Jeff Gordon’s final career start at Darlington Raceway seemed the like perfect turnaround to his summer malaise. However, a 16th place finish — which was not indicative of his running position through the balance of the event — was his fourth consecutive finish outside the top-15. Barring a driver outside the top-16 in Chase points winning at Richmond, Gordon will qualify for the NASCAR Chase for the 11th time in the 12-year history of the 10-race playoff.

Gordon started 5th and held the spot in the opening laps. The first caution came on lap 7 for a crash involving Brett Moffitt, Cole Whitt and Chase Elliott. On the restart, Gordon dropped to 7th before regrouping to take 6th from Matt Kenseth on lap 22. He re-entered the top-5 with a move around Joey Logano on lap 26. The next caution came on lap 44 for Ryan Newman’s spin. The leaders came to pit road with Gordon exiting in 6th place. He fell to 8th on the restart as Kyle Larson and Carl Edwards went by. He took 7th from Larson on lap 58 prior to a debris caution. Most drivers came to pit road with Gordon opting for tires and restarted in 7th place. He slipped to 8th on lap 88 when Martin Truex passed. A caution for Michael Annett’s spin on lap 109 brought the caution. Pit stops ensued with Gordon exiting in 8th. He took 7th from Kyle Larson prior to a caution for Mike Bliss’ wall contact on lap 120. Gordon came to pit road for tires and restarted in 14th place after several drivers stayed out. He dropped to 17th prior to a caution on lap 134 for Jimmie Johnson’s spin. On the restart, Gordon used fresher tires to his advantage and moved to 12th on lap 140. He re-entered the top-10 on lap 145, and took 9th from Greg Biffle one lap later.

Gordon’s forward advancement continued as he took 8th from Larson on lap 148. However, his progress stalled as Denny Hamlin took a spot from Gordon on lap 160. The next caution came on lap 163 for Trevor Bayne’s cut tire. Pit stops followed with Gordon restarting in 8th place. He used the outside line to his advantage and moved to 6th on lap 170. He passed Denny Hamlin to take over 5th on lap 176. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 189, which brought pit stops. Gordon restarted in 7th on lap 194. He struggled on the inside and dropped to 11th on lap 196 before taking 10th from David Ragan. The next caution came on lap 198 for Ricky Stenhouse’s crash. Gordon moved to 9th on the restart before a caution for Greg Biffle’s spin on lap 208. Gordon ran 8th when the next caution waved on lap 229 for Chase Elliott’s solo crash. Pit stops ensued and Gordon restarted in 9th place. He ran 8th when Trevor Bayne spun to bring out a caution on lap 246. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 5th place.

Gordon moved to 4th after the restart, but was no match for Kevin Harvick on fresher tires. He dropped to 6th after JeKurt Busch took a spot. The next caution came on lap 265 for David Ragan’s spin into the frontstretch wall. Gordon came to pit road for tires and restarted 9th. He advanced to 8th prior to the next caution for Ragan’s second crash. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 5th. He held the spot until Kyle Larson passed on lap 300. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 301. Gordon took tires and restarted in 11th place. He slipped to 14th after the restart. The next caution came on lap 307 when Martin Truex hit Kurt Busch in turn 4. Gordon worked through race traffic and ran in 11th place with 35 to go. He slipped to 12th when Kurt Busch went by with 25 to go. Jeb Burton’s spin with 12 laps to go brought out a caution.

The leaders came to pit road with Gordon losing 4 spots and restarting in 16th place. He crossed the line in 16th for his 4th consecutive finish outside the top-15 — the first time that’s occurred since April-May 2012.

Joey Logano held off Kevin Harvick to win the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Jeff Gordon ran as high as 2nd place in the rainbow-themed #24 car, but needed two unscheduled pit stops for loose wheels in the final 110 laps before finishing in 20th place. At the 200-lap mark, Gordon ran in 13th place. He took spots from Jimmie Johnson and Justin Allgaier to run 11th on lap 225. However, Kevin Harvick took a spot from Gordon on lap 229. He regained 11th place by passing Brad Keselowski on lap 238. A debris caution at the halfway point brought the lead lap cars to pit road with Gordon exiting in 11th place.

