Pocono In-Car Audio

August 6, 2012 by admin 5072Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F08%2F06%2Fjeff-gordon-pocono-in-car-audio-pennsylvania-400-nascar%2FPocono+In-Car+Audio2012-08-06+04%3A43%3A01adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5072

Jeff Gordon snatched the lead on a restart shortly before a downpour stopped the Pennsylvania 400, giving him his 86th career win and 6th victory at Pocono. Gordon also moved into the second wildcard spot for the Chase for the Championship.

After the start was delayed nearly two hours due to rain, Gordon started 27th and moved up to 23rd by the end of lap 2. He entered the top-20 on lap 8 and ran 17th when the caution waved for Kyle Busch’s crash on lap 20. Gordon restarted 17th on lap 23 and moved to 15th within five laps. His forward charge continued as he moved into the top-10 on lap 33. At the 100-mile mark, Gordon moved to 8th place. He came to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 49 and cycled through in 10th place. He moved back up to 8th place by lap 60 as the tires wore in. Gordon moved to 5th on lap 63, but was more than 16 seconds behind race leader Jimmie Johnson. He came in for a green flag pit stop on lap 78 and returned to the race in 7th place with rain bearing down on the track.

Kurt Busch’s wreck on lap 86 following a cut tire brought out the caution flag. Gordon stayed on the track and moved up to 6th place when Mark Martin pitted. On the restart, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson made contact in turn one, which forced several in the top-5 to slow. Gordon held his line on the track and moved into the race lead. Heavy rain soon followed and NASCAR red-flagged the event. Less than 10 minutes later, the race was made official on lap 98 with Gordon declared as the winner.

Turning point
Gordon cooly moved low on the track to avoid the melee in turn one when Johnson got loose under Kenseth, which forced others in the top-5 to slow down.

JG’s comments

VICTORY LANE….

“Life can’t much better than it is right now. I’m looking forward to savoring this moment. Because that’s the nice thing about not winning. When you’re not winning much, lemme tell ya, you appreciate it a whole lot more and it sticks with you longer and you don’t take it for granted. And this is one we’re not going to take for granted and we’re able to understand the meaning of it so much more. For that, I’m thankful.”

“You can’t ever give up. It doesn’t matter where you’re at. You’ve got to just try to go out there and win races. For all the things that have gone wrong for us this year, I still can’t believe what just happened. But, I think this is the one that makes up for all the ones that have gotten away. I’m just so proud of this team. They just never give up and they gave me a great race car today. To start 27th and only have one caution, and work our way all the way up there like that, is pretty awesome. We got a great restart and got into that inside lane ahead of Kasey (Kahne) and then I saw the No. 48 (Johnson) get sideways and somehow I just came out on the other end of it leading. So, I’m just so excited right now. I know that you don’t want to win them quite like this, but we’ve earned it because of all the things that we’ve done this year. We’ve been in position to win races and we were at the right place at the right time. We probably had something going our way. I just can’t thank Drive to End Hunger, and DuPont, and Pepsi and Quaker State and Chevrolet and everybody. This is a great moment. And I’ve got both of my kids and my wife here. This is just like the greatest moment.”

AS YOU CELEBRATE, TELL US WHAT IT MEANS TO GET THIS SIXTH VICTORY AT POCONO WITH EVERYBODY HERE TO SEE IT

“Oh gosh. It’s just an amazing day. I said to Alan Gustafson (crew chief) that miracles do happen. You start to lose confidence and doubt whether it’s going to happen. Our cars have been good and our team has been good. We just needed some things to go our way and boy did they go our way today. I hate that those guys got caught up in that spin and wreck or whatever happened there. It was slick on those restarts. I’ve got to say hi to Rick Hendrick; I know he’s not here. And we had a lot of pressure on us. All four Hendrick cars finally get into victory lane in one year. That’s awesome. That’s been a long time coming. I felt a lot of pressure because we hadn’t done it yet. So this feels good. It’s that little boost that we need to get through these next five races and don’t count us out, don’t count us out. This is a great moment. We needed this. And it’s awesome. It feels good and we’ll take it any way we can get it right now and we’re having a blast. And I’m going to enjoy it so much with these guys (family). Happy Birthday to Alan Gustafson! That is a birthday present right there!”

