For the second time in four weeks, Jeff Gordon scored an impressive victory in the NASCAR Cup series. Gordon pulled away from Joey Logano on the final restart with 17 laps to go en route to his 3rd victory of the season and 91st of his career. Gordon’s 447th top-10 finish moved him past Bobby Allison into sole possession of 3rd all-time in NASCAR history. Gordon started on the pole and opted for the outside line. Joey Logano took the race lead on the inside after exiting turn 2 on the opening lap. The first caution came on lap 4 after Kyle Busch made contact with the wall. Gordon ran 2nd to Logano until the competition caution on lap 20. Gordon came to pit road for 2 tires and restarted in 5th place on lap 24. The next caution came just after the restart when Danica Patrick spun in turn 2. The melee collected Matt Kenseth, Martin Truex, Justin Allagaier, Trevor Bayne, and Michael Annett. Gordon struggled on the restart on lap 30 and dropped to 7th place. He regrouped to take 6th from Jamie McMurray on lap 34 prior to a debris caution on lap 36. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 4th on lap 39. He quickly moved to 2nd on the outside line behind Logano. He tracked down Logano and took the race lead on lap 59 before coming to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 64.

Gordon lost a spot to Logano during the pit sequence as the crew removed a spring rubber. Gordon passed Logano for position as the pit sequence ended, thus giving Gordon the race lead once again. The next caution came on lap 96 for Kyle Larson’s hard crash in turn 3. Gordon came to pit road for 4 tires and restarted in 5th place. He slipped to 7th on the inside line before taking 6th from Greg Biffle on lap 110. Five laps later, he re-entered the top-5 with a move around McMurray. Gordon advanced to 3rd on lap 125 with a pass on Dale Earnhardt Jr, and took the runner-up spot from Kevin Harvick on lap 133. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 139. When the sequence cycled through, Gordon had the race lead. He extended his lead to 2 seconds before a green flag stop for two tires on lap 166. Logano cycled through with the race lead just ahead of Gordon after the round of stops.

A caution for Brad Keselowski’s wall contact slowed the field on lap 168. Gordon lined up alongside Logano for the restart with 28 laps to go. Gordon dropped to 3rd on the inside line after the restart. A caution for Brian Vickers’ spin with 26 laps to go brought another restart. He took 2nd when Kurt Busch slammed the wall with 23 laps to go, which brought out the caution. On the restart with 17 to go, Gordon shot into the lead heading into turn 1. He pulled away for his 3rd win of the season and 91st of his career.

Turning point
Gordon got a strong restart on the inside of Logano with 17 laps to go. He shot into the lead and never looked back.

JG’s comments
“It wasn’t easy. It’s never easy to win at any of these tracks, especially when aerodynamics and track position mean so much. I thought we learned a lot the last time we were here on track position. Alan just called a perfect race. I kept getting on that inside lane and just not getting very good restarts. I knew it was going to get exciting with Kurt (Busch) and Joey (Logano). Those two are very, very aggressive; and of course Kurt got loose. That last restart was it. We had the car to win. Our car was amazing. But whoever got out in front had such a huge advantage. I got a good restart and Kevin (Harvick) for some reason, wasn’t getting good restarts, so Joey was sort of out there by himself and I was able to get to his quarter. When I got to his quarter, I dragged him back and I was able to shoot to the bottom and get by. But he made a heck of an effort. I thought he was going to get back by me; he almost did. And I just needed a couple of laps for my tires to come in and all of a sudden we were out front and setting sail and the checkered flag was waving. This is just unbelievably awesome. I’ve got to say hi to Ingrid and Ella and Leo back home. They couldn’t come today. But we’re celebrating your honor here and this is just amazing. This is fantastic.”

WHAT IS IT ABOUT THIS CAR AND THE RULES PACKAGE THAT IS PLAYING INTO YOUR HANDS THIS YEAR?
“It’s everything. It’s Hendrick Motorsports and the job that they do, collectively, with all of our teammates and the engineers. Everybody who is building the chassis and the bodies and the cars back at the shop; the engines are amazing. And then, I’ve got to give so much credit to Alan Gustafson and his crew. This guy is a great leader. I knew that he had this in him and he’s just been showing it by bringing great race cars every weekend. Today it was more than just a great race car, it took the whole team effort and making great calls and of course, I had a good restart again. That was fun. And these guys; they’re just awesome. Rick Hendrick is here and I love celebrating wins with him.”