Gordon entered the top-10 on lap 263 and took 9th from Martin Truex on lap 272. Harvick passed on lap 287 to send Gordon back to 10th. He regained 9th by passing Jamie McMurray for the spot on lap 299. Gordon moved to 7th on lap 345 after taking a spot from Kurt Busch and an unscheduled pit stop by Kyle Busch. He moved up to 6th on lap 355 when Carl Edwards pitted with a flat tire. A spin by Kyle Larson brought the caution on lap 360. Gordon came to pit road and restarted in 5th place. He moved to 4th when David Ragan crashed on the backstretch. On the restart, Gordon used the outside line to move up to 2nd place behind race leader Joey Logano. Ricky Stenhouse’s wall contact slowed the field on lap 383. Gordon lined up next to Logano for the restart on lap 389. Gordon slipped to 4th when Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr went by. Kyle Busch took a spot on lap 399 to send Gordon back to 5th. On lap 406, Gordon came to pit road for an unscheduled 4-tire pit stop after feeling a vibration. He dropped to 18th place and ran 2 laps down. A debris caution with 71 to go slowed the field. Gordon took the wave around and restarted 1 lap down in 17th. With 25 to go, Gordon came to pit road for a loose wheel. He fell to 23rd place, 4 laps down. Gordon was able to gain 3 spots in the final laps before finishing in 20th place.

Matt Kenseth dominated the Pure Michigan 400 by leading 146 of the 200 laps en route to the victory. Gordon dropped to 15th in the NASCAR Chase standings, and has a 55 point cushion over the Chase cutoff with 3 races remaining. It was Gordon’s 3rd finish outside the top-15 in the last 4 races.

Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 103. He cycled through in 14th place. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 121. After pit stops, Gordon restarted in 13th. He moved up to 12th when Clint Bowyer spun on the backstretch to bring out a caution on lap 126. Another caution for Tony Stewart’s spin moved Gordon up to 10th when Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski came to pit road for fuel. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 168 to ensure he could make it to the finish. Gordon cycled through in 12th place. Jimmie Johnson’s spin brought out the caution with 17 to go. Jeff Gordon Watkins Glen In Car Audio

For the second time in the last 3 weeks, Jeff Gordon posted a sub-40th place finish. Gordon lost 4 laps at Watkins Glen after a brake fluid line issue on lap 25. Gordon dropped to 14th in the NASCAR Chase standings with 4 races remaining before NASCAR’s playoff begins. The 41st place finish was his worst career finish on a road course. In addition, it’s the first time since 2008 that Gordon posted 2 sub-40th place finishes in the same season.

Gordon started 5th at the Cheez-It 355 at the Glen and dropped to 9th by the end of lap 4. He took 8th from Tony Stewart on lap 12, while complaining of handling issues. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 24. Greg Biffle’s cut tire brought out the caution on lap 26. Gordon returned to pit road to diagnose a brake problem on the #24 car. The crew worked on multiple stops to fix an issue with leaking brake fluid. Gordon sat on pit road and lost multiple laps as the line was fixed. A debris caution on lap 31 slowed the field, while Gordon went 4 laps down on pit road. A crash after a restart on lap 49 eliminated Kasey Kahne, which allowed Gordon to gain a spot on the track. He ran in 42nd place on lap 54. Tony Stewart’s broken gear provided Gordon was another spot to gain and he moved to 41st on lap 60 where he finished the event.

JG’s comments
“It’s disappointing. We can’t afford to have these finishes if we’re going to make the Chase. Just when you think you get something that goes your way, and something like this happens. We keep fighting and digging and trying to get the finishes we need to get solidly in there. We need to improve performance-wise, but I think our performance is not bad. Right now it’s the unknown. The concerns of freak things happening like what happened at Indy (and) what happened here. Those are things out of your control. We’re all about the things you can control. From that standpoint, we’re trying to improve the performance of the car slightly. We’re not far off, though.”

Jeff Gordon Windows 10 400 at Pocono 2015

After running mid-pack for most of the race at Pocono Raceway, Jeff Gordon pulled off a 3rd place finish after fuel strategy worked to the advantage of the #24 team. A green flag run to the finish following the final round of stops allowed Gordon to move up from 15th to 3rd in the final 3 laps as drivers pitted for fuel. Gordon tied Mark Martin for the most top-5 finishes (20) at Pocono.

