Brad Keselowski passed Kurt Busch heading into turn 1 of the final lap to win the Auto Club 400. Busch, who led the most laps, finished third after Kevin Harvick passed him coming to the finish line. Jeff Gordon battled handling issues for the balance of the day before a late race gamble gave him a chance to salvage a solid finish on a green/white/checkered restart. However, a caution necessitated a second restart which hurt his chances on older tires. Gordon’s second consecutive top-10 finish moved him up to 22nd in the series points standings.

Gordon started 7th and dropped to 10th within three laps. As the tire pressures came up, Gordon advanced to 8th by lap 10. The first caution waved on lap 22 when Gordon pulled up behind David Ragan in turn 3, which sent the #18 car into a spin. Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting in 7th place. He battled handling during the run and fell to 11th on lap 35. Gordon stayed out to lead a lap during a green flag pit stop sequence before coming to pit road on lap 63. He cycled through in 14th place on lap 65, and advanced to 12th by lap 70. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 86 with Gordon in 13th place. Pit stops ensued with Gordon exiting in 17th place. He moved to 13th prior to a caution on lap 98 for Sam Hornish’s wall contact. Gordon came to pit road for tires and adjustments, and restarted in 21st place.

Gordon got a strong restart and advanced to 16th on lap 110. One lap later he took 15th from Carl Edwards. His forward advancement continued as he took 12th from Tony Stewart on lap 120. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 138 and cycled through in 12th place. A debris caution on lap 152 brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon restarted in 12th with 42 laps to go, and moved into the top-10 with 39 to go. However, he hit a proverbial wall and fell to 12th with 36 to go as Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman went by. With 25 to go, he dropped to 14th after Joey Logano passed. A debris caution with 15 to go brought pit stops. Gordon restarted in 12th with 11 laps to go. Gordon got a strong restart and moved into the top-10 within a lap. With 9 to go, he took 8th place. However, Kasey Kahne passed with 4 to go to send Gordon to 9th place. He dropped to 10th prior to a debris caution with 2 laps to go, which set up a green/white/checkered finish. Gordon opted to stay out and restarted with the race lead.

On the restart, Gordon dropped to 3rd as Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch went by. Debris on the backstretch brought a caution flag to set up another green/white/checkered restart. Gordon slipped back on the inside line and crossed the finish in 10th position.

It wasn’t a victory, but a hard-fought 9th place effort for Jeff Gordon in the Camping World 500k at Phoenix International Raceway was his first top-10 finish of the season and moved him into the top-25 in the series points standings. Gordon struggled with handling at times during the event, but moved as high as 3rd place in the late stages. However, with 22 laps to go, Gordon pitted under caution for two tires. Most of the leaders stayed out and Gordon restarted in 11th place. He could only gain a couple of spots prior to the finish. At the front of the field, Kevin Harvick dominated once again en route to his second consecutive victory and the 30th win of his career.

Gordon started 10th and dropped to 12th by lap 20. He re-entered the top-10 with a move around Austin Dillon on lap 23. He gained one spot over the next 30 laps and ran in 9th place on lap 50. A debris caution on lap 67 brought the field to pit road. Gordon’s crew changed four tires and held 9th place. However, he dropped to 12th on the inside line before working his way back into the top-10 on lap 95. Sam Hornish’s cut tire and spin on lap 117 brought out the caution flag. Pit stops followed with Gordon taking four tires and restarting in 14th place. He moved to 12th by lap 130 and re-entered the top-10 on lap 141 with a move around Kyle Larson.

Gordon took advantage of the four tires by passing Kasey Kahne and Matt Kenseth to take 8th place on lap 155. He ran down Joey Logano to take 7th place on lap 176. A caution for Dale Earnhardt Jr’s wreck slowed the field on lap 181. Gordon gained a spot on pit road and restarted in 6th. He quickly moved to 5th on the restart and took 4th from Ryan Newman on lap 198. However, Kurt Busch took a spot from Gordon prior to a debris caution on lap 200. On the restart, Gordon dropped to 6th when Jamie McMurray went by. A debris caution on lap 226 slowed the field and brought pit stops. Gordon took 2 tires and exited in 3rd place. He dropped to 4th prior to a caution on lap 235 for Tony Stewart’s spin. Gordon took 3rd from Logano on the restart.

With 23 laps to go, Tony Stewart’s cut tire brought out the caution. Gordon came to pit road for a 2-tire change and restarted in 11th place with 18 to go. Danica Patrick’s spin brought the caution with 16 to go. The restart came with 13 laps to go. Gordon gained two spots prior to the end to finish 9th — his best finish of the 2015 season.

Jeff+Gordon+Kobalt+400+2015 (3)
Jeff Gordon’s day at Las Vegas changed after the halfway point of the Kobalt 400. After working his way from the rear of the field into the top-10, Gordon made contact during a chain reaction incident and damaged the 3M Chevrolet. Gordon finished a lap down in 18th place, the first time he failed to post a top-15 finish in the first 3 races of a NASCAR season. He sits 30th in the series points standings.