Brickyard 400 In-Car Audio

July 30, 2012 by admin 5043Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F07%2F30%2Fjeff-gordon-brickyard-400-in-car-audio-indianapolis-2012-nascar%2FBrickyard+400+In-Car+Audio2012-07-31+00%3A06%3A24adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5043

Jeff Gordon posted his fifth top-6 finish in the last six races with a 5th place effort in the Brickyard 400. However, after running 2nd to eventual race winner Jimmie Johnson during the mid-stages, Gordon fell to 7th following the final pit stop. He’ll need at least two victories in the next 6 races to qualify for the Chase for the Championship.

Gordon started 9th and moved to 7th by the end of the second lap. He moved to 6th with a pass on Joey Logano on lap 5. However, he complained of a tight handling condition entering the turns and dropped 5 seconds behind race leader Denny Hamlin. He moved to 5th on lap 12 when Carl Edwards slowed with an engine problem, and took 4th from Greg Biffle on lap 19. Gordon came to pit road for a four-tire change on lap 29 and returned to the race in 4th. The first caution waved on lap 40 when Travis Kvapil cut a tire and hit the wall. Gordon opted for two tires, but lost three positions on pit road and restarted 7th on lap 44. Gordon moved up to 5th before the next caution on lap 47 for Clint Bowyer’s spin into the infield grass. He took 4th from Dale Earnhardt Jr on lap 60, and moved to 3rd when Brad Keselowski came to pit road. Three laps later he took the runner-up spot from Greg Biffle.

Gordon closed in on race leader Jimmie Johnson and led 1 lap during a green flag pit stop sequence on lap 74. Following stops, he ran 3rd behind Keselowski and Johnson. Gordon again moved to 2nd on lap 90 following Keselowski’s pit stop. A caution for Casey Mears’ wall contact slowed the field on lap 94. Following pit stops, Gordon restarted in 5th on lap 99. He moved to 3rd shortly after the restart by passing Keselowski and Regan Smith. Gordon took 2nd from Kyle Busch on lap 110, but was more than 3 seconds behind Johnson for the race lead. A caution on lap 124 for Jeff Burton’s tire issue brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon lost four spots on pit road and restarted in 6th place. He dropped to 7th before getting around Ryan Newman with 29 to go. A caution with 28 laps to go slowed the field when Joey Logano spun and collected Matt Kenseth. On the restart with 20 laps to go, Gordon dropped to 8th as Newman and Martin Truex went by. However, he rebounded to pass Truex and Newman in the closing stages to take 5th place.

Turning point
Gordon was running in 2nd when the caution waved on lap 124. A brief problem on the right front caused Gordon to leave pit road in 6th place, thus removing any chance at a possible victory.

JG’s comments
“We had a car that could compete for the win. I think we were one of the only ones who could compete with the 48. Congratulations to Jimmie and Chad, and the whole Lowe’s team and Rick Hendrick. They’re that good and they deserved to be in Victory Lane today. They were the best team and they had a fast race car. We had as good of a race car if not better. We just could never get the track position, and when we did it was so hard to pass. Our car was awesome. We lost some track position and then the restarts I was starting on the outside both times — that definitely didn’t do us any favors. It was hard to pass. I can’t complain about it too much, just would’ve liked to have been up there battling with Jimmie, at least make it a little harder on him. My gosh, he had it pretty easy there at the end.”

ON HIS RACE:
“I don’t think we could have passed him (Jimmie Johnson). Those guys were definitely the class of the field today and had the track position. They’re a strong team. They deserve that win today. They did everything. Jimmie did his job on the track and the team did their job in the pits. And they had a good car.”

YOU CAME HERE TO WIN, BUT IS THERE ANY SATISFACTION IN FINISHING 5TH?

“I’m pretty disappointed really. It’s always nice to finish in the top five but at this point in the season, the way our season has gone with so many missed opportunities that we’ve had, I feel like it was a little bit of a missed opportunity today. We needed track position there at the end and we didn’t get it when it counted most and it cost us.”

TALK ABOUT THAT LAST PIT STOP. WAS THERE ANYTHING SPECIFICALLY THAT HAPPENED OR WAS IT JUST SLOW?