Gordon started 9th and moved up to 7th by the end of the first lap. The first caution waved on lap 5 after Kasey Kahne spun off turn 3 and drilled the pit wall. After a 30-minute red flag for repairs to the pit wall, racing resumed on lap 8. Gordon took 6th from Tony Stewart on lap 13 and ran there when the competition caution waved on lap 15. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 4th place. He took 3rd from Austin Dillon prior to the next caution on lap 21 for Kevin Harvick’s blown engine. The next caution came on lap 28 after Ricky Stenhouse drilled the turn 1 wall. Gordon came to pit road for tires and fuel. Some drivers stayed on the track who had previously pitted, which sent Gordon to 23rd place for the restart. He re-entered the top-20 on lap 40 as drivers ahead began pitting under green. Gordon advanced as high as 2nd place during the pit sequence before coming to pit road on lap 59. The next caution came on lap 62 for a loose tire on pit road. Gordon restarted in 12th place on lap 65. However, on the restart, Gordon was shoved out of the groove and had to dramatically slow to avoid Kurt Busch’s spin in turn 1. He fell to 16th place for the restart on lap 71. Gordon ran 16th at the halfway point on lap 80.

Gordon moved up to 5th place during a green flag pit stop sequence. A caution for Alex Kennedy’s crash on lap 91 brought out the caution. Gordon pitted for tires and fuel and restarted in 16th place. He struggled on the restart and dropped to 21st place before rallying back to 19th on lap 100. He stayed out to lead a lap during a green flag pit sequence and came to pit road with 33 laps to go. As the laps wound down, Gordon moved up to 17th with 13 laps to go, and took 16th from Ryan Newman with 11 to go. With 4 to go, he moved into the top-15 with a move around Greg Biffle. As drivers ran out of fuel, Gordon moved into the top-5 and came across the line in 3rd place. It was his best finish since Bristol in April (span of 13 races). Gordon remains 12th in the NASCAR Chase standings with 5 races to go until the Chase begins.

JG’s comments
“It would be a long, long list if we talked to a bunch of people in the grandstands and myself, and everybody on pit road and probably people watching at home to find out who was more surprised [with the finish]. That was crazy. I’m so proud of (crew chief) Alan Gustafson and everybody on this team. We fought through a lot. We’ve been fighting hard. We just haven’t been getting the results. Today they stuck with a strategy and it played out. It wasn’t looking good at times, but boy, it sure looked good when we crossed the finish line and got the checkered flag.

Jeff-Gordon-Brickyard-400-2015-1

Jeff Gordon’s final race in his adopted home state of Indiana was a 42nd place finish in the Brickyard 400. Gordon was running 15th when Clint Bowyer spun ahead of him. He swerved with Kasey Kahne on his outside and lost control. The car spun and made heavy contact with the left front and rear. Repairs in the garage were needed and Gordon finished more than 50 laps down.

Gordon started 19th and gained three spots in the opening laps to run 16th on lap 5. He advanced to 15th on lap 10, but slipped back to 16th after Matt Kenseth passed one lap later. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 30, which also included chassis adjustments. Gordon cycled through in 15th place. The first caution waved on lap 44 for debris. Pit stops followed with Gordon restarting in 15th place. However, Gordon swerved to avoid Clint Bowyer’s spin on lap 51 and spun into the wall on the short chute between turns 3 and 4. The car was heavily damaged and Gordon lost 3 laps on pit road while repairs were made. After being unable to maintain minimum speed, Gordon brought the damaged car to the garage for more extensive repairs on lap 71.

Gordon returned to the race and was 54 laps down. He gained a spot because of attrition and finished in 42nd place. It was his worst finish since August 2008 when he finished 42nd at Michigan. He remains 12th in the NASCAR Chase standings.

JG’s comments
“I was underneath Kasey Kahne. We were just racing for position. I saw Clint Bowyer get sideways. I don’t know what caused it. Kasey and I were trying to check up to avoid it. I don’t know if he got loose, or we just both got loose together. Then I just lost control and got in the wall. We’re never going to give up. We got back out there as fast as we could, but the splitter is too torn up on the front. It was really creating lift and the car didn’t have any front downforce so it was pushing really bad.”