Gordon captured the pole position for the event, but started in the rear of the field after damaging his primary car in a practice incident on Saturday. He made quick work of some of the backmarkers and ran 30th by the end of lap 10. He entered the top-25 on lap 16 with a move around Brian Vickers. Gordon advanced to 21st when the competition caution slowed the field on lap 25. Pit stops followed with Gordon taking 4 tires and restarting in 25th place. His forward march continued as he entered the top-20 on lap 38. However, he complained of a lack of rear grip and moved to 17th by lap 60. Gordon ran 16th when he came in for a green flag pit stop on lap 77. He cycled through in 18th place. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 81. Gordon opted to stay out and restarted in 14th place on lap 85. At the 100-lap mark, Gordon ran in 12th place. He moved to 11th prior to a green flag pit stop on lap 130.

At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 11th place. A caution flag on lap 140 brought Gordon to pit road for a 2-tire change, which moved him into the top-10 for the first time. Gordon restarted in 9th, but dropped out of the top-10 after getting held on the inside line by Paul Menard. He recovered to move to 11th by lap 12, and took 10th from Jamie McMurray on lap 154. Jimmie Johnson’s cut tire and wall contact on lap 172 brought out the caution. Gordon made contact with Jeb Burton who slowed to avoid Johnson entering turn 1. Gordon’s car sustained damage to the front of the car. The crew made repairs on pit road and Gordon restarted in 16th place. However, the damage impeded Gordon’s progress and he slipped to 17th on lap 180 — the last car on the lead lap. Johnson’s second cut tire on lap 185 brought out the caution as Gordon dropped nearly a half lap behind the leaders. He came to pit road and the crew placed a larger patch over the front of the car. Gordon restarted in 18th place with 75 laps to go. A cauton for Carl Edwards and Kasey Kahne’s on-track contact slowed the field with 72 to go,

Gordon once again came to pit road for additional repairs and restarted in 16th place. With 55 laps to go, Gordon dropped a half lap behind as he struggled with handling because of the damage. He stayed on the track longer than others during a green flag pit sequuence hoping to catch a caution, but eventually came to pit road with 11 laps to go. Gordon cycled through in 18th place, one lap down where he finished the event.

JG’s comments
“Jimmie blew a right front tire. I was right behind Jeb (Burton) getting ready to make a move on him. I wasn’t sure if I was going to go inside or outside. All of a sudden he started checking up. I thought he was doing it to let me go by him. I didn’t realize until right at that moment when my spotter said something that Jimmie was having a problem, and then I ran in the back of him. It ruined the front. It ruined our day. The car just wouldn’t go down the straightaway, and then was real tight. Man, we were coming. We had one weird set of tires. We drove up there right at the beginning. The car was amazing on rails. The next set of tires the thing was just terrible loose. So, we made an adjustment and then the car went back to being tight. So, I don’t know what happened there. That got us off a little bit. But, great effort. Just can’t believe the way these days are going.”

Jeff+Gordon+Folds+Honor+QuikTrip+500+2015 (1)

For the first time since 1996, Jeff Gordon began a NASCAR season with consecutive finishes below 30th place. In his final race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Gordon was running 10th when he was caught up in a crash on lap 257. He slid toward the inside wall on the backstretch and made contact with a concrete wall. Gordon was credited with a 41st place finish, on the heels of 33rd place last week at Daytona.

Gordon started 35th and gained 10 spots in the first 10 laps of the race. His progress slowed as he moved to 23rd by lap 16. Gordon entered the top-20 on lap 21 and ran 18th when the competition caution waved on lap 25. Pit stops followed with Gordon restarting in 19th place on lap 30. He moved up to 15th within 5 laps of the green flag and ran in 13th when a debris caution slowed the field on lap 46. Pit stops followed and Gordon restarted 12th. He gained a spot and ran 11th when the caution waved on lap 61 for Austin Dillon’s cut tire and subsequent spin. Pit stops ensued with Gordon exiting in 13th place. He entered the top-10 on lap 85 with a move around Ryan Newman, and took 9th from David Ragan one lap later. Landon Cassill’s engine brought out the caution on lap 95. Gordon held the 9th spot through the round of pit stops. On the restart, Gordon used the inside line to his advantage and moved to 8th. He took 7th from Carl Edwards on lap 109, and dispatched of Kasey Kahne on lap 112. However, Jimmie Johnson went by to send Gordon back to 7th on lap 120. He faded back to 8th on lap 124 after Edwards passed. Three laps later, Kahne went by to send Gordon to 9th place. He slipped out of the top-10 on lap 131 prior to a round of green flag pit stops.

Following the cycle of stops, Gordon ran in 13th place. He was up to 11th when a debris caution slowed the field on lap 176. He held the 11th spot through the round of pit stops. On the restart, Gordon dropped to 17th before a debris caution on lap 182. He moved up to 15th, but handling issues prevented him from making headway during the next run. Gordon came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 225, and cycled through in 13th place. He was running 12th when a debris caution slowed the field with 73 to go. Gordon gained 3 spots on pit road and restarted in 10th. On lap 257, Denny Hamlin got loose and lost control coming off turn 2. He clipped Jamie McMurray who slid up the track into Gordon’s path. The #24 car made contact with the backstretch wall, and slid into the retaining wall on the infield.