TALK ABOUT THAT LAST RESTART AND HOW YOU WERE ABLE TO GET BY JOEY LOGANO
“I had a couple of different ones that didn’t go so well today. On that inside lane it was tough. Joey was so aggressive and good on the restarts. His car could really take off. But Kevin (Harvick) behind him was having a little bit of trouble on the restarts so he kind of got out there on his own and I got a really good start and I just got to his quarter just before we got to turn one, his left-rear. I was able to drag him back a little bit and when that happened it just gave me the momentum and allowed me to get ahead of him. I just didn’t lift. Went to the bottom, didn’t lift. I was on the inside of him on a previous restart and I kind of learned what not to do on that one. I knew my car was good enough, but even when we got out front with this car, Joey had a good run at us. His car was just turning so good at the beginning of a run that he got back to my bumper got me loose and I thought it was over at that point. Luckily I was able to stay on the outside of him and had a little push from Kevin (Harvick) that time to get by him.”

TAKE US THROUGH THAT MOVE
“He could just attack the entry of the corner. Those Penske cars all year long have been able to drive in the corner so deep and get the car to turn for whatever reason we seem to be better than them on the long runs. I knew getting out front was going to be a huge advantage. I tried to hedge toward the bottom. I knew that was the way it was going. I just had to lift early to keep the front-end cutting. When I did he got to me and it started loosening up the back end. I tried to stay in the gas as much as I could and keep as much momentum because I knew he was going to get inside of me and I was just hoping I could stay with him and I was able to. When I was able to stay on his quarter panel and when Kevin got behind me it just gave me a big shove and push into turn three. Those guys got side-by-side and at that point I knew it was over if we just could get to the checkered flag.”

IT’S BEEN 13 YEARS SINCE YOU WON HERE. IT’S ALSO BEEN 13 YEARS SINCE A CHAMPIONSHIP YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE DRIVE FOR FIVE NOW AS YOU HAVE WON A THIRD TIME THIS YEAR AS YOU ARE BACK IN THE POINTS LEAD?
“As I told you before the race started our Chase has already started. This team is championship caliber, but we have a lot of work to do. It’s going to be tough and we want to put ourselves in the mindset of right now we are in it. We don’t want anything to change and do anything different when we get to Chicago. Other than keep going and charging for those wins. That is what we did today. I’m just so proud. Thanks to all the fans. We had an awesome Michigan crowd here today. To win here in Michigan in the backyard of Chevrolet driving this car is always special.”

Watkins Glen In-Car Audio

After capturing the pole position at Watkins Glen, it looked as if Jeff Gordon would be a serious contender at the track for the first time since 2007. He led the opening 29 laps, and seemed to be running down race leader Marcos Ambrose just after the halfway point. However, a power issue forced Gordon to coast to the pit area on lap 51. He lost 4 laps in the process. It was just the third time in the last 24 races where Gordon failed to post a top-15 finish. Gordon started on the pole and led the opening laps before Cole Whitt’s crash brought out the caution on lap 9. He pulled away on the restart with Marcos Ambrose tracking him in 2nd place. The first round of green flag stops came on lap 29. Gordon returned to the race in 2nd behind Ambrose. At the halfway point, he ran more than 2 seconds behind Ambrose. However, Gordon slowed on the track on lap 51 and coasted to a stop on the track. He received a push from a safety vehicle to go to the garage area. He lost 4 laps while repairs were made.

Just as Gordon returned to the race, a hard crash involving Ryan Newman and Michael McDowell forced a red flag condition. The race was red-flagged for nearly 90 minutes while repairs to the track barrier were made. Gordon ran in 36th place after the restart and came to pit road with 22 laps to go for fuel and tires. A caution with 12 laps to go saw Gordon move up to 35th place, but he remained 4 laps down. A caution for Jimmie Johnson and Regan Smith’s crash after the restart with 9 laps to go slowed the field. Gordon took 34th due to Smith’s misfortune. With 4 laps to go, Denny Hamlin crashed into the barrels at pit entrance, which necessitated a clean-up period and a 20-minute red flag delay. Gordon posted a 34th place finish.

Turning point
Gordon lost power on the track on lap 51 and needed a push to the pit area. He lost 4 laps in the process.

JG’s comments
I was having so much fun out there leading and battling with Marcos Ambrose who I have so much respect for on these tracks. We got a little bit behind on the [first pit sequence]. Marcos came in a little before us. Between that — and I got held up a little on that lap — we were charging back getting to him. Then I came off the carousel and all the power went out. I flipped batteries and did everything that we do in that situation. It just never had any power. So, I’m not sure what caused it. We changed the battery and had power.”