Jeff Gordon New Hampshire - 5-Hour Energy 301

Jeff Gordon New Hampshire - 5-Hour Energy 301

Jeff Gordon finished a hard-fought 9th in the 5-Hour Energy 301 in Loudon. Gordon started 23rd, but ran the balance of the event in the top-10. The 9th place finish was his best at Loudon since 2012.

Gordon started 23rd and moved into the top-20 by lap 10. The first caution waved on lap 22 for debris, with Gordon running in 16th place. Pit stops followed with Gordon opting for 2 tires and restarting in 15th place. He passed Denny Hamlin to take 13th on lap 40. One lap later he took 12th from Jimmie Johnson. He tracked down Kasey Kahne to take 11th on lap 51, and entered the top-10 on lap 53 with a move around Jamie McMurray. Gordon remained on the track to lead a lap during a green flag pit stop sequence before coming to pit road on lap 91. A caution for debris on lap 95 slowed the field. Gordon restarted in 12th place on lap 106. He re-entered the top-10 with a move around AJ Allmendinger on lap 110. The next caution waved on lap 116 for debris. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 9th place. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 9th place. On lap 160, he took 8th from Joey Logano.

Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 176. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 187. Gordon came to pit road for 2 tires and restarted in 14th place. He quickly moved up to 11th place prior to a caution for Paul Menard’s spin on lap 199. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 10th with 97 to go. He briefly took 9th before Austin Dillon passed to send him back to 10th with 86 to go. Ryan Newman passed to take a spot with 50 to go. Gordon ran 12th when the caution waved with 49 to go. Pit stops followed with Gordon restarting in 11th place. He entered the top-10 with 43 to go and moved to 9th with a 3-wide move entering turn 1. However, his forward progress stalled and he finished the event in 9th place.

At the front of the field, Kyle Busch claimed his 3rd win in the last 4 races as he makes a summer charge to make the Chase after missing nearly half of the season.

JG’s comments
“Honestly, that’s the kind of effort that this team has been putting in a lot lately. We haven’t been coming to the track in the position that we really feel like we could be, like we were last year. We’ve got some catch-up to do there; but my gosh, one thing we’re not lacking is determination and just the ability to overcome adversity. I’m really proud of that. The car was actually pretty good. When they dropped the green, we were good for about the first half of the race. But the second half of the race, we just couldn’t keep up with the track conditions. I’m not sure exactly what went on, but we were just kind of holding on there at the end. But it was still a nice top 10.”

Jeff+Gordon+NASCAR+Sprint+Cup+Series+Quaker+2015 (1)

Jeff Gordon will conclude his NASCAR career with victories on 24 different tracks. The one track missing from his trophy collection is Kentucky Speedway. Gordon posted a 7th place finish in the Quaker State 400 — it was his fifth straight top-10 at Kentucky in 5 races there. At the front of the field, Kyle Busch claimed his second victory in the last 3 races as he continues his remarkable comeback from an early-season broken leg and foot.

Gordon started 3rd and moved to the runner-up spot within one lap. The first caution waved on lap 18 for a crash involving Josh Wise. On the restart, Gordon dropped to 5th. He regrouped to take 4th from Kyle Larson on lap 25. The lead lap cars came to pit road after a competition caution on lap 30. Gordon exited pit road in 5th place after taking 2 tires. He slipped back on the restart and ran 9th on lap 40. Gordon continued battling handling issues and ran 12th on lap 50. He held the spot until a debris caution brought the leaders to pit road on lap 81. Gordon restarted in 11th place on lap 85. He re-entered the top-10 on lap 90, and ran in 9th place on lap 95. He passed Larson to take 8th on lap 98 just prior to a caution for Kurt Busch’s spin. Gordon came to pit road for two tires and restarted in 9th place. He moved to 8th on lap 107 with a move around Larson. Gordon slipped to 9th on lap 120 prior to a caution for JJ Yeley’s wall contact. Pit stops followed with Gordon restarting in 17th place because of pit crew contact with Jamie McMurray’s car. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 13th place.

