September 17, 2012 by admin 52451 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F09%2F17%2Fjeff-gordon-chicago-geico-400-in-car-audio-nascar%2FChicago+In-Car+Audio2012-09-18+01%3A11%3A56adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5245

For the first half of the Geico 400, it looked as if Jeff Gordon was ready to make a loud statement as a contender for the 2012 Sprint Cup. He was running as high as 3rd place during the race. However, a stuck throttle on lap 188 sent him into the wall and clouded his title hopes going forward.

Gordon started 19th and moved up to 13th by lap 10. He entered the top-10 on lap 23 with a pass on Carl Edwards. He pitted under green on lap 46 and cycled through in 6th place due to a sub-12 second pit stop. He fell to 7th before a debris caution on lap 67. Gordon opted for two tires and departed in 5th place. He moved to 4th on lap 77, but fell back to 5th when Kyle Busch passed on lap 91. His slide back continued as Brad Keslowski and Mark Martin took spots from Gordon on lap 98. A debris caution on lap 100 brought the field to pit road. Gordon exited in 10th place after opting for four tires. He slipped back on the restart, but rallied back to 9th on lap 125. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 7th place.

Casey Mears’ wall contact on lap 149 came in the middle of a green flag pit stop sequence. Gordon had yet to pit and moved up to 4th place. He came in under caution for tires and restarted in 4th. He dropped to 5th when Ryan Newman went by shortly after the restart, but re-took the spot from Newman on lap 167. However, on lap 188 Gordon slammed the turn 1 wall after the throttle stuck. He brought the DuPont Chevrolet to pit road with heavy right side damage and pulled into the garage. He was credited with a 35th place finish — his worst effort since Darlington Raceway in May.

Turning point
A stuck throttle on lap 188 sent Gordon into the wall and ended his day. The incident puts him in a major hole in the Chase standings.

JG’s comments
“I’m fine. We were having a good day. The guys did an awesome job in the pits and tuning on the car in the top-5. Who knows what we could have done with them at the end. But we had a throttle stick. It didn’t stick wide open. I let off the throttle and it just didn’t come all the way back. It was probably about half throttle which is still enough to do a lot of damage. We’re looking at what could have caused that — something in the return spring. In this (Chase), you can’t afford to have issues like that.”

Richmond In-Car Audio

September 9, 2012 by admin 5220Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F09%2F09%2Fjeff-gordon-federated-auto-parts-400-richmond-in-car-audio-nascar%2FRichmond+In-Car+Audio2012-09-09+19%3A37%3A42adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5220

After 150 laps at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday night, Jeff Gordon exited his car during the rain delay dejected at the performance of the #24 Chevrolet. Broadcasters and media pundits began shoveling dirt on his chances to qualify for the NASCAR Chase. But, there’s a reason why the pundits hold a microphone (or laptop) instead of a steering wheel. When racing resumed, crew chief Alan Gustafson gave the four-time NASCAR champion a winning car. He drove through the field, got back on the lead lap, and finished 2nd in the race. Coupled with Kyle Busch’s sub-par effort, Gordon gained the final Chase wildcard spot by a mere 2 points.

After rain showers pushed back the start of the race nearly 2 hours, Gordon started on the outside and the front row and moved to the lead on the backstretch. He quickly lost the top spot to Dale Earnhardt Jr. Clint Bowyer took 2nd from Gordon on lap 10. Denny Hamlin took 3rd from Gordon on lap 12. He slipped to 5th when Martin Truex passed on lap 18, and fell back to 6th when Jimmie Johnson went by one lap later. Gordon ran 7th at the competition caution on lap 46. Chassis adjustments followed on pit road and Gordon restarted in 16th place. David Ragan’s spin brought out the caution on lap 52. Gordon fell back to 19th on lap 62, but regrouped back to 17th by lap 75. At the 90-lap mark, Gordon had advanced to the 16th position. However, he dropped to 18th after complaining of a brake issue by lap 100.