Pocono In-Car Audio

August 3, 2014 by admin 6581Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F08%2F03%2Fjeff-gordon-gobolwing-com-400-pocono-in-car-audio-nascar-2014%2FPocono+In-Car+Audio2014-08-03+21%3A28%3A28adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6581

Dale Earnhardt Jr swept both events at Pocono Raceway in 2014 after a late two-tire change put him in position for the victory. Jeff Gordon dominated the event, having led 63 laps. However, a four-tire change for Gordon put him behind Earnhardt Jr in the closing stages. He was unable to make up the deficit and finished 6th. Gordon remains the NASCAR points leader by 17 points over Earnhardt Jr. The finish was the 446th top-10 of Gordon’s Cup series career — tying him with Bobby Allison for the 3rd highest total in NASCAR history. Gordon started 5th and dropped two spots on the opening lap before moving back to 5th on lap 3 as the tires came up to temperature. He took 4th from Kevin Harvick on lap 4. The first caution waved on lap 9 for Jimmie Johnson’s cut tire. On the restart, Gordon took 3rd from Kyle Larson. The next caution came on lap 16 after Danica Patrick drilled the wall following a flat tire. Gordon dropped a spot to Larson on the restart, but regrouped to take back the 3rd spot on lap 22. He took the runner-up spot from Harvick on lap 26 prior to a caution for Landon Cassill’s crash. Gordon came to pit road for 4 tires and restarted in 14th place after several cars stayed on the track. He gained 4 spots on the restart and moved to 9th place on lap 35. At the 100-mile mark, Gordon ran in 7th place.

Gordon re-entered the top-5 on lap 41 by passing Casey Mears, and took 4th from Logano one lap later. He passed Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex on lap 44 to take the 2nd position. Gordon inherited the race lead when Kurt Busch came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 45. The next caution waved on lap 51 for Joe Nemechek’s wall contact courtesy of Kasey Kahne’s front bumper. Gordon gave up the race lead on lap 66 for a green flag pit stop. After the pit stop sequence concluded on lap 79, Gordon returned to the race lead. He led the next 16 laps before coming to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 95. Gordon re-assumed the top spot on lap 106 when Matt Kenseth came to pit road for a stop.

The next caution waved on lap 112 for Jimmie Johnson’s wall impact. Gordon stayed on the track and remained the lead. On the restart, a major wreck ensued on the backstretch when Denny Hamlin lost control and spun in front of the field. Tony Stewart, Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, AJ Allmendinger, Paul Menard, Brian Vickers, Martin Truex, Aric Almirola, and Justin Allgaier sustained heavy damage. He reached the 24,000 laps led career milestone by leading his 51st lap during the race at Pocono. After a lengthy clean-up following the crash, Gordon led the field to the restart with 34 laps to go. He came to pit road for his final green flag stop with 28 laps to go. A four-tire change put Gordon back onto the track in 8th place due to drivers ahead of him on different fuel and tire strategies.

A caution for AJ Allmendinger’s wall contact brought out the caution with 22 to go. The caution allowed Gordon to close the deficit to the leaders and put him in position for the victory on fresher tires. He restarted on the inside line in 7th place with 17 to go. Gordon dropped back to 9th after Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray went by. He battled a loose handling condition in the closing stages, but moved to 8th with 11 to go. Gordon entered the top-5 with 8 to go after passing McMurray and Greg Biffle. The caution waved with 7 to go after Kurt Busch hit the wall after cutting a tire. On the restart with 4 to go, Gordon dropped to 6th where he finished the race.

Turning point
A green flag pit stop with 28 laps to go, and a subsequent 4-tire change, put Gordon back in traffic and out of clean air.

JG’s comments
“Those guys had to do the exact opposite strategy of us. I thought Alan and the team did amazing today. We had the dominant car, but you had to have track position. There at the end we didn’t have it. I think if we would have started in the outside lanes, we would have been alright. My restarts weren’t terrible today. They weren’t bad. When we were on the outside, we could really make up some spots. Unfortunately, those last couple of restarts we were on the inside. With Dale Jr getting out in front of us through the pit sequence, there was nothing we could do. He was really good. Whoever got out front — him or me — I think was going to win the race. I’m still really happy with how well our car performed today. That’s encouraging and has my confidence sky high.”

Brickyard 400 In-car Audio

July 28, 2014 by admin 6569Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F07%2F28%2Fjeff-gordon-brickyard-400-indianpolis-in-car-audio-2014%2FBrickyard+400+In-car+Audio2014-07-28+05%3A11%3A39adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6569

Jeff Gordon claimed his 5th career victory in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Gordon led 40 laps and took the lead for the final time with 18 laps to go. He scored his 90th career victory and 2nd of the 2014 season. Gordon started 2nd and took the race lead from Kevin Harvick on lap 2. He pulled out to more than a 3-second lead prior to the competition caution on lap 20. He opted for two tires during the stop. Gordon restarted 2nd next to Joey Logano who did not pit. On the restart, Gordon dropped to 4th as his Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson went by. He regrouped and took 3rd from Johnson on lap 32, and moved to 2nd when Logano came to pit road on lap 33. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 35 after complaining of loose handling. Different pit strategies were in play as Gordon passed Kasey Kahne and Joey Logano on the track following stops to run 15th on lap 45. When the field cycled through, Gordon ran 2nd to Harvick on lap 55. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 66 for four tires. The second caution waved on lap 67 for Danica Patrick’s axle problem. Gordon restarted in 4th place behind Denny Hamlin, Harvick, and Kahne. On the restart, he fell to 6th in the outside line as Logano went by entering turn 1. Gordon re-entered the top-5 on lap 74 with a move around Hamlin, and took 4th from Logano two laps later. He took 3rd from Harvick on lap 91 and worked to close a 4-second deficit to race leader Kasey Kahne.