JG’s comments
“I saw the 11 (Denny Hamlin) get sideways. I had him cleared. I stood in the gas and went by him. But I guess he clipped the 1 (Jamie McMurray), and that turned the 1 back into me. After that I was just along for the ride… sent me down the back straightaway. It wouldn’t have been too bad, but I found that one spot where there’s no SAFER barrier. I can’t believe it. That’s amazing to me. Anyway, hopefully soon that’ll get fixed. It was a pretty big impact. I just hate it for this team. We were struggling. We didn’t have the car I thought we were going to have. But we weren’t giving up on it. We were going to make gains and we finally got ourselves in the top-10. I think we had a shot at getting in the top-5. But obviously not the way we wanted to start our season.”

Daytona 500 In-Car Audio

February 24, 2015 by admin 6822Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2015%2F02%2F24%2Fjeff-gordon-daytona-500-in-car-audio-2015-nascar%2FDaytona+500+In-Car+Audio2015-02-24+19%3A35%3A21adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6822

Jeff Gordon led the most laps in the Daytona 500, but faded in the second half of the event. However, he was on pace for a top-10 finish before contact on the final lap sent the #24 car into a spin and a 33rd place finish. At the front of the field, Joey Logano held off a charge from Kevin Harvick to win the biggest race of his career, Gordon started on the pole and led the opening lap before Jimmie Johnson passed on the high line to take the lead. With drafting help from Dale Earnhardt Jr, Gordon re-assumed the lead on lap 14. He held he lead through a round of caution flag pit stops on lap 19. The next caution came on lap 41 when Tony Stewart made contact with the frontstretch wall. On the restart, Joey Logan took the race lead on the outside line. Gordon rebounded with a push from Earnhardt Jr and a side draft in the corner to take the top spot on lap 52. He led until a round of green flag stops on lap 88, where Gordon’s crew opted for four tires. Following stops, he re-assumed the lead on lap 90. At the halfway point, Gordon was leading ahead of his teammate Kasey Kahne. A debris caution on lap 105 slowed the field.

On the restart, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano drafted past Gordon. He slipped to 7th on lap 115, before dropped to 10th by lap 120. Gordon locked into a draft with Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne to move back up to 5th place on lap 145. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 153. He ran 8th when the caution waved with 40 laps to go for Brad Keselowski’s engine. Gordon came to pit road to top off on fuel. He restarted in 13th place with 35 to go. Gordon locked into a draft with Denny Hamlin in the middle line and moved up to 7th place with 30 to go. A caution for Ryan Blaney’s engine with 25 to go slowed the field. The leaders stayed out to hold track position. Gordon restarted in 7th with 19 laps to go. He locked into a draft with Martin Truex and moved into the top-5 with 15 to go. With 10 to go, Gordon moved to the middle line behind Johnson in 5th place. He slipped to 9th prior to a caution for Justin Allagaier’s crash with 3 laps to go, which set up a green/white/checkered finish. He was running 10th in the middle line on the final lap when Austin Dillon tagged the #24 car coming off turn two. The subsequent spin and contact resulted in a 33rd place finish.

JG’s comments
“For some reason, I’m still smiling and enjoying every moment of it. Obviously I enjoyed the first half a lot more than the second half. What an amazing car we had, out front controlling the race. We had just one restart where I was on the outside and couldn’t get our line going. We got shuffled back and kind of played catch up from that point on. This was an amazing week. I’m just in a different place that’s so foreign to me, but so incredible to be taking it all in and enjoying every moment. Right now, I’m a little bit sad that it’s my final Daytona 500, but I’m more upset we didn’t have a shot at winning there at the end. Congratulations to Joey Logano … that’s what it’s all about. These types of moments in such a big race. It means so much to all of us and you want to share that with the people you’re closest to that have been there along the way. I’m not going to miss those final laps. That was just crazy. But I certainly would have liked to have had a shot to win it.”

November 10, 2014 by admin 6799Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F11%2F10%2Fjeff-gordon-phoenix-quicken-loans-race-for-heroes-500k-in-car-audio-nascar-2014%2FPhoenix+In-Car+Audio2014-11-11+00%3A10%3A07adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6799

In the end, Jeff Gordon missed advancing to the championship race by a single point. Gordon finished 2nd to Kevin Harvick at Phoenix International Raceway. But it was Ryan Newman’s 11th place finish that eliminated Gordon from title contention this season. Harvick, Newman, Denny Hamlin, and Joey Logano advanced to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the championship race on November 16. Gordon started 7th and slipped back to 9th in the opening laps. He battled handling issues before a debris caution slowed the field on lap 30. Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting in 7th place after a two-tire change. Gordon took 6th from Kyle Busch on lap 49, and tracked down Brad Keselowski to take 5th on lap 63. His forward march continued as he took 4th from Matt Kenseth on lap 70. The next caution waved on lap 80 for Casey Mears’ spin on the backstretch. Gordon came to pit road for two tires and restarted in 3rd place. He dropped to 6th on lap 94 after Kenseth and Keselowski went by. Kyle Busch passed on lap 95 prior to a debris caution. Gordon came to pit road for four tires and a wedge adjustment, and restarted in 20th place on lap 100. He entered the top-15 on lap 112 after moving past Kasey Kahne. He ran 14th when a debris caution slowed the field on lap 123. He restarted in 10th place after a two tire change. Gordon ran 8th on lap 135 after passing Paul Menard and Carl Edwards. At the halfway point, Gordon was in 7th place and closing on Kenseth for the 6th spot.