Gordon went a lap down on lap 128 when race leader Denny Hamlin went by. The caution waved on lap 135 for rain. Pit stops followed and the #24 team made chassis adjustments. Gordon returned to the event in 26th place, and remained a lap down. Rain became heavier and the race was red flagged for nearly an hour. The event resumed just before midnight eastern time. Gordon moved up to 21st by lap 175 and moved into the top-20 on lap 177. However, he was unable to gain ground in the hopes of becoming the first car one lap down. Green flag pit stops came on lap 220 with Gordon cycling through in 23rd place. A caution for Clint Bowyer’s spin on lap 235 saved Gordon from going a second lap down. Following a stop, Gordon ran down and passed Carl Edwards for 17th place on lap 245, which put him in position for the free pass at the next caution. He got the needed caution on lap 275 for a brief rain shower to get back on the lead lap. Gordon changed tires and restarted in 17th place. With 100 laps to go, Gordon had advanced into the top-10. He moved to 9th three laps later, and took 8th place with 90 laps to go. With 80 to go, he had advanced into the top-5. Gordon moved to 4th with 70 to go and went by Kyle Busch who was lapped. He fell to 5th when Hamlin passed with 60 to go. He came to pit road for a green flag pit stop with 40 laps to go. He returned to the event in 11th place and moved up to 8th within 10 laps. With 25 to go, he was running 8th while Kyle Busch was holding onto 18th. With 20 to go, he took 5th from Brad Keselowski to pull into the final Chase wildcard spot. With 7 to go, Gordon took 2nd from Mark Martin.

Turning point
It was a tale of two races for Gordon — before the rain delay and after the rain delay. After struggling with handling in the first 150 laps, the crew made large-scale adjustments to the suspension on the #24 car. Gordon’s car came to life in the second half of the event, which punched his ticket into the Chase for the Championship.

JG’s comments
“I’m so fired up to get this Chase started, I don’t care where we’re going to start in points. I went from last week being the most disappointed I’ve ever been to finish 2nd to the most excited I’ve ever been to finish 2nd. Alan is such a great crew chief. He never gave up, he kept me fired up. We made this car good enough to go up there. If we put that kind of effort like we put tonight, I don’t see any reason why we can’t be a real threat for the championship.”

“What an exhausting race. So much pressure on us I thought that the weekend had gone so well for our team. When they dropped the green we got the lead and I knew that the drive off just wasn’t there that we were in trouble. Man we started going backwards, but Alan Gustafson, what an awesome crew chief to make the calls that he and our engineers made to fix this car. Thank our teammates as well because they had good race cars gave us some good notes to go off of. We made some drastic changes and man did it bring the car to life. We were a lap down, we just never gave up. That is just an awesome effort. That is what the Chase and the Wild Card is all about right there. You want it to come down to the final laps at Richmond. I have been predicting this for weeks that it is going to come down to it, I just didn’t know if we were going to be able to pull it off. Thanks to all the fans for supporting us through all of this frustration that we have been through this year, now let’s go win us this championship. After that effort we can definitely do this thing.”

As Jeff Gordon pulled closer to Denny Hamlin on the final lap at Atlanta Motor Speedway, he opted for the high line in turn 3. Hamlin held low and finished ahead of Gordon for his second consecutive victory. Gordon, needing a win to qualify for the NASCAR Chase, lamented the lost opportunity. “I guess I’m getting soft in my old age,” Gordon said. “I’m too nice. Fifteen years ago, I would’ve moved him up the racetrack.”

Gordon started 5th and moved up to 3rd by the end of lap 5. He took 2nd from Greg Biffle on lap 7 and moved past Tony Stewart for the race lead on lap 9. Kyle Busch passed Gordon on lap 16 to take the top spot. Denny Hamlin went by on lap 18 as Gordon battled a loose handling condition. The first caution waved on lap 40 for Aric Almirola. Pit stops followed with Gordon departing in 7th place. He moved back into the top-5 by lap 50, but was unable to make further headway. He came to pit road on lap 84 for a green flag pit stop. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 130. Gordon lost a spot on pit road and restarted in 6th place. However, Gordon was forced to back off due to traffic and fell to 14th on lap 140. He regrouped and moved back up to 12th by lap 150. He re-entered the top-10 on lap 158 with a pass on Ryan Newman.

After falling to 14th following a green flag pit stop sequence, Gordon worked his way back to the top-10 on lap 190. With 100 laps to go, Gordon was in 8th and battling a loose handling car. A caution with 83 laps to go for Juan Pablo Montoya’s wall contact brought the lead lap cars to pit road. Gordon departed pit road in 11th place. He took 10th from Sam Hornish with 73 laps to go, and moved up to 8th three laps later. A caution for Carl Edwards’ engine with 68 laps to go brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon exited pit road in 7th and was running ahead of a crash on the backstretch. Jimmie Johnson was turned sideways and collected Ryan Newman with 58 laps to go. Gordon came to pit road for tires and restarted in 8th place. He quickly moved into the top-5 and took 4th from Kyle Busch with 42 laps to go.