The third caution waved on lap 97 for Trevor Bayne’s crash. The lead lap cars came to pit road with Gordon restarted in 5th place. Harvick, with the preferred first pit stall, was able to re-take the spot from Gordon. On the restart, Gordon was boxed in behind Clint Bowyer and settled into 5th place on lap 102. He passed Harvick to take 4th on lap 106 and took 3rd from Bowyer two laps later. Kyle Busch moved over to let Gordon take 2nd place on lap 114 to get a piece of debris off the front of his car. Gordon came to pit road for the final time with 31 laps to go. He cycled through in 2nd place behind Kahne. A caution with 21 laps to go slowed the field. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 2nd alongside Kahne.

On the restart with 18 to go, Gordon dove to the inside to take the race lead from Kahne. He pulled away and scored his record-tying 5th victory at the famed 2.5-mile track in the Indianapolis suburbs.

Turning point
Gordon got a strong restart on the outside of Kahne with 18 laps to go to take the lead that he never relinquished.

JG’s comments
“I don’t think there is a greater feeling for a race car driver and a race team, because that’s what it took today. It was a total team effort to be here in Victory Lane.”

WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR MIND ON THAT LAST RESTART WITH 17 LAPS TO GO?
“I’m not very good on restarts and wasn’t very good today. I finally made the restart of my life today when it counted most. I knew we had a great race car. We just needed to get out front. Kasey (Kahne) kind of hung back and I kind of got a little ahead of him and I had to back up and was able to stay on his quarter panel and once we got down into (Turns) 1 and 2, I could hear him get loose. I was kind of glad he took the inside because I really wanted the outside. I’ve got to thank him. He raced me awesome and clean because it could have gotten real ugly down there. Once I got clear of him I was like, I can’t believe this is happening now. No caution; please no caution now. I cannot believe that this just happened.”

YOU UNDERSTAND THE HISTORY OF THE INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY. WHAT’S THE SIGNIFICANCE TO YOU TO BE A FIVE-TIME WINNER HERE?
“I was trying so hard with 10 (laps) to go not to focus on the crowd. Every once in a while I’d glance up there and I could see the reaction. I was trying not to let it get to me and not think about it too much. And yet you can’t help it. It’s such a big place and such an important victory and a crucial moment in the season and the championship and those emotions take over. I have my kids here; there’s nothing better, especially at one of the biggest races to have your family here. All I know is my friends back at home; I need to take a vacation more often (laughs). This one is for all those fans throughout the years and all weekend long. They’re saying ‘we believe you can get number 5.’ We got number 5.”

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF
“It’s just unbelievable. I’ve wanted to win this race my whole life; to win here at this unbelievable place and the history of this race track. Jeff (Gordon) has an amazing record here. This is the one. This is the one for me. I am so proud of everybody at the No. 24 shop. Kasey (Kahne) had a great run. This is a new car. There is just a ton of work to it. Those guys did it; they are the best.”

RICK HENDRICK, OWNER, HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS
“I told Jeff this morning that this was his day. He’s been so good on the long runs at every track and he gets around this place so well. But for him to break that tie [with 5 Indy wins] is pretty special. We’re a little bit older than we were 20 years ago, but this is a great win. What a way, with Jeff, here in Indianapolis where this is his own track. I remember how good it felt. This one feels just as good.”

New Hampshire In-Car Audio

July 15, 2014 by admin 6550Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F07%2F15%2Fjeff-gordon-new-hampshire-camping-world-rv-sales-301-in-car-audio-2014%2FNew+Hampshire+In-Car+Audio2014-07-15+21%3A41%3A16adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6550

Brad Keselowski dominated the Camping World 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway by leading nearly half of the race en route to his second win in the last three weeks. Jeff Gordon finished 26th after an up and down day where he made a late race gamble to make it to the finish on fuel, but came up 3 laps short when the race went into extra time. Nevertheless, he holds a 12 point lead in the NASCAR standings. It snapped his streak of 17 consecutive top-15 finishes at Loudon. Gordon started 11th and moved into the top-10 when Jimmie Johnson cut a tire on lap 8. The first caution waved on lap 13 after Johnson cut another tire and wrecked in turn 1. Gordon advanced to 7th by lap 22, but struggled with tight handling as the run progressed. He dropped to 9th by lap 40 and fell to 10th when Kevin Harvick passed on lap 43. His slide continued as Dale Earnhardt Jr sent him to 11th on lap 46. Gordon lost 3 more spots over the next 10 laps and ran 14th on lap 56. His handling woes dropped him outside the top-20 on lap 60 and he complained the car was “undrivable.” Gordon dropped to 25th prior to a green flag pit stop on lap 75. Following the stop it was determined that Gordon’s right rear tire had developed a slow leak which hindered the car’s handling.

