’s brush with the wall slowed the field on lap 15. Gordon, and most of the top-10, elected to stay on the track. On the restart, he powered ahead of Busch on the outside line to take the lead. Jamie McMurray’s wreck on lap 22 slowed the field. Gordon chose the inside line for the restart and jumped to the outside to hold onto the lead heading into the first turn. Once again, the green flag run was short-lived as A.J. Allmendinger’s spin brought the caution out on lap 28. On the next restart, Busch jumped to the lead on the outside line.

A competition caution on lap 45 brought the field to pit road. Gordon departed pit road with the lead. He chose the outside line for the restart, and subsequently lost the lead to Jimmie Johnson.

Gordon settled in behind Johnson until green flag pit stops on lap 124. Gordon trailed his Hendrick Motorsports teammate by about one second on the track. A debris caution on lap 155 brought the field to pit road. Gordon opted for two tires and exited pit road with the lead. Gordon took the outside line on the restart and held onto the lead. The caution waved on lap 172 after Paul Menard hit the wall. Gordon once again chose the outside line for the restart. Gordon got a jump on the restart, which allowed him to stay in front of the day’s major incident. Martin Truex was turned sideways by Kyle Busch on the fronstretch while coming up to speed. Truex spun toward the outside wall and collected Casey Mears, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, David Ragan, and Brian Vickers. The race was red-flagged for track clean-up.

Gordon got the jump on the restart on lap 180, but the field only ran three laps before a caution for Joey Logano’s cut tire. Gordon raced to the lead on the restart and battled side-by-side with Tony Stewart for a few laps before Scott Speed’s spin brought out the caution flag on lap 190. On the restart, Stewart battled alongside Gordon and took the lead on the backstretch. Gordon ran 2nd to Stewart before green flag pit stops on lap 235. Gordon beat Stewart off pit road and was in position to take the race lead once the stops cycled through the field. However, with rain showers on the horizon, Ryan Newman and Joey Logano stayed on the track in an effort to win a rain-shortened race. Gordon’s fresh tires cut Newman’s 15 second lead in half with 40 laps to go. Newman came to pit road with 38 laps to go after running out of fuel. Joey Logano inherited the lead as steady rain began falling, thus necessitating a caution flag. Gordon held off Busch for the runner-up position just before the caution flag. The race was red flagged with 27 laps to go. The victory was Logano’s first in the Cup series.

June 21 – – Kasey Kahne held off Tony Stewart on a series of late race restarts to win his first career road course race in the Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. Jeff Gordon’s prospects were hindered by a pit road speeding penalty that put him back in 32nd place. He rallied back with a strong effort in the final 20 laps as he gained 15 spots during the closing stages. A green/white/checkered flag finish allowed Gordon to move up from 13th to 9th at the checkered flag.

Post Race Quotes:

STEVE LETARTE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS – Finished 9th:

“The DuPont Chevrolet just wasn’t as fast as we really needed to be all weekend. We made some changes for the race. I don’t think that made it any better. So he (Jeff Gordon) battled real good. We pitted one time we probably shouldn’t have. We worked the first caution really well. We got a little track position and then we had kind of a poor pit stop, and got caught speeding all at the same time and had to go to the back. But the guys kept their heads up and we raced all the way and that’s what you’ve got to do at all these races. So to come home with a top 10 was really impressive.”

DOUBLE FILE RESTARTS ON A ROAD COURSE, DID THEY WORK TODAY?

“It looked like it was a good race, so yeah. The question is, what is work? So I thought it was great. There were some passes and there was some excitement. Some guys were probably disappointed that they lost track position, but it gave us an opportunity. We started 33rd there with about 30 or 35 (laps) to go and we got all the way up to ninth. So I’m a big fan of it at the moment.”

DID JEFF GORDON SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HIS BACK? HE MENTIONED IT MIGHT BE A CONCERN ON A ROAD COURSE

“He didn’t say anything to me. I just saw him and he looked fine to me. I think his back is a whole lot better than the car we gave him.”

NASCAR loses it’s Drawl – Gordon to Blame?

June 15, 2009 by admin 17501 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F06%2F15%2Fnascar-loses-its-drawl-gordon-to-blame%2FNASCAR+loses+it%27s+Drawl+-+Gordon+to+Blame%3F2009-06-15+20%3A31%3A22adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1750

jeff-gordon-classic

I am a bit irrated after reading this article about how NASCAR has lost it’s roots and the author says it all started with Gordon because he did not fit the mold of the the stereotypical driver from the Deep South and because he was from California.   While I do agree to some extent that NASCAR has lost its edge and is now a “plain vanilla” sport, I certainly don’t think Gordon started the downfall.   I blame the leadership of NASCAR for it’s current state.   I miss the drivers of old that voice there opinion, now we have 43 PR robots on the track that are afraid of saying something that is “detrimental to stock car racing” and losing championship points.

Here’s and excert from the article I’m referring to:

And a lot of the blame, or credit, goes to Jeff Gordon.