Gordon moved to 3rd with 40 laps to go with a pass on Brad Keselowski. Six laps later he took the runner-up spot from Denny Hamlin. He began closing on Martin Truex as the laps wound down. Jamie McMurray’s wall contact with 4 laps to go brought out the caution. Pit stops followed with Gordon losing a position going from 2nd to 3rd for the green/white/checkered restart. Gordon moved up to 2nd and tried the high line to get around Hamlin entering turn 3. Hamlin held the bottom line and went on to score the victory.

Barring a victory by a wildcard contender at Richmond, Gordon will need to finish 13 spots ahead of Kyle Busch to claim the final spot in the NASCAR Chase.

Turning point

Gordon was running 2nd in the closing stages when a caution for Jamie McMurray’s wall contact brought the caution. Gordon came to pit road and departed in 3rd place, setting up the dramatic final lap to the finish.

Bristol In-Car Audio

August 26, 2012 by admin 5143Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F08%2F26%2Fjeff-gordon-bristol-irwin-tools-night-race-in-car-audio-nascar%2FBristol+In-Car+Audio2012-08-26+16%3A51%3A36adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5143

It wasn’t a victory, but Jeff Gordon’s 3rd place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway moved him closer to Kyle Busch for the final NASCAR Chase wildcard spot. It was Gordon’s 7th top-6 finish in the last 10 races.

Gordon started 11th and moved to 8th by the end of lap 5. The first caution waved on lap 10 for Ken Schrader’s crash following contact from Jason Leffler. Gordon moved up to 6th shortly after the restart and held the position for the next 30 laps. He moved into the top-5 with a pass on Casey Mears on lap 49. He fell to 6th when Kasey Kahne passed on lap 55, and slipped to 8th by lap 75. A debris caution on lap 82 slowed the field and brought pit stops with Gordon back in 10th place. Gordon took four tires and restarted in 15th place. He dropped to 17th before the next caution for Sam Hornish’s wall contact on lap 122. Adjustments followed with Gordon restarting in 18th. He moved to 15th by lap 140, and ran in 13th when the caution waved for David Ragan’s spin on lap 149. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 4th place. He moved to 2nd on the restart, but dropped to 3rd when Brian Vickers passed on lap 176.

Ryan Newman’s wreck on lap 190 brought out the caution. Gordon came to pit road and restarted in 15th place. He was unable to move forward before the next caution for Aric Almirola’s wall contact on lap 223. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 8th place. At the halfway point, he ran in 5th place. Gordon took 4th on lap 255 before a caution for Brad Keselowski’s spin on lap 270. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 2nd place alongside Jimmie Johnson. A caution on lap 322 brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon beat Johnson off pit road and restarted in 8th place — behind the cars that stayed on the track. He moved up to 3rd when Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart crashed while racing for the lead.

However, Gordon fell to 10th on lap 346 after getting into oil from Dave Blaney’s car before a caution flag. Gordon opted for fuel only to ensure he could make it to the finish. He dropped to 14th on lap 360 and moved to 12th before a caution for Casey Mears on lap 412. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 5th place with 80 laps to go. He slipped to 8th before the next caution with 76 laps to go. Gordon moved to 6th with 67 laps to go before the next caution for Danica Patrick’s crash following contact from Regan Smith. With 45 laps to go, he took 4th when Brian Vickers slid backwards while trying to take the race lead from Carl Edwards. Gordon moved to 3rd with 33 laps to go and trailed Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson for the lead. He came across the line in 3rd — distantly behind race winner Hamlin.

Turning point
Gordon never led the event but used pit strategy and caution laps to ensure he had enough fuel to make it to the finish with a solid effort

Michigan In-Car Audio

August 19, 2012 by admin 5118Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F08%2F19%2Fjeff-gordon-michigan-pure-michigan-400-in-car-audio-nascar-2012%2FMichigan+In-Car+Audio2012-08-20+00%3A54%3A21adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5118

Jeff Gordon’s chances for the NASCAR Chase now come down to a victory at either Bristol, Atlanta, or Richmond — while a handful of other drivers remain on a single win in 2012. A valve spring problem relegated Gordon to a 28th place finish at Michigan Speedway. After 10 consecutive top-20 finishes from Charlotte in May to Pocono in August, Gordon has now posted back-to-back sub-20th place efforts.

Gordon started 9th and dropped to 13th by the end of the first lap. His slide continued as he fell to 16th on lap 5 while battling a loose handling condition. The first caution waved on lap 6 for David Gilliland’s spin. As the tire wore in, Gordon moved to 12th on lap 15. He entered the top-10 on lap 22 with a pass on Ryan Newman. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 36. He held the 10th position until Jimmie Johnson went by on lap 64. One lap later, the race leader Mark Martin was eliminated in a crash that started when Bobby Labonte spun off turn four. Both Martin and Kasey Kahne spun toward the infield, with Martin making hard contact with the pit wall. Gordon came to pit road in 9th and departed in 11th place after taking four tires. Gordon dropped to 15th before the next caution on lap 77 when Marcos Ambrose hit Regan Smith in turn 4. The next caution waved for Joey Logano’s wall contact on lap 89 with Gordon holding the 15th position.