When the pit stop sequence cycled through, Gordon ran a lap down in 26th place. He passed Greg Biffle to take 25th by the 100-lap mark. The second caution waved on lap 112 for phantom debris. Gordon stayed on the track for the wave-around to get back on the lead lap. He restarted in 22nd place on lap 117. Gordon was unable to make headway and ran 22nd at the halfway point of the race. A debris caution on lap 153 allowed Gordon to come to pit road and get on the same pit sequence as the leaders — while also allowing him to get four tires. He re-entered the top-20 after the restart on lap 157 and took 19th from Paul Menard on lap 160. Gordon took 15th from Kurt Busch on lap 171 as his forward march on four tires continued. The next debris caution came at lap 176 and Gordon came to pit road for fresh tires. He restarted in 16th place on lap 180 and worked through race traffic to pick up 3 spots in the next 10 laps. At the 200-lap mark, Gordon ran in 11th place.

He re-entered the top-10 for the first time since the early stages after Joey Logano crashed on lap 211. Gordon opted for two tires and restarted in 3rd place. He got a poor restart on the inside line and dropped to 7th on lap 220. He regrouped and took 6th from Kasey Kahne on lap 225, and entered the top-5 on lap 233. A debris caution with 52 laps to go brought the leaders to pit road for the final time. Gordon stayed on the track and assumed the race lead.

Gordon led until lap 270 when Brad Keselowski took over the top spot. With 20 to go, Denny Hamlin pulled to the outside and took a spot from Gordon. He conserved fuel to try and make it to the finish and backed off on his overall lap times. A caution for Justin Allgaier’s crash with 3 laps to go set up a green/white/checkered finish. Hamlin came to pit road for fuel. Gordon stayed on the track, but ran out of fuel under the caution period. He needed a push from a safety vehicle to get back to pit road for fuel. He remained on the lead lap and finished the race in 26th place.

Turning point
Gordon was running 5th when the caution waved with 52 laps to go. He stayed on the track and inherited the race lead, but had to complete the distance on the edge of his fuel window.

JG’s comments
“The whole race for us was just so up and down and crazy. There at the beginning, we had a leak in the right rear and went a lap down. I could barely hold onto it. I didn’t know what was wrong with it. I just knew it was really hard to drive. I was doing everything I could to keep from wrecking. And we thought we just missed the set-up, but it was that tire. So we made an adjustment that probably over-compensated and we had to come from a lap down. But, the car, once we were able to tune on it and knew what we had, was actually really, really strong. We were able to show that towards the end, which was great. We didn’t have the tires that those guys had, so they were a little bit better than us, but we held them off for a good while there. We were looking good to finish third. I felt very confident we could finish third until that caution came out and then we just ran out under caution.”

WAS IT UNEXPECTED TO RUN OUT OF FUEL?
“We knew we were very close. That pick-up is in the right side and so I was scuffing my tires and think I just took enough fuel out of the pick-up and I could never get any back in there. I tried. I think if we would have gone green, we would have been fine. I think it was really just because under caution it wouldn’t pick-up the amount of fuel that was in there. We might have run out anyway. But, it was the best effort and chance we had at winning this race. And that’s what it’s all about for us in the points. Leading and where we’ve been, it’s all about wins right now. We got to go for it so I thought it was a great call even if we did come up short.”

WHAT DO YOU TAKE AWAY FROM TODAY THAT YOU CAN USE HERE IN SEPTEMBER?
“When the green flag dropped, I thought we were in big trouble. But as it turned out, we had some kind of issue with the right rear tire going do. So, we’ve got to work on it. We weren’t good enough, in my opinion, to win, but we weren’t far off. So that gives us something really good to work with and notes to take back and go over and debrief with our teammates and hopefully come back even stronger.”

DID ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING FOR RACE WINNER, BRAD KESELOWSKI TODAY? THEY SEEM TO BE VERY STRONG.
“Yeah, I don’t know what they’ve got but they’ve got something that’s really good right now and we’re playing catch-up.”

Coke Zero 400 In-Car Audio

Aric Almirola claimed his first career win in the rain-shortened Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. The race was called after 109 laps due to heavy rain. Jeff Gordon finished 12th after evading two major wrecks to claim his 17th top-15 finish in 18 races this year. Gordon maintained the NASCAR points lead by 27 over his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Gordon started 9th and ran on the inside line for the first 6 laps before a caution for a rain shower. As heavier rain fell, the field came to pit road for a red flag period. After a 40-minute delay, racing resumed on lap 12. On lap 20, a multi-car incident was triggered when Ricky Stenhouse got loose at the front of the field and Gordon turned down into Tony Stewart’s car.