A debris caution slowed the field on lap 136. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 11th place. He fell to 17th on lap 143 when the caution waved for Jeb Burton’s crash. Gordon came to pit road for 4 tires and restarted in 30th place. He advanced to 25th before the next caution on lap 153. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 9th place where he essentially regained the lost track position from the previous pit stop. He quickly moved to 7th on lap 158 and closed on Jimmie Johnson for a position. He took 6th from Johnson on lap 162. However, Brad Keselowski went by on lap 170 to send Gordon back to 7th. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 186. Pit stops followed and Gordon exited in 9th place. He moved to 7th after the restart on lap 192. Keselowski sent him back to 8th on lap 204. The next caution waved on lap 207 for Danica Patrick’s spin. Gordon exited pit road in 12th place. With four tires, he took spots from drivers on two tires and moved to 8th with 52 laps to go. He took 7th from Trevor Bayne with 50 to go prior to a caution for Kyle Larson’s wall contact. With 40 to go, Gordon moved to 6th after taking spots from Keselowski and Kevin Harvick. Gordon held the spot until Keselowski passed with 7 to go.

JG’s comments
“As usual in Kentucky it is never easy. The team did a really good job. We had to fight through a few handling issues and some restarts and pit road and a bunch of things, but there at the end everything kind of came together. We got the car working really well, got a couple of good restarts and a good pit stop. It was a solid evening. It wasn’t a winning evening, but I’m still real proud of the effort.”

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE CHANGES IN THE PACKAGE?
“It’s hard to gauge at this place. It is such a challenging racetrack already. Basically the cars just drove really bad right from the beginning and just always drove bad around all the cars. It didn’t change a whole lot when you are around other cars. I don’t know. I think we have to give it a try somewhere… we’ve got to get the right tires on it. This is not the right tire. It is still way too hard. It doesn’t have near enough grip at the beginning of a run. It doesn’t really fall off. The only way you can make a low downforce package work is to have the proper tire on there. I’m glad we tried it, did a little more work, I’m looking forward to trying it again. I’m looking forward to trying what we are going to have at Indy too.”

Jeff+Gordon+NASCAR+Sprint+Cup+Series+Coke+Zero+400+2015 (1)

Jeff Gordon finished 6th in his final race at the famed Daytona International Speedway, although the results were overshadowed by a massive crash on the final lap that saw Austin Dillon’s car launched into the catchfence at the start/finish line. At the front of the field, Dale Earnhardt Jr scored the victory. After nearly a 4-hour delay for rain, the Coke Zero 400 took the green flag just before midnight. Gordon started 23rd and quickly moved into the top-20 by using the middle line. He moved low and entered the top-10 by lap 3. The first caution waved on lap 4 for a wreck triggered by David Gilliland’s spin coming off turn 4. The chain reaction in the pack collected Joey Logano, Bobby Labonte, Greg Biffle, Sam Hornish, and Danica Patrick. Gordon restarted 8th on lap 8. He locked into a tight draft with Jimmie Johnson and entered the top-5 on lap 11. He ran 4th when the competition caution came on lap 25. Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting in 4th place after a two-tire change. On the restart, Gordon was caught on the outside line and dropped out of the top-10. He regrouped from 19th place on lap 31 and used the draft to run 11th by lap 35. Gordon worked his way back into the top-10 by lap 40. He ran in 6th place when the caution waved on lap 53 for Carl Edwards’ spin. Gordon held 6th through the round of pit stops. He moved to 5th on the restart prior to the next caution for David Gilliland’s cut tire. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 9th place.

A caution on lap 85 for an incident involving Kyle Larson, Carl Edwards, and Brian Scott. Gordon restarted in 4th place after a two-tire pit stop. After running as high as 3rd, Gordon dropped to 10th in the middle line on lap 100. Gordon narrowly evaded a major wreck on lap 106 which was triggered by Kasey Kahne and Matt Kenseth. The melee eliminated 10 drivers from contention, including Kahne, Kenseth, Brad Keselowski, Aric Almirola, Kyle Larson, and Martin Truex. Gordon came to pit road for two tires and restarted in 4th place. With 41 to go, Gordon was caught in the middle and dropped to 7th. He regrouped by moving to the low line behind Denny Hamlin. The next caution came on lap 127 for Danica Patrick’s cut tire. Gordon restarted 11th with 28 laps to go. He took a spot from Jimmie Johnson and ran 8th with 25 to go. However, with 23 to go, Gordon was shuffled to the middle line and dropped to 10th. Gordon pulled behind Johnson to re-enter the top-10 on the low line. He moved up to 3rd place behind Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jimmie Johnson with 10 to go. Two laps later, David Ragan spun on the backstretch to bring out the caution. Gordon restarted 4th with 9 laps to go. However, he was caught in the middle line and dropped to 7th. With 6 to go, Sam Hornish spun on the backstretch to bring out the caution and set up a green/white/checkered finish. Gordon pushed Kevin Harvick on the final lap, and was collected in the melee after coming across the line in 6th place.