He moved around Kenseth to take 6th on lap 162 and re-entered the top-5 with a move around Kyle Busch two laps later. He passed Keselowski for 4th on lap 172 as he tried to pad his cushion to the Chase cutoff. A caution for Austin Dillon’s cut tire on lap 183 brought pit stops. Gordon lost 2 spots on pit road and restarted in 6th place. He passed Truex for 5th prior to a debris caution on lap 200. Gordon dropped to 8th on the restart before Josh Wise’s crash brought a caution on lap 206. On the restart, Kyle Busch got loose and collected Clint Bowyer and Cole Whitt to bring out a caution. Gordon restarted in 7th place on lap 220. He re-entered the top-5 after passing Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch. With 78 to go, Jimmie Johnson slammed the wall to bring out a caution. Gordon took 2 tires and restarted on the inside of the front row along side race leader Kevin Harvick. Jamie McMurray’s spin one lap after the restart brought out a caution. Gordon once again restarted inside of Harvick. He dropped more than 5 seconds behind Harvick, but held 2nd place until a debris caution with 25 laps to go.

Gordon stayed on the track and once again restarted inside of Harvick with 21 to go. Landon Cassill’s spin with 16 to go slowed the field with Gordon holding 2nd place. On the restart with 12 to go, Gordon held the 2nd spot where he finished the race.

Turning point
A late two-tire change propelled Gordon up to 2nd place.

JG’s comments
“It’s disappointing. We have a lot to hold our heads up high about the way we raced this race and the whole Chase and the whole season. We raced hard and we raced together as a team. But I hope we taught somebody that you can race clean and still go out there and give it your best, and that you don’t have to wreck people to make it in the Chase or win the championship. I’m afraid if it was that ugly these last couple of weeks, it’s going to get really ugly next week. But I couldn’t be more proud of this team. This makes last week hurt that much more. We did everything we could at Martinsville. We did everything we could here and 2nd just wasn’t good enough. Kevin Harvick was in another zip code. There was nobody who was going to get him today. We did a great job finishing 2nd. I’m not happy about it, but at the same time I’m really proud of what we’ve done this year. We’ll go try to win Homestead and end this season on a positive note.”

Jeff Gordon seemed to be on his way to a victory at Texas Motor Speedway as the laps wound down. A late caution set up a green/white/checkered restart and created chaos in the NASCAR points standings. Gordon battled Jimmie Johnson for the race lead heading into turn 1. Following contact from Brad Keselowski who attempted to split the Hendrick Motorsports pair, Gordon cut a left rear tire and spun in turn 3. He finished a lap down in 29th place. Gordon has just a 1-point gap to the Chase cutoff with next weekend’s race in Phoenix the final event prior to the Championship Race on November 16. Gordon started on the outside of the front row and remained in 2nd place for the first 30 laps. However, as the run progressed, Gordon battled handling issues and slipped to 4th. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 41. Gordon came to pit road for tires and exited in 10th place after problems on the right front during the stop. He steadily gained spots and ran 7th on lap 70. Gordon re-entered the top-5 with a move around Ryan Newman on lap 83, and took 4th from Matt Kenseth five laps later. Green flag pit stops came on lap 94 with Gordon cycling through in 5th place. He took 4th from Joey Logano just prior to the 100-lap mark, and moved around Kenseth to take 3rd on lap 105. Gordon passed Kevin Harvick for the runner-up spot on lap 136. He took the race lead during a green flag pit stop sequence on lap 139. He cycled through in 3rd place, but re-assumed 2nd after passing Harvick on lap 153. Gordon closed in on race leader Jimmie Johnson prior to a debris caution on lap 175. Gordon held the 2nd spot through pit stops. The next caution waved on lap 205 for Kyle Busch’s tire, with Gordon in 2nd behind Johnson. Gordon exited pit road in 3rd place behind Johnson and Kenseth.

On the restart, Gordon quickly moved around Kenseth to run 2nd behind Johnson. He took the race lead from Johnson on lap 217 prior to a debris caution on lap 223. Gordon restarted in 2nd place after Denny Hamlin opted for 2 tires. He immediately jumped back into the lead heading into turn 1 on the restart. He pulled out to more than a 1-second lead on Johnson before a debris caution on lap 241. Johnson was able to beat Gordon off pit road to take the lead. On the outside line, Gordon fell to 4th after the restart. He regrouped to take 3rd from Kenseth on lap 252 before another debris caution. Gordon restarted 2nd after Brad Keselowski stayed on the track. He tracked down Keselowski and took the race lead with 59 to go. A debris caution brought pit stops with 48 laps to go. Gordon exited pit road in 3rd place behind Johnson and Harvick. A caution for debris with 38 to go brought Gordon to pit road for tires. He restarted in 11th place after several drivers stayed out.