More than 10 cars sustained heavy damage — including Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson, and Kyle Larson. Gordon sustained minor left front damage when he turned into Stewart’s right rear quarterpanel after seeing Stenhouse get loose. He came to pit road several times for fender repairs. Gordon restarted in 31st place on lap 29. A debris caution on lap 40 slowed the field with Gordon in 30th place. He restarted in 32nd on lap 44 and remained in a draft with Ryan Newman approximately 4 seconds behind the lead group. He drafted with Newman up to 24th place on lap 75. He stayed on the track to lead 2 laps during a green flag pit sequence on lap 88. After a 2-tire change, Gordon ran in 16th place on lap 90.

The next caution waved for debris on lap 94. Gordon stayed out and restarted 12th on lap 97. Gordon barely made it through another major wreck on the backstretch that took out more than 20 drivers on lap 98. The wreck was triggered when Greg Biffle bump drafted Kasey Kahne, which turned him sideways into Joey Logano. Gordon sustained some nose damage after getting into the back of David Gilliland during the melee. After repairs on pit road, Gordon restarted in 13th place — with just 16 cars on the lead lap. Gordon dropped to 12th before a caution for rain on lap 108. The red flag waved on lap 112 and the race was called after heavy rain continued in the afternoon.

Turning point
After Stenhouse got loose, Gordon turned down into Stewart. The damage impacted the handling of the Pepsi Chevrolet for the balance of the event.

Brad Keselowski dominated the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway by leading 199 of the 267 laps en route to his 12th career win. Keselowski started from the pole and took the lead for the final time from Kyle Busch with less than 20 laps remaining due to different pit strategies. Jeff Gordon finished 6th after a pit road issue and maintained the series points lead.

Gordon started 3rd and slipped back to 6th on lap 2 after he got loose underneath Denny Hamlin. He regrouped and took 5th from Kyle Larson on lap 16, and moved past Kevin Harvick to run 4th on lap 23. Gordon took 3rd when Denny Hamlin crashed on lap 29 to bring out the first caution. Gordon’s crew changed two tires and the #24 car held the 3rd spot. He slipped to 4th on the restart on the inside line and held the spot until the next caution on lap 77 for Kyle Larson’s crash. Gordon took 4 tires on the pit stop and restarted in 8th place. He moved to 7th when Matt Kenseth slowed for a cut tire. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 125. Gordon came to pit road for tires, but an air gun malfunction saw him restart back in 23rd place. He re-entered the top-20 on lap 134 and ran 17th on lap 142.

Gordon moved to 14th on lap 154 following a crash that took out Jamie McMurray and Aric Almirola. Following a 4-tire stop, Gordon restarted in 18th place. He steadily gained positions and took 15th from Kasey Kahne with just under 100 laps to go. The next caution came with 91 laps to go when David Stremme spun in turn 4. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 8th place. He took 7th from Jimmie Johnson and then passed Kevin Harvick for 6th with 75 to go. Almriola’s crash with 53 to go brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon’s crew changed 4 tires and the driver restarted in 7th place. He dropped to 9th before rallying back to 8th with 30 to go. Gordon took 7th after Joey Logano dropped a cylinder with 21 to go. He passed Harvick for 6th with 2 laps to go, where he finished the event.

Gordon leads the NASCAR standings by 24 points over Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Turning point
An air gun malfunction during a pit stop on lap 126 saw Gordon fall from 7th to 23rd place. He battled for track position for the balance of the night after that.

JG’s comments
“That was a strong, competitive effort. That’s why we’ve been so good week in and week out. Really good cars and good team. When we get down, we fight back. I’m disappointed, I thought we were going to be better than that…. We did have the issues [on pit road] and got behind. The car was pretty decent at the end, but not enough to really move up. It was pretty tough to pass. I thought we made the most of what happened to us tonight.”

Sonoma In-Car Audio

June 23, 2014 by admin 6524Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F06%2F23%2Fjeff-gordon-sonoma-save-mart-350-in-car-audio-2014%2FSonoma+In-Car+Audio2014-06-23+04%3A44%3A10adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6524

Carl Edwards held off Jeff Gordon in the Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway to claim his first career victory on a road course. Gordon gained 4 spots in the final 20 laps, but was unable to get around Edwards for the win. Gordon remains the NASCAR points leader with a 20 point gap on Jimmie Johnson. It was Gordon’s third runner-up finish in the last 4 races at Sonoma.