“I have no idea. I have to review it. The one thing about this pit road is that if you get a little bit behind, once you get up here, you’re way behind because they pull out in front of you and the next one pulls out in front of you and that’s what happened. We lost more than we should have but that wasn’t so bad. The worst thing was when you start on the outside lane; my car would just not go on that outside lane. And then they got all jumbled up and we lost even more spots. And then we had another caution on the outside lane again, so it just wasn’t our day.”

YOUR TEAMMATE DALE EARNHARDT JR. TOOK OVER THE POINT LEAD TODAY.

“I give them a lot of credit. It’s really awesome that they’re out front. They’ve been consistent and if they can keep that consistency up and maybe even take it up a notch when the Chase starts, they’re going to be a real threat for the championship. So, they’re running good. It’s good to see it. I’m happy to see it for Junior. I’m really happy to see it for (crew chief) Stevie (Letarte) and that whole team. They’ve put a lot of effort into it.”

WHERE DO YOU RANK YOUR CAR?

“I thought we were as good as or better than Jimmie (Johnson). We just never could get in front of him. That’s what it takes to win. You’ve got to get out front. Track position is very important here. We showed that we could run their pace, but we were always coming from behind.”

WHEN YOU FIRST MET JIMMIE JOHNSON, DID YOU THINK HE WOULD BE THIS GOOD?

“I knew he was special and talented. The type of equipment he was in [Herzog Motorsports] was not the best equipment out there. It was good equipment, but not the best. I knew if you took a guy who had worked that hard and has raced that long with his talents, and put him with a good team, that he’d be able to do something special. I had no idea he was going to do what he has done, that’s way beyond any of our imagination, including his. He’s a great guy and a great driver. He has a great team. They deserve it.”

YOU MADE UP A LOT OF SPOTS IN THE LAST HANDFUL OF LAPS. DO YOU THINK IF YOU HAD A RESTART A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE FRONT, THAT YOU WOULD HAVE AT LEAST FINISHED 2ND?

“I think we were a second-place car really, all day. We could pass everybody but Jimmie. That clean are is really important. So, yeah I think we were good enough to be second, but we weren’t going to pass Jimmie under green flag conditions.”

THE FANS CHEERED REALLY LOUD FOR YOU AT THE END OF THE RACE. WERE YOU HAPPY WITH THE CAR AT THE END OF THE RACE?

“I happy with the car. Other than the first run, I was happy with the car all day. Or, maybe the second run. We were a little bit too tight. We freed it up and from that point on, I thought we had the car to beat. We just never could never quite get that track position and get close enough to that No. 48 to try to make a pass on him. But it was a good solid day for us. You know I love this place.”

New Hampshire In-Car Audio

July 17, 2012 by admin 5017Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F07%2F17%2Fjeff-gordon-incar-audio-new-hampshire-in-car-audio-lenox-industrial-tools-301-nascar%2FNew+Hampshire+In-Car+Audio2012-07-17+04%3A31%3A08adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5017

Kasey Kahne held off a late charge by Denny Hamlin to claim his second win of the season and 14th of his career. Jeff Gordon posted his fourth top-6 finish in the last 5 races with a 6th place effort in the Lenox 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. However, Gordon remains 17th in the series standings and will need at least two victories to qualify for the Chase for the Championship.

Gordon started 8th and moved up to 6th by lap 10. He entered the top-5 with a pass on Martin Truex on lap 23, and took 4th from Clint Bowyer on lap 32. Gordon led 1 lap before coming to pit road during a green flag stop sequence on lap 68. He returned to the race in 3rd position due to then-race leader Kyle Busch’s pit road penalty. A debris caution on lap 89 slowed the field and brought nearly all of leaders to pit road — except for one. Gordon stayed on the track and assumed the race lead. However, Gordon chose the outside lane for the restart and lost the top spot to Denny Hamlin entering turn one. He dropped to 3rd when Jimmie Johnson passed on lap 109. By lap 130, he dropped to 4th place as skies began darkening for approaching rain showers. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 146. He returned to the race a lap down in 20th place due to staying out on the track during the earlier caution. As the race leaders began pitting a few laps later, Gordon moved up to 2nd place behind Hamlin.