Gordon came to pit road and restarted in 25th position. However, he dropped off the pace on lap 94 due to an engine issue. He pulled the #24 car into the garage on lap 98 with a valve spring problem. He returned to the race on lap 135 while running on 7 cylinders and finished 28th.

After two races and two test sessions at Michigan in 2012, Gordon’s best moment in the state this year might have been the meeting with Nena at the Jackson County Airport.

Turning point
Just before the halfway point, Gordon dropped off the pace with a valve spring problem. It was his first engine issue since the season-opening Daytona 500.

JG’s comments
“It was a valve spring, just running along there and all of a sudden dropped a cylinder. I was pretty sure that’s what it was. Of course the #14 had that same issue got our fingers crossed for all the other Hendrick engines out there. This is a tough place on engines. We rarely have these issues and it’s unfortunate to have this one here today. It’s the kind of year we have been having. I was hoping after Pocono we could carry some momentum and not have these kinds of back-to-back weekends, but that’s not the case. We go on to Bristol and fight hard there.”

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE ON THE MOTOR? “It’s something that when you come to Michigan and you turn these kinds of sustained rpm’s on this fast of a track, it’s always of concern here. And that bit us. We’ve been having a rough weekend. We’re not handling the way we were hoping to. Track position is so important that all we had to do was get track position and we still could have come out of here with a good finish and even won the race. There’s a lot of laps left and it’s unfortunate we don’t get to find out what we could do with it. It’s the kind of year we’ve been having. We’ll just go on to Bristol.”

IT SOUNDED LIKE YOU HAD SOME ISSUES WITH DALE EARNHARDT JR. EARLIER IN THE RACE
“WWell he took me four-wide and that wasn’t that big of a deal but then he slid up in front of me off of Turn 2 and I had to check up or I would have wrecked all of us. So, I just didn’t think that it was the smartest thing to do, especially as teammates. But, he chose to do it and that’s fine. It all worked out. I don’t care who I’m racing out there; I’m going to show my displeasure if I’m not happy about something. But that one was pretty close; but no big deal. I’m glad to see he’s running good. Those guys have really got their car dialed-in here at Michigan this year.”

Watkins Glen In-Car Audio

August 12, 2012 by admin 5102Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F08%2F12%2Fwatkins-glen-finger-lakes-355-in-car-audio-nascar%2FWatkins+Glen+In-Car+Audio2012-08-12+21%3A13%3A05adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5102

Marcos Ambrose took his second career win — and second in a row at Watkins Glen — with a victory in the Finger Lakes 355k. Ambrose took the lead from Brad Keselowski in turn 5, after Keselowski had bumped Kyle Busch from the lead in the esses. Jeff Gordon’s day took a negative turn on the final lap where he spun in oil and finished 21st.

Gordon started 12th and moved into the top-10 on lap 3. He moved to 8th on lap 9 and closed in on Ryan Newman for 7th place. After battling loose handling, Gordon came in for a green flag pit stop on lap 23. The first caution waved on lap 25 for Jamie McMurray’s blown tire and subsequent contact with the guard rail. Due to the earlier stop, Gordon stayed on the track and moved up to 4th place for the restart. The handling began going away and Gordon dropped to 6th on lap 35. His descent continued as he fell to 8th on lap 37, and dropped to 10th on lap 38. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 41. Gordon moved from 29th up to 16th before a caution for Denny Hamlin’s blown engine on lap 59.

Gordon came to pit road for chassis adjustments and restarted in 18th. A caution for Jason Leffler’s engine with 26 to go slowed the field. Tony Stewart’s spin into the pit road guard rail brought out the caution with 20 to go. With 12 laps to go, Gordon moved up to 16th place. With 5 to go, he took 11th place from Martin Truex. Two laps later he moved into the top-10 with a pass on Paul Menard. However, he spun going for 9th place on the final lap and fell to 21st. Gordon is now out of the Chase wildcard spot, trailing Ryan Newman by 10 points, as well as Kyle Busch.

Turning point
After battling into the top-10 in the closing stages, Gordon spun on the final corner of the race and dropped to 21st.