In many ways, Gordon broke the NASCAR mold. Before he arrived in the early 1990s, most drivers cut their teeth racing on short tracks, slowly working their way up through the sport. Gordon was a child prodigy, groomed by his stepfather in midgets and sprints from the age of 5. Raised in Vallejo, he looked and sounded West Coast, and his bold driving made him very influential.

It still amazes me how the hillbilly NASCAR dolts, yes I’m talking to you Talladega Earnhardt fanatics, continue to shower their hatred on the 24.  Go back to your “black #3” painted double wide and pour one out in the front yard for the 3 car and get over it.  Someone came along and gave your god a run for his money.  Gordon is the closest thing to an old school driver NASCAR has along with Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart.  Oh and those guys are from Las Vegas and Indiana, not exactly Deep South either.

June 15 – – It wasn’t a victory for Jeff Gordon at Michigan Speedway, but after starting last to begin the day, he posted a solid top-5 finish. The overall lack of caution flags — there were only three in the race — forced the team to make adjustments on the fly.

Gordon started at the rear of the field due to an engine change on Friday. He gained three spots on the opening lap, and moved up to 32nd on lap 5. He picked off two more spots on lap 6, and another pair on lap 8 to run in the 28th position. His upward climb continued as he moved to 22nd on lap 16. Gordon entered the top-20 on lap 19 and moved up three more spots by lap 26. He moved up to 15th on lap 40 before a round of green flag pit stops. When the stops cycled through, Gordon ran in the 16th position.

A debris caution on lap 73 brought the field to pit road. Gordon restarted in 18th and gained four spots by lap 86. At the halfway point he ran in 13th, but was distantly behind race leader Jimmie Johnson. Gordon moved into the top-10 with a pass on Dale Earnhardt Jr on lap 110. A cycle of green flag pit stops ensued with Gordon holding onto the 10th spot. The second caution for debris came on lap 121. Gordon stayed on the track and moved to 8th on the restart. He took 6th from Tony Stewart on lap 133 as he closed in on the top-5. A caution for David Stremme’s crash on lap 152 slowed the field and set up pit stops. Gordon departed in the 5th position knowing that he would make it if the race went green until the finish.

He restarted in 5th on the inside line and immediately fell to 6th. He took the 5th position from Juan Pablo Montoya on lap 163. Gordon battled Denny Hamlin for position in the closing stages and took 4th place with 7 laps to go. At the front of the field, Johnson passed Greg Biffle for the lead with 5 laps to go, but ran out of fuel on the final lap. Gordon moved up to 3rd when he went around Johnson and then took 2nd when Biffle ran out of fuel on the backstrech. However, Gordon was several seconds behind race winner Mark Marin. The runner-up finish was Gordon’s best effort since his victory at Texas in early-April.

Pocono 500 In Car Audio

June 7, 2009 by admin 1561Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2009%2F06%2F07%2Fpocono-500-in-car-audio%2FPocono+500+In+Car+Audio2009-06-07+23%3A02%3A43adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D1561

June 8 – – With Jeff Gordon struggling with handling issues during the second half of the Pocono 500, crew chief Steve Letarte elected to play the fuel strategy game. As it turned out, it nearly resulted in a victory.

Gordon started on the outside of the front row and rocketed to the lead before the field entered the first turn. The caution waved on lap 2 after Denny Hamlin stopped on the track. Gordon chose the outside line for the restart and once again beat his teammate into turn one. On lap 6, Johnson passed Gordon coming off turn one. Two laps later, Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman took positions and sent Gordon back to 4th.

Gordon struggled with handling as he was unable to get in the throttle coming off the corners. He dropped to 5th after Greg Biffle passed on lap 9. Gordon fell to 7th before the caution waved on lap 14. Pit stops ensued with Gordon departing in 13th place after a series of adjustments. The chassis changes seemed to pay immediate dividends as Gordon moved into the top-10 within one lap of the restart. By lap 20, he was up to 7th position. Gordon’s progress continued after passing Jeff Burton to take 6th on lap 23. However, he was unable to gain ground on the top-5 and remained in the 6th spot until a round of green flag pit stops on lap 45. Gordon moved up to 5th following the cycle of pit stops. He remained 5th through the next cycle of green flag stops on lap 75.

A debris caution on lap 103 during a cycle of pit stops brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon entered in 3rd place and held the position coming off of pit road. He restarted in 5th due to Carl Edwards and Jeff Burton pitting before the caution flag. However, he was hindered by the inside line and dropped to 9th within a lap of the restart. The caution waved on lap 113 after David Stremme hit the wall. Most of the leaders– including Gordon– elected to stay on the track. He fell from 8th to 12th on lap 118 after getting loose in turn three. On lap 121, he dropped another two positions. Kurt Busch passed on lap 122 to put Gordon back to 15th place. The handling problems continued as Gordon fell to 23rd on lap 127. He came to pit road a few laps early under green for chassis adjustments on lap 135. After the cycle of stops, he was up to 20th on lap 140.

