Scouts Honor Jeff Gordon

Jeff Gordon is a four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. He’s won the Daytona 500 three times. And he co-owns a racing team that’s won championships of its own.

And after Tuesday, he has something in common with 13 presidents, Charles Lindbergh, Walt Disney, Hank Aaron and Colin Powell.

He’s a Silver Buffalo.

Bristol Food City 500 In-Car Audio

March 23 – – Another week and another solid race for Jeff Gordon. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the long-awaited victory he had been looking for, but instead a 4th place finish in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Gordon struggled with a tight handling car on longer runs, which made contending for the victory a near impossibility. Nevertheless, he scored his fourth top-10 finish of the season and extended his points lead. The race was dominated by Kyle Busch who led more than 350 of the 500 laps en route to his second win of the season

Jeff to Start 10th at Bristol

March 20 – – Jeff Gordon turned in his best qualifying performance in nearly a month, but it was only good enough for the 10th starting position in Sunday’s Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. With the tight confines of pit road at Bristol, Gordon will need a little luck — not to mention a fast car– to stay up front on the 1/2-mile track. Recent races at the track have been a far cry from the slugfests they used to be due in part to the variable banking in the corners that allow drivers on the high side to maintain momentum.

Jeff and Family Head to Belgium

Jeff and family are in Belgium, the homeland of wife Ingrid Vandebosch while the Sprint Cup series takes a week off.  Jeff checked out some of the race tracks in the region including Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps where he was offered to take a few hot laps which he denied.   In the video below you’ll see Jeff comment on the long Nascar season, the global economic crisis and his surge back to the top of the standings in 2009.

Atlanta Kobalt 500 In-Car Audio

March 8 – – Jeff Gordon came within one daring late race move of his first victory of the season before settling for a runner-up finish in the Kobalt 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Gordon, driving the black and silver National Guard Chevrolet, led the race with less than 80 laps to go, but fell to 4th on pit road after a dropped lug nut. He battled back and got a needed green/white/checkered finish to close the gap on the leaders. He restarted in 3rd and was edged near the wall by eventual winner Kurt Busch before getting around Carl Edwards. However, he was unable to run down Busch for the victory.

Jeff to Start 16th at Atlanta

March 6 – – Jeff Gordon will start 16th in Sunday’s Kobalt 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The race is the first of eight with the National Guard as the primary sponsor on his car. The silver and black #24 Chevrolet is looking for victory lane for the first time since October 2007. Although Gordon remains on a 43-race winless streak, he leads the points standings for the first time in nearly 17 months– giving him an inside track to qualify for the chase for the championship. “We wanted to come out of the box strong and we have,” Gordon said. “Our goal coming into this season was to run in the top five, lead laps and put ourselves in position to win races. If you do that then you’re going to make the Chase. If you do it really well, you’re going to have a shot at winning the championship.”