On the restart with 31 to go, Gordon moved to 10th before the next caution for Joey Logano’s flat tire. With 25 to go, Gordon moved up to 6th place and set his sights on the top-5. He took 5th from Kenseth with 23 to go prior to Kasey Kahne’s spin to bring out the caution. Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 3rd with 17 laps to go. He jumped to 2nd behind Johnson with 16 to go. Kahne wrecked with 14 to go on the backstretch. Gordon lined up on the outside of Johnson for the restart with 9 laps to go. He passed Johnson on the outside coming off turn 2 for the race lead. With 4 laps to go, Clint Bowyer hit the wall to bring out the caution. Gordon chose the outside line for the green/white/checkered restart. Keselowski made contact with Gordon after the restart, which resulted in a cut tire for the #24 car. Gordon spun in turn 3 to bring out the caution. He finished a lap down in 29th place.

Following the race, Gordon exited his car next to Keselowski. He tried to grab Keselowski by his driving uniform, which created a brawl among the pit crews for the #2 and #24 teams.

Turning point Brad Keselowski makes it 3-wide in turn 1 on a green/white/checkered restart. Contact ensued and emotions boiled over.

JG’s comments “We were sitting there on a little bit older tires. I spun the tires a little, but I got a pretty decent restart. We went down into turn 1 and I just wanted to get to the outside of [Jimmie Johnson]. Out of nowhere I just got slammed by [Brad Keselowski]. It cut my left rear tire. He’s just a dipshit. The way he races, I don’t know how he’s ever won a championship. I’m just sick and tired. That’s why everyone is fighting him and running him down. Your emotions are high. That was a huge race for us. We had the car, we had the position. I’m so proud of my team. And I’m proud of Jimmie Johnson for winning that race and not letting that… you know what… win that race.

ON KESELOWSKI: “There wasn’t a conversation. You can’t have a conversation with him. He beats his own drum and gets himself in this position and he’s got to pay the consequences. I’m going to race him the same way he races me. That kind of stuff is just uncalled for and I’m not going to stand for it. To them, I’m sure it’s just a racing incident. But to me, it’s a bunch of crap. The kid is just doing stuff way over his head. To me, that’s just uncalled for. You’re racing for a win and a championship. You don’t go slam somebody and cut their left rear tire. If that’s what it takes, no problem. I can do the same thing back to him.”

WHAT WAS IT THAT UPSET YOU SO MUCH? “We drove down into Turn 1 and he just decided to body slam us and cut our left-rear tire. It ruined our night. It ruined our chances, ruined our night, might of even ruined our Chase hopes. It’s just uncalled for. I had to show my displeasure. It got ugly down there, obviously, and you know that is alright. A lot of things are going to happen in the next couple of weeks.”

IS THIS EMOTION THAT WE ARE SEEING FROM A LOT OF YOU GUYS A RESULT OF THIS NEW CHASE FORMAT? “It’s emotion that is a part of this Chase and this format as well as towards people that make dumb decisions. He has been making a lot of them lately. That is why people have been running after him and chasing him down. It’s why his team has got to defend him over there because of what he does on the race track.”

WHAT HAPPENED AT END OF RACE? “He cut my left rear tire. I went over there to talk to him.”

YOU WEREN’T GOING TO BE DENIED TALKING TO HIM, DID YOU WANT TO SEND A MESSAGE TO HIM? “I wanted to do a lot more than that.”

TALK ABOUT CHALLENGES HEADING TO PHOENIX: “We are just going to take this fire that’s inside of us and this momentum. We are going to take it to Phoenix and win that race.”

Jeff Gordon posted a strong 2nd place effort at Martinsville Speedway to begin the Eliminator Round of the Chase, but felt a mistake cost him the prospect of finishing one spot higher. Gordon had the race lead in the mid-stages when a pit road speeding penalty sent him back to 30th place. He recovered to post his 3rd top-3 finish in the last 4 races at Martinsville. Gordon leads the NASCAR standings by 3 points. Gordon started 13th and gained a spot before the first caution waved on lap 4. He took 11th from Ryan Newman on lap 12 and entered the top-10 with a pass on Carl Edwards on lap 14. The second caution came on lap 16. Gordon advanced to 7th by lap 25 after passing Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch. He entered the top-5 on lap 36 with moves around Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart. His forward advancement continued as he took 3rd from Matt Kenseth on lap 44. Two laps later he moved into the runner-up spot by passing Denny Hamlin. A caution on lap 75 brought the first round of pit stops. He restarted 2nd and took the race lead from Jamie McMurray on lap 85. Gordon led through the next caution on lap 160 when Kasey Kahne lost patience with Brian Vickers. Pit stops ensued with Gordon exiting pit road with the lead. The next caution came on lap 188 and pit stops followed. Gordon easily held the lead through the round of stops, but was penalized for speeding on pit road. He restarted in 30th place on lap 205. A quick caution allowed Gordon to move up to 24th place on lap 215. He re-entered the top-20 on lap 222 after Vickers exacted revenge on Kahne for the earlier incident by spinning the #5 car into the wall.