JG’s comments
“It was crazy. I’m so glad Austin Dillon’s OK. That was a violent wreck. I hope the fans are OK as well. That was a crazy one. Right from the start I thought it was a wild race with a lot of action and crazy stuff going on. Our car was excellent. It was so good. A couple moves here and there, it’s so hard to predict these races and what line to be in. One time they came up the middle. I thought that was the place to be. Trevor Bayne got to the outside of me and that lane was going. That’s all it takes is that split second decision and one move to go your way or not go your way. We got shuffled back, but we were making good ground behind Kevin Harvick. We were pushing like crazy just wide open. It’s like a video game out there these days, except it’s real life. It’s crazy. I love Daytona. This place has been amazing for me. I can’t believe it’s my final race here. But after going through that experience, I’m glad I just have one more restrictor plate race left.

ON DALE JR:
“I think all the Hendrick cars were strong enough to win, but Dale is so good at picking the lanes, controlling the race, and he’s got a fast race car as well. He does an excellent job. Congrats to those guys.”

Jeff+Gordon+Sonoma+Raceway+Toyota+Save+Mart+350+2015 (1)

After qualifying in the top-5, Jeff Gordon entered the Save Mart 350 with high hopes of scoring his first win of the season. However, after battling handling issues, Gordon finished 16th. It was just his third finish below 9th place in the last 21 races at Sonoma. The finish snapped his streak of 9 consecutive top-10’s at Sonoma.

Gordon started 5th and took 4th from Matt Kenseth on lap 4. He took 3rd from Kyle Larson on lap 8 but was unable to close on Kurt Busch and AJ Allmendinger at the front of the field. The first caution waved on lap 22 for David Gilliland’s crash. Gordon followed the leaders to pit road and restarted in 11th place after several drivers stayed out. He slipped to 12th prior to the next caution on lap 28 for Martin Truex’s crash. He moved up to 10th when two drivers came to pit road. On the restart he took 9th from Kyle Larson and moved to 8th on lap 34 with a move around Brad Keselowski. Gordon took 7th from Justin Allgaier on lap 35 and advanced to 6th by passing Jamie McMurray. He re-entered the top-5 by passing Ryan Newman on lap 40. However, after battling handling issues, he fell to 7th on lap 45 when Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. went by. His struggles continued as Kyle Larson and Kasey Kahne passed on lap 50. After David Ragan took a position, Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 51. When the cycle of stops was completed, Gordon ran in 11th place.

The third caution waved on lap 74 for JJ Yeley’s crash. Gordon came to pit road for adjustments as spring rubbers were pulled out of the right rear. Gordon restarted at the rear of the field because of a pit crew penalty for throwing equipment. He advanced to 25th when David Ragan and Carl Edwards wrecked on lap 78. Gordon worked his way back into the top-20 with 16 laps to go. He ran 18th when the caution waved with 12 laps to go for Casey Mears’ broken axle. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 3rd place behind Jimmie Johnson and Jamie McMurray with 8 laps to go. On the restart, Gordon held 3rd until Kyle Busch took a spot in turn 11. Clint Bowyer took a spot from Gordon with 5 laps to go. Kurt Busch dropped Gordon to 6th. One lap later he fell to 8th when Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano went by. With 3 laps to go, he fell out of the top-10 when Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman passed. Gordon faded to 13th with 2 to go, and finished the event in 16th place.

JG’s comments
“We had to make some big adjustments and lose track position, but the car was really good there at the end. “It was a great weekend. Nothing’s going to take away from this weekend for me. I know it wasn’t the finish we all wanted, but it was fun to hang out with some of my friends. I hate that we weren’t a little bit better. The (ending), that was just taking some risks on the last pit stop. We didn’t have anything to lose.”