Gordon battled handling issues in the mid-stages of the race and dropped to 4th on lap 168. Brad Keselowski went by on lap 186 to send Gordon back to 5th. A debris caution on lap 191 brought the lead lap cars to pit road and allowed Gordon to get back on the same pit sequence. Gordon restarted in 10th place after changing four tires. Gordon moved to 9th before a caution on lap 232. Gordon came to pit road for his final pit stop and restarted 7th. He dropped to 9th when Hamlin passed on lap 250. However, he made in-roads and moved back to 7th with 35 laps to go. With 19 laps to go, he took 6th from Kevin Harvick.

Turning point
Mid-race handling issues hindered Gordon’s ability to stay in the top-5. A four-tire change on the final pit stop lost track position.

JG’s comments

“It’s a great effort by the team, but definitely not what we were hoping for. This is a track I feel like we can win at. We just missed it. We just weren’t there. That first run, I thought, ‘wow, we really have something for them.’ But it’s so hard to pass and we kind of lost the handling on it. Yeah, it’s a 6th when you look at the rest of our season, that’s pretty good. But when you look at what we have to do over the next 7 races, it’s definitely not something we’re content with.”

NOT A BAD FINISH CONSIDERING YOU KIND OF TOOK A LONG WAY TO GET THERE?

“Yeah, I’m really disappointed in today. I don’t feel like that we had the car that we needed to be more competitive which I thought we could. When we got track position we weren’t able to maintain it. It was just a disappointing day when you look at what our goals are right now. We’ve got to be up there battling for wins if we are going to make this Chase and then get those wins. At the beginning I thought we were equally as good as anybody. I don’t know from that second run on it just went downhill.”

THE PIT STRATEGY YOU TALKED ABOUT YOU WERE IN A POSITION WHERE YOU CAN ROLL THE DICE IN SOME THINGS WAS THAT AN INDICATOR OF THAT TODAY?

“Yeah, I think Alan wanted to see what it was like in clean air. It was a risk. That is the position that we are in right now we’ve got to take those kinds of risks. It didn’t work out, but it wasn’t that bad. I think we feel back to third or fourth. We were still about where we were prior to that. I don’t know we just really didn’t keep up with the track. This tire, I tell you, Goodyear has got to go back to the drawing board. They came here with a new tire and it is not a very good tire. I think they know it. I’m hoping that they that they can come up with something a little bit better than this.”

July 8, 2012 by admin 49921 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F07%2F08%2Fjeff-gordon-daytona-coke-zero-400-in-car-audio-nascar%2FDaytona+In-Car+Audio2012-07-08+04%3A12%3A25adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D4992

Tony Stewart claimed the Coke Zero 400 victory with a late pass on Matt Kenseth. Stewart started at the rear of the field following a violation following qualifying, but made his way to the lead after the final restart with 2 laps to go. It was Stewart’s 47th career victory.

Jeff Gordon posted a 12th place finish after being involved in four different melees during the event. He started 5th and slipped back to 7th after the first lap on the inside line. He moved to the outside on lap 4 and worked in a draft with Juan Pablo Montoya. On lap 10, Gordon fell to 12th on the outside in a draft with his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne. Gordon dropped back to 21st on lap 16 in an effort to cool his engine. He re-entered the top-20 on lap 30. At the 100-mile mark, Gordon ran in 17th place. Following a round of green flag pit stops, Gordon moved up to 12th place. He continued to advance on the outside line and moved to 10th on lap 50. With Jimmie Johnson providing a drafting push, Gordon moved to 6th place on lap 55. However, he faded back by the 60-lap mark and ran in 17th place. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 12th place.

A caution for Sam Hornish’s spin on lap 81 slowed the field and brought the lead lap cars to pit road. Gordon opted for two tires and departed in 4th place. On the restart, Gordon moved up to 2nd behind Matt Kenseth. Kurt Busch’s crash on lap 90 brought out the second caution flag. Gordon settled into 3rd place behind Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle over the next 25 laps. However, Gordon wound up in the infield grass coming to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 125. Bill Elliott lost control and drilled Gordon in the left side, sending him into the infield grass. The caution waved as Johnson was caught up in the melee and slammed the inside wall. Gordon came to pit road four times during the caution flag for repairs on the left side of the car. He restarted in 30th place with 29 laps to go.

With 20 laps to go, Gordon moved up to run in 22nd place. A caution for Brad Keselowski’s spin slowed the field with 16 laps to go. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 19th place. With 8 laps to go, Denny Hamlin lost control and collected 15 cars in a turn one wreck. Gordon made his way through the carnage with damage on the left side of the car and a flat tire. He came to pit road and restarted in 15th place with 2 laps to go. Coming to the checkered flag, Gordon was caught up in a wreck ahead of him. He bounced off Travis Kvapil’s car and came across the line in 12th place.