Gordon started 15th and dropped to 17th by the end of lap 1. He regrouped and regained the 15th position on lap 4, and took 14th from Brad Keselowski one lap later. Gordon’s forward march continued as he moved to 12th on lap 9 and took 11th from Brian Vickers on lap 12. He entered the top-10 on lap 15 with a move around Joey Logano. He fell out of the top-10 when Jimmie Johnson went by on lap 19, but moved back to 10th by passing Paul Menard on lap 21. Dale Earnhardt Jr took a spot from Gordon on lap 23 prior to the first round of green flag pit stops. The first caution waved on lap 31 for Landon Cassill’s engine, which allowed Gordon to advance up to 6th for the restart because the top-5 hadn’t pitted under green. He entered the top-5 with a pass on Kyle Larson on lap 37, and took 4th from Earnhardt Jr on lap 41. Gordon led 3 laps during a green flag pit stop sequence before he came in for tires and fuel on lap 58. A caution flag on lap 60 jumbled several strategies as race leader Kevin Harvick stayed on the track to attempt the race on just 2 pit stops.

Gordon restarted 14th and moved to 10th within a lap of the restart on lap 65. He took 7th from Marcos Ambrose on lap 67 and moved around Clint Bowyer for 6th one lap later. Gordon re-entered the top-5 on lap 68 with a pass on Greg Biffle, and took 4th from Brian Vickers on lap 69. Gordon passed Kevin Harvick for 3rd on lap 70 prior to a caution. Pit stops followed with Gordon restarting in 8th on lap 74 due to 5 drivers pitting before the caution waved. On the restart he moved to 7th prior to a caution for Matt Kenseth’s wreck into the tire barrier on lap 75. The field stayed under caution for 4 laps before restarting on lap 79. He moved up to 6th before a caution for Bowyer’s spin which collected Harvick on lap 82. On the restart with 25 to go, Gordon took 4th from Johnson in turn 3, but dropped the spot at the end of the chute. With 20 to go, Johnson was held up trying to take a spot from Marcos Ambrose, which allowed Gordon to slip by in the esses to take 4th. A caution for Ricky Stenhouse’s spin brought the field closer for the restart with 16 to go. He took 3rd from Ambrose with 13 to go and closed on Carl Edwards and Jamie McMurray for the race lead. Gordon moved to 2nd with a pass on McMurray with 9 laps to go, but was unable to track down Edwards for the victory.

Turning point Gordon was able to get around Johnson on a late race restart, which put him in position to challenge for the victory.

JG’s comments “With 5 or 6 laps to go, I was making some ground up on Carl. I was really good in the fast sections, he was pretty good in the slower sections. I was just having to hit everything so perfect. I overdrove it into turn 4 one time and went real wide. That gave him enough of a gap.”

Jimmie Johnson claimed his 3rd win in the last 4 races with a victory at Michigan International Speedway. It was the 5th consecutive victory in NASCAR competition for Hendrick Motorsports. Jeff Gordon finished 6th and remains the NASCAR points leader by 15 over Johnson.

Gordon started 2nd and fell in line behind polesitter Kevin Harvick on the opening lap. The first caution waved on lap 2 for Brian Vickers spin which collected Travis Kvapil. After the restart on lap 6, Gordon again fell in single file behind Harvick before a caution for Kyle Larson spinning off turn 2. On the next restart, Gordon dropped to 3rd as Aric Almirola followed Harvick. Gordon moved back to 2nd by passing Almirola on lap 13. He took the race lead from Harvick on lap 19 and pulled out to a comfortable lead. The first round of green flag pit stops came on lap 43. Harvick passed Gordon for the race lead on lap 57. A debris caution on lap 73 slowed the field and brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon opted for two tires and restarted in 4th place. He took 3rd from Harvick on lap 85 and passed Joey Logano to take the runner-up spot on lap 101.

The next caution waved on lap 103 for David Ragan’s spin. Gordon opted for four tires during the pit sequence and restarted in 13th place. He slipped to 14th prior to a caution for Alex Bowman’s wall contact on lap 110. One lap after the next restart, Brett Moffitt spun to bring out a caution. The seventh caution came on lap 123 when Denny Hamlin and Aric Almirola got together in turn 3. Gordon came to pit road for a 2-tire change and restarted in 15th place. He dropped to 19th shortly after the restart. A debris caution on lap 147 brought some of the lead lap cars to pit road. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 5th place. He struggled on the inside line on the restart and dropped to 7th on lap 153.

Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 166. He opted for 2 tires and a track bar adjustment during the stop. He ran 7th when the field cycled through stops. Gordon took 6th from Dale Earnhardt Jr with 2 laps to go where he finished the race.

Turning point
After losing track position because of a 4-tire change at the halfway point, Gordon stayed out on lap 147 and got off sequence from most of the field. After a 2-tire stop on the final green flag stop, Gordon was able to post a solid top-10 finish.