JG’s comments

“Oil all over the racetrack. It’s pretty ridiculous that they don’t want to end a race under caution and put that many cars in jeopardy. I had no idea there was oil out there. I knew there was all kinds of havoc happening all around. I’m pretty bummed out right now. We didn’t have the day I thought we were going to have. I thought our car was a lot better than that. We started pretty good, but I knew something wasn’t right. We tried to make an adjustment and didn’t go the right way — went backwards. Alan and the guys made some adjustments during the last stop. We weren’t good on the restart, but man did it come on. We were passing cars left and right, I was having a blast. To work that hard all day long, to come all the way from way back to the top-10 and have it taken away because they didn’t want to throw a caution is pretty disappointing. I jumped out there to the outside of Matt Kenseth. I think he could see the oil because he just gave it to me. I went out there and there was no grip, it just came around.”

Jeff Gordon snatched the lead on a restart shortly before a downpour stopped the Pennsylvania 400, giving him his 86th career win and 6th victory at Pocono. Gordon also moved into the second wildcard spot for the Chase for the Championship.

After the start was delayed nearly two hours due to rain, Gordon started 27th and moved up to 23rd by the end of lap 2. He entered the top-20 on lap 8 and ran 17th when the caution waved for Kyle Busch’s crash on lap 20. Gordon restarted 17th on lap 23 and moved to 15th within five laps. His forward charge continued as he moved into the top-10 on lap 33. At the 100-mile mark, Gordon moved to 8th place. He came to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 49 and cycled through in 10th place. He moved back up to 8th place by lap 60 as the tires wore in. Gordon moved to 5th on lap 63, but was more than 16 seconds behind race leader Jimmie Johnson. He came in for a green flag pit stop on lap 78 and returned to the race in 7th place with rain bearing down on the track.

Kurt Busch’s wreck on lap 86 following a cut tire brought out the caution flag. Gordon stayed on the track and moved up to 6th place when Mark Martin pitted. On the restart, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson made contact in turn one, which forced several in the top-5 to slow. Gordon held his line on the track and moved into the race lead. Heavy rain soon followed and NASCAR red-flagged the event. Less than 10 minutes later, the race was made official on lap 98 with Gordon declared as the winner.

Turning point
Gordon cooly moved low on the track to avoid the melee in turn one when Johnson got loose under Kenseth, which forced others in the top-5 to slow down.

JG’s comments

VICTORY LANE….

“Life can’t much better than it is right now. I’m looking forward to savoring this moment. Because that’s the nice thing about not winning. When you’re not winning much, lemme tell ya, you appreciate it a whole lot more and it sticks with you longer and you don’t take it for granted. And this is one we’re not going to take for granted and we’re able to understand the meaning of it so much more. For that, I’m thankful.”

“You can’t ever give up. It doesn’t matter where you’re at. You’ve got to just try to go out there and win races. For all the things that have gone wrong for us this year, I still can’t believe what just happened. But, I think this is the one that makes up for all the ones that have gotten away. I’m just so proud of this team. They just never give up and they gave me a great race car today. To start 27th and only have one caution, and work our way all the way up there like that, is pretty awesome. We got a great restart and got into that inside lane ahead of Kasey (Kahne) and then I saw the No. 48 (Johnson) get sideways and somehow I just came out on the other end of it leading. So, I’m just so excited right now. I know that you don’t want to win them quite like this, but we’ve earned it because of all the things that we’ve done this year. We’ve been in position to win races and we were at the right place at the right time. We probably had something going our way. I just can’t thank Drive to End Hunger, and DuPont, and Pepsi and Quaker State and Chevrolet and everybody. This is a great moment. And I’ve got both of my kids and my wife here. This is just like the greatest moment.”

AS YOU CELEBRATE, TELL US WHAT IT MEANS TO GET THIS SIXTH VICTORY AT POCONO WITH EVERYBODY HERE TO SEE IT

“Oh gosh. It’s just an amazing day. I said to Alan Gustafson (crew chief) that miracles do happen. You start to lose confidence and doubt whether it’s going to happen. Our cars have been good and our team has been good. We just needed some things to go our way and boy did they go our way today. I hate that those guys got caught up in that spin and wreck or whatever happened there. It was slick on those restarts. I’ve got to say hi to Rick Hendrick; I know he’s not here. And we had a lot of pressure on us. All four Hendrick cars finally get into victory lane in one year. That’s awesome. That’s been a long time coming. I felt a lot of pressure because we hadn’t done it yet. So this feels good. It’s that little boost that we need to get through these next five races and don’t count us out, don’t count us out. This is a great moment. We needed this. And it’s awesome. It feels good and we’ll take it any way we can get it right now and we’re having a blast. And I’m going to enjoy it so much with these guys (family). Happy Birthday to Alan Gustafson! That is a birthday present right there!”