Turning point
Gordon was running in 3rd place when he was wrecked coming onto pit road with 30 laps to go.

JG’s comments

ON THE PIT ROAD MELEE:

“We were just coming to pit road. I don’t know what happened behind me, but they just started wrecking and we got caught up in that. That definitely changed our day. We were in great position, fast race car, and pit stops were flawless. At that point it was about fixing the damage and getting track position. The damage – they did a great job. The car had plenty of speed, but there was just no passing when you were in the back for those final laps. Three lanes wide, you just had to wait until somebody wrecked or got out of shape and the momentum changed. We actually had a great run coming through turns 3 and 4, and we were going to be better than even 12th. We kind of got caught in that wreck too. We had some momentum coming so I think we could have finished 10th-12th. But we ended up 12th. Not a bad day considering all the things that happened.”

Jeff Gordon posted a 5th place finish in the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway. It was Gordon’s third consecutive top-10 effort — the first time he’s posted three straight top-10’s since October/November 2011.

Gordon started 9th and dropped to 17th by lap 10. However, he began gaining ground later in the run and moved up to 14th on lap 17. The first caution waved on lap 40 for Scott Riggs’ slow car with Gordon up to the 11th position. Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting in 10th place. He dropped back to 12th within 5 laps of the restart before moving forward. He re-entered the top-10 by lap 65. Green flag pit stops came just before the 100-lap mark with Gordon cycling through in 11th place. He once again entered the top-10 on lap 116 with a pass on Greg Biffle. The second caution waved on lap 126 for debris. Gordon came to pit road for a four tire change and exited in 13th place. On the restart, Gordon moved through traffic and ran 7th at the halfway point.

A caution for Dave Blaney’s engine on lap 150 slowed the field and brought pit stops. Gordon changed two tires and departed in 6th place. He moved into the top-5 on lap 157 and took 4th from Kyle Busch on lap 162. Dale Earnhardt Jr took 4th from Gordon on lap 195. Green flag pit stops came on lap 202 with Gordon cycling through in 5th place. Ryan Newman’s wall contact on lap 210 brought out the caution flag. Gordon came to pit road for tires and restarted in 8th place. Gordon moved up to 6th on lap 224, but dropped a spot to Martin Truex on lap 225. Kasey Kahne passed on lap 230 to drop Gordon back to 8th. As the laps wound down, Gordon made up spots and finished 5th. It was his second best finish of 2012.

Turning point
Gordon’s second best finish of the year was a solid night for the #24 team. Pit calls were mostly conservative except for a two-tire change on lap 150.

JG’s comments

DID THE CAR GO AWAY NEAR THE END OF THAT LAST RUN?

At the very last run it did, but we still actually were able to hold onto the guys. I think two tires were better for us than four. When we took four, prior to that, we just needed to make a little bit bigger adjustment. The car got really loose getting in the corner and it was pretty tough to hang onto at that point. But the track cooled down and it seemed like everybody got a little bit loose, especially getting into the corner. But we fought our way through. It was a pretty flawless night and I was excited that we came home with a fifth place finish, battling up front like we did.”

ON THE NEXT THREE TRACKS, DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN REEL OFF SOME WINS?

“Yeah, we’ve just got to keep going to the race track and putting the effort out that we’ve been putting out. This team has been awesome. The cars have definitely shown that; and lately we’ve been getting the results. So you can definitely put some momentum on that and we’ve got some great tracks that are coming. To get a top-five here at Kentucky, which is definitely one of my worst race tracks, I feel like; to come home with a top five tells you just how strong our cars are and our team is and what we’re capable of doing. So, Daytona is going to be its own beast, but from that point on I think we’ve got the opportunity to not only put top-five’s together, but also get some wins.”

A fuel mileage gamble in the mid-stages of the Save Mart 350 effectively ended Jeff Gordon’s chances for his first road course win since 2006. Gordon was running 3rd when he ran out of gas on the track. By the time the pit stops cycled through, he was back in 15th place. He rallied for a 6th place finish — the first time he’s posted back-to-back top-10’s since October/November 2011.