JG’s comments
“The car was exceptional. In my opinion, that [car] belongs in Victory Lane. We lost some track position and when we lost track position we knew it wasn’t going to handle good. But we were just super loose even when we got clean air. So that probably hurt us more than anything. We just never could move forward. At the end, we came in and took 2 tires. And boom, the thing was gone and flying again. So, 6th not really indicative of the racecar or what I felt like we were capable of, but we’ll certainly take it.”

Coca-Cola 600 In-Car Audio

May 26, 2014 by admin 6502Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F05%2F26%2Fjeff-gordon-coca-cola-600-charlotte-in-car-audio-nascar-2014%2FCoca-Cola+600+In-Car+Audio2014-05-26+16%3A31%3A52adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6502

Jeff Gordon finished a hard fought 7th in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Gordon battled back spasms in the days prior to the race and had Regan Smith standing by in case a relief driver was needed. Smith never put on his uniform as Gordon completed all 600 miles — and nearly scored his 90th career win in the process.

Gordon started 27th and moved into the top-20 within 10 laps. He entered the top-15 with a pass on Justin Allgaier on lap 27. Gordon moved up to 11th prior to a round of green flag pit stops on lap 48. Gordon Cycled through in 12th place. He entered the top-10 on lap 60 with a pass on Denny Hamlin. By lap 80, Gordon had advanced to 8th place as the #24 car exceled on the longer run. He came to pit road for tires and fuel on lap 92 and cycled through in 7th place. The first caution waved on lap 109 and brought pit stops. Gordon restarted 6th on lap 114 and took 5th from Dale Earnhardt Jr on lap 115. He took 4th from Matt Kenseth on lap 117. A debris caution on lap 149 brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon slipped to 6th place on lap 155 before a caution for David Gilliland’s cut tire and wall contact. Gordon restarted 8th on lap 168 after opting for four tires. He worked race traffic and moved into the top-5 on lap 183. One lap later he took 4th from Brian Vickers. Earnhardt Jr then passed Gordon on lap 195 for position. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 5th place.

Gordon took 4th from Brad Keselowski on lap 205 and moved to 3rd around Earnhardt Jr on lap 210. Gordon led a lap during a green flag pit stop sequence on lap 213. Following stops, Gordon ran in 4th place. A debris caution on lap 222 slowed the field. He came to pit road and restarted in 10th place on lap 227. He advanced to 9th prior to a caution on lap 235 for Marcos Ambrose’s spin. Gordon took 8th from Kyle Busch on lap 246 and moved to 7th on lap 250. As the run progressed, he took 6th from Joey Logano on lap 257 and re-entered the top 5 on lap 261. He passed Jimmie Johnson for position and moved to the runner-up spot on lap 272. A caution for Kurt Busch slowed the field on lap 274. Gordon pitted for tires and restarted 3rd on lap 280. However, he slipped to 5th after the restart as Logano and Martin Truex went by. The next caution waved at lap 285 for Danica Patrick’s blown engine. At the 300-lap mark, Gordon ran in 7th place. He took 6th from Kyle Busch on lap 314 and moved to 5th by lap 320. Gordon came to pit road for green flag stop on lap 330.

Gordon cycled through in 3rd place and began closing on race leaders Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth with less than 50 laps to go. He came to pit road for a green flag stop with 25 to go. The crew changed two tires and Gordon emerged from the pit sequence ahead of Johnson and Kenseth on the track. Alex Bowman’s cut tire slowed the field with 21 to go. Gordon inherited the lead when Carl Edwards came to pit road for tires and fuel. On the restart with 17 to go, Kenseth got momentum on the outside line and took the race lead. Johnson took 2nd from Gordon with 15 to go. Edwards and Harvick moved around Gordon with 12 to go and McMurray pushed him back to 6th with 10 to go. As the laps wound down, the two tires hindered Gordon and he dropped to 7th by the checkered flag.

Turning point
A late two-tire change gave Gordon a chance to win the race. However, a caution flag allowed Kenseth to restart alongside Gordon with four tires.

JG’s comments
The procedures and the different work in therapy that I did helped. There’s quite a few people who were tending to me and I appreciate every one of them. I don’t think I would have gotten through this long race. It was tough. I was aching in there. There was one time I got on the brakes and it triggered something. I didn’t know what was going to happen after that. But it settled down. We had such a great race car. I love the call at the end, just like the call that was made when we won the 1st race here (1994). I don’t know if I could have held off Matt, but we were going to give him a heck of a run. The car was pretty good right there. It was just a matter of whether it was going to tighten up over 20-something laps. I got a decent restart, but when Matt got to my outside I got loose. At that point I was a sitting duck. It was a good effort. I’m happy that I got through it. It tells me a lot about what kind of (pain) threshold I have. I just want to show this team the kind of commitment I have to them because of what they’ve shown me this year.”