Gordon stayed on the track and restarted in 14th place on lap 227. After Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick made contact to bring out a caution, Gordon moved to 10th place. At the halfway point, Gordon ran in 9th place. A debris caution on lap 255 brought the leaders to pit road. Several drivers stayed on the track and Gordon restarted in 13th. He bided his time after the restart and re-entered the top-10 on lap 270. He ran in 7th place when the third act of the Vickers/Kahne trilogy brought out the caution on lap 277. Gordon came to pit road and restarted in 13th place due to some drivers staying out. He quickly moved back into the top-10 on fresher tires and ran 7th on lap 290. Gordon then passed Kyle Busch and Aric Almirola to move back into the top-5 on lap 293. A caution for Danica Patrick’s spin on lap 296 brought some drivers to pit road. Gordon stayed out and restarted in 2nd place along side Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The outside line hindered Gordon on the restart and he dropped to 3rd on lap 305 behind Earnhardt Jr and Kurt Busch. He took the runner-up spot from Earnhardt Jr on lap 319 and closed in on Busch for the race lead. He worked his way around Busch to take the lead on lap 335. Denny Hamlin closed in on Gordon and took the lead on lap 359. A caution for Reed Sorenson’s wall contact on lap 387 brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon held 2nd through the round of stops. He slipped to 3rd on the restart after Tony Stewart went by. Gordon regrouped and took 2nd from Stewart on lap 401. He closed within a car length of Hamlin prior to a debris caution on lap 417. Pit stops followed with Gordon exiting in 3rd place behind Clint Bowyer and Earnhardt Jr. He was able to move ahead of Hamlin and had the inside line for the restart. On the restart on lap 433, Gordon used the inside line to take 2nd from Earnnhardt Jr. A caution for a multi-car crash triggered by Brad Keselowski’s transmission failure red-flagged the race with 64 laps to go. The melee collected Casey Mears, Kasey Kahne, Danica Patrick, and Martin Truex. After nearly a half hour delay, the race resumed with a restart with 58 to go. Gordon fell back on the outside line and ran 5th with 55 to go.

Gordon took 4th from Hamlin with 51 to go, and passed Joey Logano for 3rd with 45 to go. He passed Bowyer for 2nd with 34 to go and closed in on Earnhardt Jr for the victory. A caution with 11 laps to go for a crash involving Marcos Ambrose and Kyle Larson slowed the field. Gordon came to pit road for tires and restarted in 7th place. On the restart with 5 to go, he quickly moved to 3rd. He took 2nd from Tony Stewart with 3 to go. GOrdon closed in on Earnhardt Jr on the white flag lap, but couldn’t catch his Hendrick Motorsports teammate for the win.

Turning point
Gordon played from behind in the second half of the race after a pit road speeding penalty. However, the outside line on a late race restart ultimately proved to be his downfall.

JG’s comments
“A 1-2 finish [for Hendrick Motorsports]. We know how much the fans love to see Dale Earnhardt Jr. win. They certainly got that today. He did a great job, but for all of those at Hendrick Motorsports that lost friends and family members, people that paid an important in Hendrick Motorsports and in this sport. A 1-2 finish is the best way you can pay tribute to them. It was great effort today. I’m proud of the guys. We got behind. I made a big mistake on pit road and was speeding. I knew it. We had to go to the back and claw our way back up in there, so that was a great comeback and a total team effort by everybody.”

WE KNOW A WIN MOVES YOU ON, BUT YOU SAID YOU NEEDED TO COME OUT OF HERE WITH A GOOD POINTS DAY
“The good news is that a Chase driver did not win the race today. Finishing second isn’t as big of a deal today, it’s actually really a good finish and good points day compared to if a Chase driver would have won. I wanted to get that win to get ourselves locked in, but we have two more great tracks coming up and yeah, today was a great overall effort by the whole team.”

HOW DO YOU LOOK AT TODAY?
“It was a great performance and a really good finish. I about threw this one away on pit road. I made a mistake there and was speeding. So that’s a great comeback. I thought we had the car to beat. There at the end we were kind of stuck on the outside on one of those restarts and those guys got out there on us. At that point it was just about clawing our way back up there and me and Denny (Hamlin) were having a great battle and then late pit stops and those last couple of laps were just wild. Congratulations to (race winner) Dale (Earnhardt) Jr. That’s the best way you can possibly pay tribute to those we lost here 10 years ago. To have a 1-2 finish is pretty awesome. I would have love to have gotten that win to move on to Homestead, but this is surely a great start for us. We’ve got two more great tracks coming up. I’m really proud of him and I know that means a lot to him and all his fans here.”

Talladega In-Car Audio

Jeff Gordon headed into the race at Talladega Superspeedway with an 18-point cushion to advance to the Eliminator Round of the NASCAR Chase. After a 26th place finish, Gordon advanced to the next round by a mere 3 points. He was the final driver to transfer to the next round on points, and edged his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne for the final spot.

Gordon started in the rear of the field and ran in a draft behind the lead pack. He moved up to 33rd by lap 25 and came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 41. After a two-tire change, Gordon ran back in 33rd place. The first caution waved on lap 60 when Jamie McMurray spun and collected Joey Logano. At the 100-lap mark, Gordon ran in 33rd place behind the lead draft. Gordon avoided a melee on lap 104 which was triggered by JJ Yeley getting turned on the backstretch. The incident collected Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart, among others. On lap 120, Gordon began moving forward from 32nd up to 26th place. A debris caution slowed the field on lap 130. Gordon pitted for tires and ran toward the rear of the field after the restart.