Gordon started on the outside of the front row and ran 2nd to Marcos Ambrose for the first 11 laps. Gordon took the lead from Ambrose in the esses and pulled away. He led until lap 25 when Clint Bowyer passed. However, during the sequence with the lead, Gordon led the 23,000th lap of his NASCAR career — good enough for 7th on the all-time list. Gordon slipped back to 5th place before a pit stop on lap 35. He cycled through the stops and ran in 6th place. He moved up to 4th by lap 50, but was distantly behind race lead Clint Bowyer due to the lack of caution flags. Gordon took 3rd place from Jimmie Johnson on lap 68.

After crew chief Alan Gustafson elected to keep Gordon on the track for an extra lap during a pit stop sequence, Gordon ran out of fuel on the track. He made it to pit road on lap 73, but fell to 15th in the running order due to the extended time getting to pit road. On lap 80, Gordon moved up to 13th with a pass on Carl Edwards. The first caution waved on lap 82 for Tomy Drissi’s crash. Gordon came to pit road to ensure he could make it to the finish on fuel. He restarted in 14th place and moved to 13th with 20 laps to go. Gordon took 12th from Matt Kenseth with 18 laps to go. Gordon entered the top-10 with 16 laps to go and moved to 8th around AJ Allmendinger with 13 to go. Gordon battled Martin Truex for 6th place before a caution with 4 laps to go. On the green/white/checkered restart, Gordon took 6th from Truex.

Turning point
Gordon was running 3rd when he ran out of fuel on the racetrack. Crew chief Alan Gustafson opted to keep the #24 car on the track for an extra lap to get into a fuel window. He crawled to pit road and dropped out of the top-10, thus ending any chance at a victory.

Dale Earnhardt Jr snapped a four-year winless skid with a victory in the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan Speedway. Jeff Gordon posted a 6th place finish, which was the 400th top-10 finish of his NASCAR Cup series career. Gordon became the second youngest driver to achieve the milestone. It was Gordon’s fifth top-6 finish at Michigan in the last seven races there.

Gordon started 26th and slowed to avoid Kurt Busch’s spinning car on lap 2. He restarted in 30th place on lap 5. The second caution waved on lap 10 for Josh Wise’s engine with Gordon advancing to 25th. He ran 26th when the competition caution came on lap 25. Gordon came to pit road for tires and held the 26th spot. He moved up to 24th by lap 40 and ran 21st when the competition caution slowed the field on lap 50. Gordon opted for two tires and restarted 17th on lap 54. He moved up to the 14th position within 5 laps of the restart, and ran 13th on lap 70. Two laps later he took the 12th spot from Jimmie Johnson and entered the top-10 on lap 80. A debris caution on lap 81 brought pit stops with Gordon again opting for two tires. He restarted in 4th place on lap 84 and held the spot past the halfway point of the race.

Gordon stayed out to lead a lap during a green flag pit stop sequence on lap 119. He came to the pits for a four-tire change on lap 120. Kurt Busch’s spin on lap 121 brought out the caution with Gordon inheriting the top spot. He lost the lead in turn one to Dale Earnhardt Jr after the restart before the caution waved for Joey Logano’s spin on the backstretch, which collected Kasey Kahne. Another caution for Denny Hamlin’s spin on lap 133 slowed the field. The green flag waved on lap 140 with Gordon dropping to 3rd behind Earnhardt Jr and Tony Stewart. Greg Biffle passed Gordon on lap 159 as the DuPont Chevrolet battled loose handling issues. He came to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 165 and cycled through in 6th place. As the laps wound down, Gordon was unable to make headway due to a blistered tire. He finished 6th and moved to 20th in the series points standings.

Turning point
Gordon battled for the race lead from lap 120-140, but battling handling issues in the closing stages. Blisters on the right side tires hindered his efforts to claim a top-5 finish.

Pocono In-Car Audio

June 10, 2012 by admin 4876Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F06%2F10%2Fjeff-gordon-in-car-audio-pocono-400-nascar%2FPocono+In-Car+Audio2012-06-10+22%3A21%3A31adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D4876

In hindsight, maybe it was better to stay out. Jeff Gordon was running 5th when a caution waved with 23 laps to go at Pocono Raceway. Realizing he was 3 laps short on fuel, crew chief Alan Gustafson opted to have Gordon pit. However, a litany of caution flags in the closing stages of the event ensured that drivers would be able to make it to the finish. Nevertheless, had it been a green flag run to the finish, Gordon would have run out of fuel. He finshed in 19th place and is 22nd in the series standings. Gordon has just 4 top-10 finishes in the last 17 races.