With 50 laps to go, Gordon was in 18th and seemed to be making headway on getting a handle on the chassis issues — but time was running out in the race. A caution flag on lap 156 brought the field to pit road, but Gordon remained on the track with light rain falling. Crew chief Steve Letarte, who played the rain game and won in 2007, realized that staying on the track and hoping for a sudden shower was Gordon’s only chance at a victory. When the sun shined through, he was forced to give up the lead. Gordon restarted at the end of the line, but the silver lining was that he’d be able to make it to the finish without stopping for fuel if the race stayed green.

Gordon moved to 18th with 34 laps to go. Three laps later, he moved to 15th with a pass on Dale Earnhardt Jr. With 30 to go, he took 13th from Kyle Busch. With 15 laps to go, the leaders began pitting, which allowed Gordon to gain positions. He entered the top-10 on lap 186 while in fuel conservation mode with the throttle. On lap 190, Gordon was up to 6th as more leaders came to pit road for fuel. He finished in 4th after two drivers — including Jimmie Johnson — ran out of fuel on the final lap. At the front of the field, Tony Stewart scored his first victory as a car owner. It was the first victory for an owner/driver since Ricky Rudd scored a win in 1998, though Stewart’s car is technically owned by Margaret Haas, the wife of Stewart/Haas co-owner Gene Haas.

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS, Finished 4th
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE TODAY’S RACE WITH THE FUEL MILEAGE SCENARIO?
“We’ve seen it happen at a lot of races. This is a tough place to save so I am really impressed with those guys that finished ahead of us. I am really proud of Steve Letarte and this whole DuPont crew for what they did to get me out there in that position and be able to go all the way. You have to get the finishes any way you can. We never gave up. We were pretty good for a long time. That double-file restart there, boy I will tell you what, it killed us so we have got to work on that a little bit. Just aero-wise, my car was good in a single-file line and when we were in clean air. But whew, it was a handful there in all that dirty air. We got shuffled back there and it kind of worked to our favor. Tried to win it with the rain that didn’t work so fourth place, I am pretty excited about that.”

Dover In-Car Audio

May 31 – – Give Jimmie Johnson a challenge and he’ll rise up to meet it. Although he dominated the 400-lap race at Dover International Speedway, a pit road miscue put the three-time champion back in 8th position for the restart with less than 30 laps to go. He systematically worked through the lead lap cars — and lapped traffic — to regain the race lead with less than 5 laps to go. It was Johnson’s 42nd career victory. For his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon, it was a rather forgettable afternoon. Gordon finished two laps down in 26th position.

Jeff Gordon’s weekend at Dover International Speedway was essentially ruined before the green flag even flew. A wreck during his qualifying lap destroyed his primary race car and forced him to start at the rear of the field. The combination of a poor starting spot and an uncomfortable setup resulted in Gordon turning in his worst racing performance of the 2009 season.

Gordon started 42nd and gained five spots in the first five laps. By lap 11, he had moved to 31st as his march forward continued. A competition caution slowed the field on lap 31 with Gordon up to the 28th position. He gained two spots on pit road and restarted in 26th. A caution for Tony Raines’ brought several leaders to pit road. Gordon moved up to 14th position for the restart on lap 50. However, on older tires he faded to 16th within five laps. His fade continued as he slipped to 21st by lap 70. Gordon dropped a position to Kevin Harvick and ran in 22nd place at the 100-lap mark.

Gordon came onto pit road under green on lap 117 just before the caution waved for debris. While the right side tires were being changed, crew chief Steve Letarte immediately called for two tires to try to keep Gordon on the lead lap. However, the strategy failed as he was scored a lap down in 28th place. At the halfway point, Gordon dropped to 30th and was on the verge of going two laps down. Race leader Jimmie Johnson passed Gordon on lap 216 to put his teammate out of contention for the day. He moved up to 26th as the laps wound down, but was hindered by the laps down status.

Gordon lost the series points lead to Tony Stewart. He has posted just one top-5 finish in 6 races since winning at Texas Motor Speedway in early-April.

May 26 – – The rain-shortned Coca-Cola 600 at Lowes Motor Speedway was not the exiciting Memorial Day weekend event that many had hoped. Jeff Gordon battled through a tight handling condition early in the race that only covered 227 of the 400 scheduled race laps. He nearly fell off the lead lap before lap 100. However, a chassis adjustment brought the DuPont Chevrolet to life and Gordon was turning laps as fast as the leaders before rain brought the proceedings to a halt. Gordon was credited with a 14th place finish and holds onto the series points lead.

May 17 – – With $1,000,000 on the line in the All-Star Challenge, Jeff Gordon held nothing back and went for the win with a daring move in the final 10-lap segment. Finishing second in this race was simply not an option. Gordon took the checkered flag in the third segment and led the field to the green flag for the final 10-lap shootout. On the second lap, he wound up getting loose on the inside of a three-wide battle for the lead and spun into the frontstretch wall. While the night ended in disappointment, the overall strong effort during the event bodes well for next weekend’s Coca-Cola 600.