Kyle Larson spun coming off pit road to bring out the caution with 13 laps to go, which was during a green flag pit sequence. Gordon had not yet come to pit road at the time. Gordon pitted for four tires under caution and restarted in 21st place. On the restart, Gordon moved to the middle line and advanced into the top-20 prior to a debris caution with 4 laps to, which set up a green/white/checkered finish. Gordon skirted through a wreck on the backstretch after the restart. He crossed the line in 26th place and made the Eliminator Round by a mere 3 points over Kasey Kahne who finished 12th. Gordon is the only Hendrick Motorsports driver who is eligible to compete for the championship.

Turning point
A debris caution with 13 to go trapped Gordon on the track, which forced him to restart deep in the field.

Jeff Gordon Post-Race Comments
“I’m just mentally drained right now. It’s always tough racing here at Talladega trying to put yourself in position to win. When you’ve got that much on the line and you know that your championship hopes are right there in that final moment, it’s nerve wracking. I’m proud of this team and the job they did. We had a great strategy. Unfortunately a caution hit us at the absolute worst time. That put us behind. We fought hard. That last restart, the inside lane just didn’t go anywhere. I was just sitting there going backwards and couldn’t do a thing. I’m just glad we made it. I can’t wait for Martinsville, Texas, and Phoenix — they’re all great tracks for us. This team has done some amazing work this year. These next 3 are where we’re really going to shine and show it.”

ON HENDRICK TEAMMATES BEING ELIMINATED
“It’s very difficult. We knew that Jimmie and Dale Jr were in tough positions. But if anybody could win this race, either one of those guys could. Kasey, I knew he was going to race hard all day. He was in and out. I really thought he was going to make it. But I guess (Matt) Kenseth with the late charge there may have been the game changer. It’s difficult. These are 3 guys who could be major factors in the championship. Great teams, great drivers, and friends of mine. I hate to see them not in there. But we’re going to try to make Hendrick proud and go out there and get ourselves to Homestead.”

Charlotte In-Car Audio

October 13, 2014 by admin 6739Leave a Commenthttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F2014%2F10%2F13%2Fjeff-gordon-charlotte-bank-of-america-500-in-car-audio-2014-nascar%2FCharlotte+In-Car+Audio2014-10-13+04%3A51%3A52adminhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.scannerbytes.com%2F%3Fp%3D6739

Jeff Gordon took a step toward the third round of the Chase with a second place effort under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Gordon finished where he started the event behind pole sitter (and race winner) Kevin Harvick. Heading into Talladega, Gordon has an 18 point cushion on the Chase cutoff as the second round concludes in Alabama. Gordon started on the outside of the front row and ran in 2nd behind Kyle Busch for the first 13 laps. He took the race lead from Busch on lap 14 and pulled away until the competition caution on lap 25. He exited pit road after a four tire change in 4th place after two drivers opted for two tires. On the restart, Gordon made quick work of Danica Patrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr and moved to 2nd behind Busch. He re-assumed the top spot by passing Busch on lap 38. Gordon kept the race lead over Kevin Harvick through a round of green flag pit stops on lap 75. The next caution came on lap 95 after Clint Bowyer’s engine expired. Gordon again opted for four tires and restarted in 3rd place. He took 2nd from Jamie McMurray on lap 111, but ran 3 seconds behind Harvick. A caution on lap 135 for Paul Menard’s engine brought the leaders to pit road. Gordon restarted in 2nd along side Harvick on lap 144, but fell to 4th on the inside line. He came to pit road for a green flag stop on lap 190 while battling a tight handling issue.

Following stops, Gordon ran in 5th place behind Harvick, McMurray, Kurt Busch, and Kyle Larson. A caution for Josh Wise’s engine on lap 222 brought the lead lap cars to pit road. He restarted in 5th place, but struggled on the inside and dropped to 9th on lap 228. Brian Vickers’ spin on lap 237 brought the caution. Pit stops ensued with Gordon opting for 2 tires. He restarted in 7th place on lap 242. The next caution came on lap 245 when Joey Logano spun Danica Patrick in turn 4. Gordon again restarted 7th on the inside line. He ran 8th when the next caution waved on lap 266. After pit stops, Gordon restarted 9th on lap 270. He moved to 7th within a lap of the restart, and took 6th from Kyle Busch. He re-entered the top-5 on lap 284 by passing Brad Keselowski. Three laps later he took 4th from Jimmie Johnson. With 39 to go, he passed Kyle Larson to take over 3rd. Gordon then tracked down and passed Denny Hamlin for the runner-up spot with 31 to go.

Gordon’s final green flag stop came with 22 laps to go. He had to deal with traffic coming off the pit lane and dropped 6 seconds behind Harvick for the race lead. Brian Vickers’ engine brought out the caution with 7 laps to go. Gordon lined up next to Harvick for the restart with 3 to go. He was unable to make headway on the inside line and finished the event in 2nd place. It was his first top-3 finish at Charlotte since he claimed the victory in October 2007 — a span of 14 races.

Turning point
Gordon restarted in 9th place on lap 270. The car came to life on the short run, which put Gordon in position to challenge for the victory.

JG’s comments
“I’m really proud of that effort. Kevin got out there on us after that last green flag stop. I didn’t want to see another restart because every time we start on the inside we seemed to lose positions. We were just trying to tune to make it better. We got off a little bit and lost some track position. I had some terrible restarts. At the end, four tires and good adjustments, good restarts, and we were able to get right up in the thick of it. Kevin was tough. I knew when he got out front that he was going to be hard to beat him. This new format has created some serious drama. I’m happy about this 2nd place. It doesn’t make us by any means very comfortable going into next week, but it’s a lot better than it could have been.”