Gordon started 12th and was running ahead of a multi-car wreck on lap 1. Landon Cassill, Martin Truex, and AJ Allmendinger sustained damaged in an incident that began with Cassill’s spin in turn 3. On the restart, Gordon moved to 8th place on lap 6. He took 7th from Regan Smith with a pass in turn 3 on lap 10. The second caution waved on lap 13 for Reed Sorensen and JJ Yeley’s wall contact. Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting in 8th place. He dropped to 10th before rallying back to 7th by lap 30. Gordon came in for a green flag pit stop on lap 42 and was penalized for speeding entering pit road. Gordon came back to pit road for a pass-thru penalty and dropped to 23rd place. The third caution waved on lap 67 for AJ Allmendinger’s wall contact, which allowed Gordon to make up ground. He restarted 21st on lap 72 and moved back into the top-20 before a caution on lap 74. Gordon stayed on the track and moved up to 14th for the restart. He re-entered the top-10 on lap 88 with a pass on Clint Bowyer.

At the 100-lap mark, Gordon ran in 8th place. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 103. Gordon cycled through in 9th place and took 8th from Tony Stewart on lap 114. A debris caution on lap 123 slowed the field and brought the leaders to pit road for the final time. Gordon restarted in 11th place on lap 129. After the restart, Gordon moved up to 7th within two laps and took 5th from Kasey Kahne on lap 134. Kahne’s wall contact on lap 138 brought out the caution flag. Gordon came to pit road for fuel to ensure he could make it to the finish. He restarted 17th with 17 laps to go. However, he fell to 20th before a debris caution with 12 laps to go. He restarted in 18th place with 8 laps to go. Gordon dropped to 23rd with 5 laps to go and crossed the finish line in 19th place.

Turning point
Gordon was running 5th in the late stages but came to pit road for fuel on lap 139. In a turn of bad luck, Gordon likely would have been able to make it to the finish if he stayed out due to the number of caution laps in the final 30 laps of the race.

Dover In-Car Audio

June 4, 2012 by admin 48461 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F06%2F04%2Fjeff-gordon-dover-fedex-400-benefiting-autism-speaks-in-car-audio-nascar%2FDover+In-Car+Audio2012-06-04+04%3A51%3A23adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D4846

It looked as if Jeff Gordon has his best car at Dover International Speedway in more than 6 years. However, once again, a dose of bad luck cost him a legitimate shot at his 86th career victory. Gordon led 60 laps, but a loose left rear wheel after a pit stop doomed his chances as the laps wound down. Gordon finished 13th and lamented another lost opportunity.

Gordon started 14th and was running 13th on lap 9 when a major pileup occurred on the backstretch after Tony Stewart tapped Landon Cassill. More than 12 cars were collected in the melee. When the green flag waved, Gordon advanced into the top-10 on lap 15. By lap 30, Gordon moved up to the 7th position with a pass on Kevin Harvick. Gordon entered the top-5 on lap 56 after moving around Kyle Busch. Following a cycle of green flag pit stops, Gordon ran in 5th place. At the 100-lap mark, Gordon ran 3rd behind Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin. The second caution waved on lap 111 when David Reuttiman’s engine expired. Gordon departed pit road in 5th place, but moved back to 3rd by lap 135. He took the runner-up spot from Busch on lap 145. A caution for Carl Edwards’ wall contact on lap 163 slowed the field.

Gordon took the race lead from Johnson shortly after the halfway point. However, Gordon slowed on lap 245 and came to pit road three laps later for tires. A loose left wheel was the culprit that cost Gordon a lap. As green flag pit stops began, Gordon stayed on the track and re-assumed the top spot. He came to pit road with 75 laps to go for a four-tire change and returned to the event one lap down. A caution with 60 laps to go trapped Gordon a lap down. Gordon stayed on the track for the wave-around to get back on the lead lap. He restarted in 18th place with 55 to go. Kurt Busch’s blown engine and subsequent caution allowed Gordon to get fresh tires. Gordon moved to 16th with 46 to go and took 15th from AJ Allemdinger one lap later. Gordon was running 13th when the caution waved with 37 to go for Jeff Burton’s blown engine. He came to pit road for tires and restarted in 16th place.