Brickyard 400 In-Car Audio

July 30, 2012 by admin 5043Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F07%2F30%2Fjeff-gordon-brickyard-400-in-car-audio-indianapolis-2012-nascar%2FBrickyard+400+In-Car+Audio2012-07-31+00%3A06%3A24adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D5043

Jeff Gordon posted his fifth top-6 finish in the last six races with a 5th place effort in the Brickyard 400. However, after running 2nd to eventual race winner Jimmie Johnson during the mid-stages, Gordon fell to 7th following the final pit stop. He’ll need at least two victories in the next 6 races to qualify for the Chase for the Championship.

Gordon started 9th and moved to 7th by the end of the second lap. He moved to 6th with a pass on Joey Logano on lap 5. However, he complained of a tight handling condition entering the turns and dropped 5 seconds behind race leader Denny Hamlin. He moved to 5th on lap 12 when Carl Edwards slowed with an engine problem, and took 4th from Greg Biffle on lap 19. Gordon came to pit road for a four-tire change on lap 29 and returned to the race in 4th. The first caution waved on lap 40 when Travis Kvapil cut a tire and hit the wall. Gordon opted for two tires, but lost three positions on pit road and restarted 7th on lap 44. Gordon moved up to 5th before the next caution on lap 47 for Clint Bowyer’s spin into the infield grass. He took 4th from Dale Earnhardt Jr on lap 60, and moved to 3rd when Brad Keselowski came to pit road. Three laps later he took the runner-up spot from Greg Biffle.

Gordon closed in on race leader Jimmie Johnson and led 1 lap during a green flag pit stop sequence on lap 74. Following stops, he ran 3rd behind Keselowski and Johnson. Gordon again moved to 2nd on lap 90 following Keselowski’s pit stop. A caution for Casey Mears’ wall contact slowed the field on lap 94. Following pit stops, Gordon restarted in 5th on lap 99. He moved to 3rd shortly after the restart by passing Keselowski and Regan Smith. Gordon took 2nd from Kyle Busch on lap 110, but was more than 3 seconds behind Johnson for the race lead. A caution on lap 124 for Jeff Burton’s tire issue brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon lost four spots on pit road and restarted in 6th place. He dropped to 7th before getting around Ryan Newman with 29 to go. A caution with 28 laps to go slowed the field when Joey Logano spun and collected Matt Kenseth. On the restart with 20 laps to go, Gordon dropped to 8th as Newman and Martin Truex went by. However, he rebounded to pass Truex and Newman in the closing stages to take 5th place.

Turning point
Gordon was running in 2nd when the caution waved on lap 124. A brief problem on the right front caused Gordon to leave pit road in 6th place, thus removing any chance at a possible victory.

JG’s comments
“We had a car that could compete for the win. I think we were one of the only ones who could compete with the 48. Congratulations to Jimmie and Chad, and the whole Lowe’s team and Rick Hendrick. They’re that good and they deserved to be in Victory Lane today. They were the best team and they had a fast race car. We had as good of a race car if not better. We just could never get the track position, and when we did it was so hard to pass. Our car was awesome. We lost some track position and then the restarts I was starting on the outside both times — that definitely didn’t do us any favors. It was hard to pass. I can’t complain about it too much, just would’ve liked to have been up there battling with Jimmie, at least make it a little harder on him. My gosh, he had it pretty easy there at the end.”

ON HIS RACE:
“I don’t think we could have passed him (Jimmie Johnson). Those guys were definitely the class of the field today and had the track position. They’re a strong team. They deserve that win today. They did everything. Jimmie did his job on the track and the team did their job in the pits. And they had a good car.”

YOU CAME HERE TO WIN, BUT IS THERE ANY SATISFACTION IN FINISHING 5TH?

“I’m pretty disappointed really. It’s always nice to finish in the top five but at this point in the season, the way our season has gone with so many missed opportunities that we’ve had, I feel like it was a little bit of a missed opportunity today. We needed track position there at the end and we didn’t get it when it counted most and it cost us.”

TALK ABOUT THAT LAST PIT STOP. WAS THERE ANYTHING SPECIFICALLY THAT HAPPENED OR WAS IT JUST SLOW?

“I have no idea. I have to review it. The one thing about this pit road is that if you get a little bit behind, once you get up here, you’re way behind because they pull out in front of you and the next one pulls out in front of you and that’s what happened. We lost more than we should have but that wasn’t so bad. The worst thing was when you start on the outside lane; my car would just not go on that outside lane. And then they got all jumbled up and we lost even more spots. And then we had another caution on the outside lane again, so it just wasn’t our day.”