“We had a great start to the race and got up there and took the lead from Kyle. I was pretty happy with my car, but rubber was laying down and track conditions were changing. We were trying to make some adjustments to keep up with it. I thought we made a really good adjustment, were able to keep the lead, and then we kind of lost a little bit of track position. We started on the inside there and just lost some positions and kind of fought it from there, tried to make some adjustments to make it better and it made it a little bit worse. But we stuck with it and finally there at the end we got a little bit out of cycle, some guys on two tires versus four tires. We put four tires on and made a really good adjustment to the car and were able to drive up through there all the way back to second and kind of closing on Kevin but just couldn’t get close enough to him and then that green flag stop, it was kind of disastrous for us from the cars that were pitting and a bunch of other things that went on. We just didn’t have some of the things that we needed to go a little bit better go our way. But really, really strong finish there to come back second, so I’m really proud of that.”

In New Hampshire, you talked a little bit about the danger potentially of having to go into Talladega with all the craziness that can happen there with your fates at hand. I wanted you to elaborate on that, and I wondered how much or how little the potential to have a huge race in Talladega factored into the way you dealt with the race today?
“Yeah, I think everybody was pushing hard and now how much was on the line, not just this weekend but last weekend. A win in this particular round, if you want to call it, nobody wants to deal with Talladega. Everybody would like to take the weekend off there if they could. Two guys in some ways get to, and the rest of us are going to have to go race there. We’ve got a little bit of a cushion but not near enough to be comfortable by any means. We’ll go and race the way we normally do there, which is just try to be smart, try to stay out of the mess and then put ourselves in a good position to get a good finish, hope it works out. But yeah, the format is definitely creating a lot of drama, a lot of intensity, a lot of pressure, and each round seems to intensify that much more. Today’s performance by us was huge and crucial, I think, because we do at least have a much bigger buffer than some other guys do. There’s going to be some guys that really have to win at that race and that have to maybe get a top 5 or make up a lot of points. Certainly these last two weeks have shaken things up quite a bit. I like our chances. I think we’ve got an excellent race team, and I really hope we can make it through Talladega because I think the next round suits us very, very well.

The final caution, did that pump you up thinking, okay, I’ve got another shot at this victory, or was it more pressure, worried that you might lose second place to someone?
“I would have liked it if Kevin decided to give me a shot and start on the inside. That would have got me pumped up. But I lost positions every single restart on the inside. I think I started on the outside once and made positions up and every other one I was on the inside and lost positions. I was thankful to be in that position. I knew our car was really good right then and I just didn’t want to spin the tires, and I knew Jamie was really good on the outside there. He got by me on the outside on a previous restart. I was just hoping that that clean air I had on the nose that the car would stick on the bottom, and it stuck pretty good. I got a good start and was able to fall in behind Kevin. At that point I was just kind of settling for second because my car just wasn’t doing what I needed it to do to make any move on him.”

Is this Chase turning into some bizarre psychological experiment? Seems like people are kind of coming unbolted here as you get down to these rounds.
“I mean, there’s a lot on the line. It’s not an experiment. It’s just the new format, I think we all knew would make the emotions get out of whack by who’s in, who’s out, who’s on the bubble, how your races are going. When you have just these three-race segments and then they clean the slate and start all over, it creates a lot of drama, and I think they knew that going in, and that’s why they did it. It’s going to shake things up from here on out. It’s going to make this championship that much tougher to win. It’s going to make it tough to make it to Homestead, and especially because you’re not just racing the other guys in the Chase, you’re also racing everybody out there, and they’re all racing hard, wanting to win races, as well, wanting to get good finishes for many different reasons. Everybody is pushing extremely hard. You throw in a green-white-checkered restart, and there’s your drama, and there’s already a lot on the line and emotions running high, then you do that, and you have guys on four tires, guys on no tires, it’s going to make things crazy. It’s only going to intensify from here on out.”

I’m just curious what is your team’s mindset heading to Talladega. You’re still not locked into the Chase. Was it a sense of relief for tonight even though you didn’t get the victory?
“My first question when I got out of the car was how many points did we gain or where are we at, 17 up on ninth, I guess. That is not what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear that we were 35 or 38 or something like that up on ninth. But we knew that that was going to be tough to do. We’re going to have to just go race Talladega, which isn’t a bad thing. I don’t like leaving things up to chance, which happens a lot of times at Talladega, but at the same time if it’s meant to be, we go race hard and do what we need to do to try to win that race, and if it’s meant to be for us to move on to the next round, we’ll find out. If our team is good enough, if our cars are good enough, which I think we are, we’ll go through to the next round.”

You’re a guy who doesn’t lose his temper very often. How mad would Matt Kenseth have to be to do that?
“Yeah, he must have been pretty mad. I think Matt is a pretty calm and collected guy. Over the years he and I have had our incidents but that was because I was mad. I don’t think he was mad at me. I can’t remember. I wrecked him one time and I don’t remember him being mad at me that much.”

He wrecked you more than once