* Gordon led more laps during the event than he had in the previous 11 races at Dover combined.

Turning point
While leading the race (and pulling away) on lap 245, Gordon experienced a loose wheel and needed a pit stop. Although he may have scored the win if the race went to the end without a caution, the yellow flag on lap 340 hindered his efforts.

JG’s comments
“We had the best race car. We’ve just been talking about this too many times this year. We cannot afford to make mistakes. We had the car to win the race and it’s unfortunate.. I’m just tired of the same old things — one thing or another getting us. The fastest car doesn’t always win the race. And we’re sitting here in 13th or whatever; it’s silly.”

AS BAD AS YOUR MISFORTUNE WAS, IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO WORK OUT AND YOU WOULD BENEFIT FROM IT

“Until that debris caution? Yeah, I can’t wait to see that debris on TV. I’d like to see it because I certainly never saw it. I’m not going to make any comments until I see what the reasoning for it was. I don’t know who you blame if there really wasn’t much out there because all the media has been talking about all week long is oh, there’s no cautions, there’s no cautions. It used to be debris cautions. So, who do you blame that on?”

IS IT FRUSTRATING BECAUSE YOU WERE IN THE LEAD AND THEN YOU HAD THE TIRE PROBLEM AND YOU WERE MAKING YOUR WAY BACK?

“Ultimately, we put ourselves in this position to get his finish. So, that’s very frustrating. We’ve had things out of our control this year. And I’m not really sure what happened. But obviously something happened. And then I don’t know what happened. But we definitely had a loose left rear. It didn’t go on right to begin with and the left-rear tire-changer (Chad Avrit) knew that. And so when I started to complain about it, we knew that there might be an issue there and there was. So, in some ways we got fortunate today. I could have stayed out there and wrecked because it wasn’t really vibrating. It was getting real loose.”

WERE RESTARTS AS CRITICAL AS THEY LOOKED?

“You know, it was the greasiest restarts that I’ve ever felt here. There was just zero-grip for the first three, four, or five laps. So you really couldn’t even race one another on a restart because you were so out of control. And there’s a lot of rubber laid down on the race track and then the way the rubber on the tires matched up to it after you got going there was horrendous. Other than that, the tire was awesome. I really liked it. We ran great with it and the restarts were definitely hairy.”

YOU’VE HAD SO MANY FRUSTRATING MOMENTS THIS SEASON. DOES THIS ONE TAKE THE CAKE? OR HAVE YOU JUST HAD SO MUCH CAKE THAT IT’S ALL THE SAME?

“It’s always more frustrating when you’ve got a car that can win; and you show it by going up there and taking the lead. We don’t care about finishing top 15 or top 10 right now. That does nothing for us. We need wins.”

Gordon started 23rd and moved to 16th by lap 10. He took 13th from AJ Allmendinger on lap 13 as his forward march continued. He entered the top-10 on lap 24 with a pass on Kevin Harvick, and then took 8th from Denny Hamlin on lap 35. Green flag pit stops came on lap 47 with Gordon cycling through in 9th place. He moved up to 8th before the next round of green flag stops on lap 90. The first caution waved on lap 112 for debris. Pit stops followed with Gordon restarting in 11th place. However, he slid back to 15th within a lap before regrouping. On lap 130, Gordon ran in 12th place before a debris caution slowed the field. Gordon stayed on the track and inherited the lead. He dropped to 4th within a lap of the restart, but held the position before coming to pit road on lap 167. A caution on lap 170 resulted in Gordon being a lap down. However, he stayed on the the track for the free pass to get back on the lead lap.

Gordon restarted 24th and worked back to 15th by the halfway point. With 100 to go, Gordon ran in 6th place. He slipped to 9th with 50 to go, but took 8th from Carl Edwards with 23 to go. He made a late pass on Harvick to take 7th and score his best finish since Texas — a span of 5 races. Gordon moved from 24th to 22nd in the series standings.

Turning point
Gordon’s car seemed best during the dusk hours. As darkness enveloped the track, Gordon battled handling issues and was unable to make a serious charge toward the front.