YOUR TEAMMATE DALE EARNHARDT JR. TOOK OVER THE POINT LEAD TODAY.

“I give them a lot of credit. It’s really awesome that they’re out front. They’ve been consistent and if they can keep that consistency up and maybe even take it up a notch when the Chase starts, they’re going to be a real threat for the championship. So, they’re running good. It’s good to see it. I’m happy to see it for Junior. I’m really happy to see it for (crew chief) Stevie (Letarte) and that whole team. They’ve put a lot of effort into it.”

WHERE DO YOU RANK YOUR CAR?

“I thought we were as good as or better than Jimmie (Johnson). We just never could get in front of him. That’s what it takes to win. You’ve got to get out front. Track position is very important here. We showed that we could run their pace, but we were always coming from behind.”

WHEN YOU FIRST MET JIMMIE JOHNSON, DID YOU THINK HE WOULD BE THIS GOOD?

“I knew he was special and talented. The type of equipment he was in [Herzog Motorsports] was not the best equipment out there. It was good equipment, but not the best. I knew if you took a guy who had worked that hard and has raced that long with his talents, and put him with a good team, that he’d be able to do something special. I had no idea he was going to do what he has done, that’s way beyond any of our imagination, including his. He’s a great guy and a great driver. He has a great team. They deserve it.”

YOU MADE UP A LOT OF SPOTS IN THE LAST HANDFUL OF LAPS. DO YOU THINK IF YOU HAD A RESTART A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE FRONT, THAT YOU WOULD HAVE AT LEAST FINISHED 2ND?

“I think we were a second-place car really, all day. We could pass everybody but Jimmie. That clean are is really important. So, yeah I think we were good enough to be second, but we weren’t going to pass Jimmie under green flag conditions.”

THE FANS CHEERED REALLY LOUD FOR YOU AT THE END OF THE RACE. WERE YOU HAPPY WITH THE CAR AT THE END OF THE RACE?

“I happy with the car. Other than the first run, I was happy with the car all day. Or, maybe the second run. We were a little bit too tight. We freed it up and from that point on, I thought we had the car to beat. We just never could never quite get that track position and get close enough to that No. 48 to try to make a pass on him. But it was a good solid day for us. You know I love this place.”

New Hampshire In-Car Audio

Kasey Kahne held off a late charge by Denny Hamlin to claim his second win of the season and 14th of his career. Jeff Gordon posted his fourth top-6 finish in the last 5 races with a 6th place effort in the Lenox 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. However, Gordon remains 17th in the series standings and will need at least two victories to qualify for the Chase for the Championship.

Gordon started 8th and moved up to 6th by lap 10. He entered the top-5 with a pass on Martin Truex on lap 23, and took 4th from Clint Bowyer on lap 32. Gordon led 1 lap before coming to pit road during a green flag stop sequence on lap 68. He returned to the race in 3rd position due to then-race leader Kyle Busch’s pit road penalty. A debris caution on lap 89 slowed the field and brought nearly all of leaders to pit road — except for one. Gordon stayed on the track and assumed the race lead. However, Gordon chose the outside lane for the restart and lost the top spot to Denny Hamlin entering turn one. He dropped to 3rd when Jimmie Johnson passed on lap 109. By lap 130, he dropped to 4th place as skies began darkening for approaching rain showers. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 146. He returned to the race a lap down in 20th place due to staying out on the track during the earlier caution. As the race leaders began pitting a few laps later, Gordon moved up to 2nd place behind Hamlin.

Gordon battled handling issues in the mid-stages of the race and dropped to 4th on lap 168. Brad Keselowski went by on lap 186 to send Gordon back to 5th. A debris caution on lap 191 brought the lead lap cars to pit road and allowed Gordon to get back on the same pit sequence. Gordon restarted in 10th place after changing four tires. Gordon moved to 9th before a caution on lap 232. Gordon came to pit road for his final pit stop and restarted 7th. He dropped to 9th when Hamlin passed on lap 250. However, he made in-roads and moved back to 7th with 35 laps to go. With 19 laps to go, he took 6th from Kevin Harvick.

Turning point
Mid-race handling issues hindered Gordon’s ability to stay in the top-5. A four-tire change on the final pit stop lost track position.

JG’s comments

“It’s a great effort by the team, but definitely not what we were hoping for. This is a track I feel like we can win at. We just missed it. We just weren’t there. That first run, I thought, ‘wow, we really have something for them.’ But it’s so hard to pass and we kind of lost the handling on it. Yeah, it’s a 6th when you look at the rest of our season, that’s pretty good. But when you look at what we have to do over the next 7 races, it’s definitely not something we’re content with.”

NOT A BAD FINISH CONSIDERING YOU KIND OF TOOK A LONG WAY TO GET THERE?

“Yeah, I’m really disappointed in today. I don’t feel like that we had the car that we needed to be more competitive which I thought we could. When we got track position we weren’t able to maintain it. It was just a disappointing day when you look at what our goals are right now. We’ve got to be up there battling for wins if we are going to make this Chase and then get those wins. At the beginning I thought we were equally as good as anybody. I don’t know from that second run on it just went downhill.”

THE PIT STRATEGY YOU TALKED ABOUT YOU WERE IN A POSITION WHERE YOU CAN ROLL THE DICE IN SOME THINGS WAS THAT AN INDICATOR OF THAT TODAY?

“Yeah, I think Alan wanted to see what it was like in clean air. It was a risk. That is the position that we are in right now we’ve got to take those kinds of risks. It didn’t work out, but it wasn’t that bad. I think we feel back to third or fourth. We were still about where we were prior to that. I don’t know we just really didn’t keep up with the track. This tire, I tell you, Goodyear has got to go back to the drawing board. They came here with a new tire and it is not a very good tire. I think they know it. I’m hoping that they that they can come up with something a little bit better than this.”

Daytona In-Car Audio

July 8, 2012 by admin 49921 Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2012%2F07%2F08%2Fjeff-gordon-daytona-coke-zero-400-in-car-audio-nascar%2FDaytona+In-Car+Audio2012-07-08+04%3A12%3A25adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D4992

Tony Stewart claimed the Coke Zero 400 victory with a late pass on Matt Kenseth. Stewart started at the rear of the field following a violation following qualifying, but made his way to the lead after the final restart with 2 laps to go. It was Stewart’s 47th career victory.

Jeff Gordon posted a 12th place finish after being involved in four different melees during the event. He started 5th and slipped back to 7th after the first lap on the inside line. He moved to the outside on lap 4 and worked in a draft with Juan Pablo Montoya. On lap 10, Gordon fell to 12th on the outside in a draft with his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne. Gordon dropped back to 21st on lap 16 in an effort to cool his engine. He re-entered the top-20 on lap 30. At the 100-mile mark, Gordon ran in 17th place. Following a round of green flag pit stops, Gordon moved up to 12th place. He continued to advance on the outside line and moved to 10th on lap 50. With Jimmie Johnson providing a drafting push, Gordon moved to 6th place on lap 55. However, he faded back by the 60-lap mark and ran in 17th place. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 12th place.

A caution for Sam Hornish’s spin on lap 81 slowed the field and brought the lead lap cars to pit road. Gordon opted for two tires and departed in 4th place. On the restart, Gordon moved up to 2nd behind Matt Kenseth. Kurt Busch’s crash on lap 90 brought out the second caution flag. Gordon settled into 3rd place behind Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle over the next 25 laps. However, Gordon wound up in the infield grass coming to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 125. Bill Elliott lost control and drilled Gordon in the left side, sending him into the infield grass. The caution waved as Johnson was caught up in the melee and slammed the inside wall. Gordon came to pit road four times during the caution flag for repairs on the left side of the car. He restarted in 30th place with 29 laps to go.

With 20 laps to go, Gordon moved up to run in 22nd place. A caution for Brad Keselowski’s spin slowed the field with 16 laps to go. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 19th place. With 8 laps to go, Denny Hamlin lost control and collected 15 cars in a turn one wreck. Gordon made his way through the carnage with damage on the left side of the car and a flat tire. He came to pit road and restarted in 15th place with 2 laps to go. Coming to the checkered flag, Gordon was caught up in a wreck ahead of him. He bounced off Travis Kvapil’s car and came across the line in 12th place.

Turning point
Gordon was running in 3rd place when he was wrecked coming onto pit road with 30 laps to go.

JG’s comments

ON THE PIT ROAD MELEE:

“We were just coming to pit road. I don’t know what happened behind me, but they just started wrecking and we got caught up in that. That definitely changed our day. We were in great position, fast race car, and pit stops were flawless. At that point it was about fixing the damage and getting track position. The damage – they did a great job. The car had plenty of speed, but there was just no passing when you were in the back for those final laps. Three lanes wide, you just had to wait until somebody wrecked or got out of shape and the momentum changed. We actually had a great run coming through turns 3 and 4, and we were going to be better than even 12th. We kind of got caught in that wreck too. We had some momentum coming so I think we could have finished 10th-12th. But we ended up 12th. Not a bad day considering all the things that happened.”
